- The first in the World Radio-Optical Telescope ROT-54/2.6 was built on Mount Aragats (Armenia) at an altitude of 1700m.
The observatory, sometimes called the Herouni Mirror Radio Telescope, was designed by Paris Herouni and approved by Sergei Korolev of the USSR's space programme.
You could be forgiven for thinking it was some kind of military radar complex until seeing all the astronomical terminology on the dials. There are 3 anteni on the territory, and a few mobile auxiliary stations. I translated some of the Russian text and soviet documents into English. One of my favourite explores with ideal winter weather.

Marvellous, that USSR was existed only less than 100 years, but leaved such a big marks on Earth and now we can see soo many Huge Abandoned Soviet buildings..
Thanks
Such a beauty!! abandoned titans, glass and mirrors, such unusual dazzling day and this sun flooding the control room. Like in Tarkovsky's films or old Soviet cartoons about space travel!! and Ararat! Awesome 🔥☀️
Time traveling, amazing.
Man, that's what I like Armenia for - they do have their own style! That specific stone for the walls, those traditional carvings on the ceiling (even though they're totally unnecessary)
And the whole place (especially the control room) looks like it's from some Mazinger anime 😅
Isnt this about walking mechs or something :P
@@pigdogurbex yes, exactly 🤣 not just walking but also flying when Scramble Dash is attached 🤣
I've seen the location on other channels and I must say more is always good, the place is beautiful.

Awesome!
What a weird mix of 70's art deco, brutalism and some classical greek or roman style.
I have a lot of love for the control room frescos
@@pigdogurbex The panels looks fantastic.
Where in armenia is this?
