Well done Cam, last night in Paris you proved yourself to the world, love your approach and will use this to further my masters swimming journey, 73 years old this year. There are so many swimmers that give up and hate the pool, throwing away their health insurance. When you get to my age health is number one, that means strength and fun. You are an inspiration, God bless, kind regards Alex in Norway.

Not sure i got all details (french here) but it was very instructive. His approach (training at race speed) seems so obvious when compared to athletics. The guy is so brilliant ! and the swimming world so conservative ?

Magnificent insightful interview and I think the blueprint for this even has been found. Indoor rock climbing skills massively strengthen the fingers and thereby used with swimming biomechanics improve the effectiveness and efficiency for a sprint swimmer.

Just a fantastic interview, Brett, Michael and Cam ! Questions and responses all around! Loved hearing links to track sprinting and gymnastics , I've wondered why these have seldom if ever been mentioned much before in general public discussions about swimming. And, the historic VOLUME aspect. I will use these new (for me) pearls wisdom in my swimming. Older swimmers like myself just enjoy the challenge of trying to get faster. THANK YOU, FELLOWS!

Around the 22min mark they discuss their training method of speed training for racing, and with Brett stating Cam's method seems to be the one on the top. Cam after winning the 2024 France Olympic Gold medal 2024 said he'll share his experience to whoever needs the help.......Queensland, Australia with Brett and Michael will benefit with their experience of sitting down with Cam to share the notes......what was said at the 2024 Olympics, why are the Aussies so good at swimming......come 2032, Cam would have hopefully shared his experience, look out the world.

This is such a great story in so many ways! This approach to training isn't just for sprinting. Training at race speed works for every distance. (The fastest pace you train at IS your race speed!) As a culture, we have a very blunted understanding of how to develop and measure strength. Strength is far more nuanced than a max deadlift or bench press. A lot of guys who can back squat a lot of weight can't perform a single pistol squat, so how useful is that specific kind of strength? Cam's example of difficulty with a back lever is right on. There's a lot we can learn from the straight arm and compound strength of gymnasts. I think it's far trickier to compare swim training to athletics training. The context and variables are totally different so work volume and recovery just aren't easily comparable. Plyometric training, on the other hand, has direct application to swimming, IMO. Anyway, is great to see the traditional dogma being challenged and dismantled.
