Have you been watching This Is Opera! by any chance? Sounds like the kind of thing he would say. I think you make a valid point, but I like that she makes no pretence of being a voice technique teacher but gives tips on interpretation, which is an important dimension too in my opinion. The singer is probably working on her technique with someone else and this is tackling a different aspect :)
