Lenovo Legion Y540 - Watched his RUclips video to swap the power jack myself, no stranger to soldering - but for their price, their experience and an amazing turnaround time, I just boxed it up and could not be happier. Yeah, it's scary to ship your precious motherboard to someone with a RUclips channel - but it was totally worth it.
Hey there! Thank you for this video! I’m just wondering if you have any advice on how to get pins out of the motherboard if they broke off of the charging port as you were removing it! I’ve tried adding more solder and flux and using a copper soldering wick to free it up and loosen the broken pieces, but they have not come out at all. Currently the only thing stopping me from fixing my laptop. Thanks in advance!
What is also a problem is that if the jack breaks it could eventually short out the IT8226E-192 embedded controller. If you replace the jack and you get no power then the controller is faulty.
Thanks for the video I'm doing it by myself because technicians here don't want to do it. Some pieces of the old port did not "detach" I managed to remove 3 pieces but the others are quite stuck on the board.
My laptop charger tip( goes inside of laptop) gets too hot while playing games and stops charging after some time and also the tip fits loose on the laptop. I tried cleaning the port but didnt help.🥺
mine does the same i could use it for normal use like web browsing and it would work fine and charge normally but whenever i start a game it just keeps connecting and disconnecting and the game frame rate drops significantly and its not playable anymore
@@pdx121 Not really i tried changing the cable but because it did had a resistor on the cable tip laptop recognized it as a non original charger and didnt even charge , power jack is the problem but if you fix the jack it could work fine for 1 or 2 years and after that because of how badly it is made it would do the same thing again
Appreciate the informative video on how to change the DC Port of this laptop, and that's a lot of work dang, I was planning to do it my self, but I don't have that soldering thing, I think I am gonna give it to a technician in my country ( Saudi Arabia) and he says he fix it for around 30$

Hello! I have the same proglem on the exact same laptop. The charger port is broken, the laptop is not charging anymore. My question is : do you have any friends or recomandations for such a business in Belgium? I tried a few shops but they won't do anything because as they said "it's a very complicated procedure".. Thank you! Ps : your videos are highly detalied and great! You are awesome!
having a problem with they keyboard, keeps pressing several keys at the time, I think I made the huge mistake of using some kind o foam to clean it, and it all went down and messed it up... I was able open the first part, but the rest looks like gibbrish to me, I'm gonna have to dive in and unscrew every single thing there is... and repaste every chip
This guy must hate the Chinese. Chances are, most of the tools and supplies he uses in his shop is made in China. LOL. And he talks way too much that is off topic. He should just focus on creating a good instructional video.

cuanto de temperatura utilizaste en el cautin y la pistola de calor
Why are you not using desoldering pump? Is there any advantage for desoldering wick here?
So u need to completely remove the port from the motherboard? I was thinking it's just removing a few ports and screws
Unfortunately not with this model, needs to be desoldered. Bad design in general by Lenovo, they improved the jack for later models though.
Is DC power jack same for all legion y540 models(15IRH and 17IRH)?
It should be the same and it looks identical to the e470 jack.
Hi Kumar, , is your laptop also got same issue?? Bcoz mine also same ... How did u deal with it??

Desoldering is pretty hard to learn.

Planned obsolescence is real with Lenovo and Apple.
Or any manufacturer for that matter.
