He's not flashy, nor super-naturally gifted. You could say he's "unremarkable". Just routined, hardworking, and that hard work bears fruit. He's basically an archetype for a stable and balanced human being, which is probably the most relatable character to anyone. Honestly, when it comes to volleyball Kita pales in comparison to other characters in Haikyuu. However, as an archetype character for how to live your life he's probably the best of them all. I read the manga, and Kita's profession after Highschool is also very down-to-earth. It fits him.
Kita's message is a strong one for sure. Essentially, results aren't his driving force. He favours diligence and perseverance. If you're disciplined and thorough, the results will follow no matter what your goal is.
I tought that even more so the number 1, captains have a littel bar under their number. If I am not wrong Bokuto is the captain and he is the number 4.
@@Virgil_Hawkins Bokuto is just one example though. Futakuchi has #2 instead, I think Kakugawa's setter is the captain and it's a #5 iirc, etc. It's mostly #1 but Bokuto is def no the only exception
As someone similar, Kita very much reads as someone who is on the spectrum to me. His matter-of-fact way of communicating and objective opinions that don't tend to take emotional factors into account as well as his natural comfort with routine all give me that impression.
To me, Kita just seems like an extremely stoic (philosophy) person, pursuing excellence in everything he does (virtue). Despite not being over-enthusiastic like Hinata, Kita IS great at reading and dealing with people, on top of everything else, which seems to be a recurring problem with people with 'tism. Both Kageyama and Ushijima seem to fit that category more, at least for me. Both are blunt to the point of being rude (even though it's not their intention; Kageyama doesn't realize he's rude unless he's told), both are obsessive to the point of alienating most people around them and both can go from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds (Kageyama when someone insults the setter position and Ushijima when unskilled people run their mouths). Plus some weird quirks, like Ushijima intently reading ads in a Shonen Jump instead of actual manga, lol. Tendo and Sakusa would be my next picks (as Sakusa feels like a more extreme version of Kita, routine to the point of being OCD, plus his germophobia and also somewhat blunt nature).
To me, it can't be a coincidence that this anime has so many spot on depictions of people with neurodivergency. For instance, I have ADHD and I'm positive that Shoyo has too (maybe Bokuto too, with all those executive meltdowns). There's introversion (Kenma, Shizuku, Aone?), anxiety disorders (like Hitoka), OCD (Kiyoomi) and several others that seem to be on different points of the spectrum (like Kageyama, Shinsuke and Uchijima). And I dont know if these are a stretch, but Mad Dog seems to have some type of ODD and maybe Kenma has endogenous depression? Finally, some characters have remarkably quirky personalities that are usually in line with neurodivergency, like Tendo or Fukunaga. The thing is, none of those are explicitly said, yet people who have/know neurodivergency can easily recognize the traits through the characters' personalities. And the best thing is that their mental conditions/disorders are rarely relevant to their wins/losses. They're just... people. That's why, to me, Haikyuu has some of the most realistically human characters of any media. (BTW, if anyone here spotted other examples, please share 🙏🏽)
Also, I was very moved by your comments on Kita at the end. I know I'm just 1 of 392383 users, but if you need help talking about or understanding you mental health, let me help you. I'm managing to recover from depression and I've been helping other people to do it too. Just let me know 💪🏽
i still remember how i was reading manga and was blown away by how furudate managed to make me fall in love with shinsuke with one single chapter. a couple of frames and there, still one of my favorite character in any media. INSANE.
when i saw you tweet about kita a bit ago, i was SO excited to see your reaction to this episode. he is such a beloved character and truly appreciated and loved by all, and his message/mentality is just so so important and hits close to home. best boy forever!
Inappreciate the couple in the audience so much for explaining the strategies and details of certain plays. Especially for us non-volleyball players, it adds a lot more depth to the game without it feeling forced. We’re basically in the girlfriend’s position of learning the game lol.
I don’t know why you would hide tears , especially when watching haikyuu…. People watch for your reactions , showing emotion is what we’re here for 😊 .
@@joshnoble07 this is a match against a powerhouse school (in black) in a national level competition, and this is the introduction of the opposing team's captain.
kita became my fav character with just this episode LMFAO😭
LITERALLY ME WHEN I WATCHED THIS EP
tbf hes easy top 3
Only 1 episode and it has the audience fawning over him
my fav had been yamaguchi and no one else for YEARS until this ep and kita shot up to my no.2

Everyone loves shinsuke 😂 easily top 3 of my favorite players that aren’t on karasuno.
the no. 1 jersey is usually given to captains which was why it was more emotional for Kita.
Didnt know/figure that out, thanks for the input.

@@edugaray143 yeah you’re right, but it’s usually the number 1’s. Bokuto just wanted the number of an ace
