I thought he was pulling just the bar like most fitness influencers while demonstrating, moving 225 that fast for reps is super impressive
For a guy that big that’s light weight
@@jayvynn2391 - It is surely more impressive then who lifting
@@yodamaster757 ?
@@jayvynn2391 I think he means it’s more impressive then who’s typing. Because I know you can’t do that
@@marleyjames566 I can do that tho, hence why I said it’s lightweight for him
I gained 20lbs of back muscle just by listening to this.
Facts. I listened to it three times and now it don't fit through the door
Facts.
52 year old here. Do you think it can be achieved with lighter weight and more reps? Will a thicker back reduce the appearance of back fat? Thanks
I gained 21lbs
@@lucianorusso7598 i doubt it, if you want to lose back fat, go in a calorie defecit and lose fat, also just train your back however works for you but train with proper form
No2 is the Pendlay Row. Give the man his due. R.I.P Glenn Pendlay.
Love your videos all the same, even in long form they are always short and concise. No fluff.
fr i was like those were defo pendlay rows
Love doing pendlay rows. Definitely feel some strength gains in my back after starting to do them recently.
I knew someone else had to have caught that
Pendlay Rows are fucking critical
Immediately came to find this comment 😂
Tried the 90 degree row. It hit places on my upper back like never before. Definitely sticking to it now.
Try the t-bar row if you haven't. Just as awesome imo.
That's how I do it anyway, I've just found out I've been doing it wrong and right at the same time lol
Where u pull the abr where do u touch it upper abbs or lower abbs for upper back gains
@@zyzzz6331did you get the answer?? I wanna know too

Best bent over rows I’ve seen on social media
Better than normal barbell row??
That interesting
@@tarikartiste349 Back in the golden era those were "normal" bent over rows. People did not start doing rows more upright until dorian yates "yates row".
@@britishbear6168 and that's how I'm doing barbell row .. always with technique of Dorian Yates
Honestly Great for overall back specially upper back with the overhand grip
And safer for lower back because I don't go all The Way down
@@tarikartiste349 yes. I mostly do the pendley rows they are great. I add height padding to increase stretch
Cool. I wouldn't in one routine, too much for lower back, mix it up over different back sessions but that's just me.
same, rdl is for leg day all the way
Spot on. This guy looks great but his advice isn’t sound at all.
I don't think he recommended both in one session, he said to include in the routine. I would pair the Pendlay rows with the deadlift day if I had to. And I persobally wouldn't do 2 barbell row variations. I would rather do one barbell and another machine chest supported row, because of lower back fatigue.
@@zoomermcboomer4771 cool
Facts !
2) I believe that’s also called Pendley Row
No, the difference is you do Pendleys with explosive force.
@@Fanndal1989 he is doing that with explosive force
@@bashisthamazumder nope, that's very controlled. His focuse is building size while Pendleys are more athletic performance
@@Fanndal1989 that's why I said, it's also falls under pendley - (subjected if we increase the explosiveness). Exercises depends on your goal - what you want and so we name it 👆
Yeah it’s basically the Pendlay Row
Dude by respect, you have such stability strength, I swear your barbell row genuinely looks like you're doing it on a Smith machine
Lower back problems left the chat
I've done my lower back every single time I do this shit, esp. the deadlift
Stay away from these movements
If your form is right your lower back is fine.
Do dumbbell row 1 at a time with your knee on your bench for stability or while lying chest forwards on the bench 2 at a time.
Romanian deadlift with proper form shouldn’t fuck up ur lower back it’s actually a great lower back exercise that targets it without putting it in a awkward position
@@bajaa-od1rgdeadlifting cured my lower back pain
I started building my back muscles not only did I get a thick back but my shoulders and forearms grew muscle in different places i could never hit and it shredded my waist and built my glutes and my Adonis belt developed. Realize i was only big in my arms and chest and working the back put everything together.
This guy looks like a henchman from the Batman Arkham games holy shit hes huge
Bro!!! The movement of your bb rows was so smooth I literally thought you were on a smith until the camera panned over. Flawless👌🏼
I was thinking the exact same thing! So smooth I thought it was on a Smith machine lol
I need to strengthen my glutes and lower back first. I get an insane pump from barbell rows and really feel the connection but my lower back pain always fucks up my form.
Romanian deadlift and goodmorning s
If you have lower back pain do not work your lower back. Spend time learning to do the pelvic tuck (posterior tilt) while breathing deep in through nose out your mouth which requires your abs and glutes to work together to have a neutral pelvis. It’s likely your left leg externally rotates more than your right. This is a result of lengthened/weak left side adductors, obliques, glute medius. Everything on the right side will likely be tight because of the compensation.
U got back pain because ur core is imbalanced and ur hips are tight and lack mobility do banded mobility lacrosse ball ur ass because the hips also have a rotator cuff do the coach stretch do reverse crunches
Yea bent over row and t bar row was a spinal buster
Find an angle that works best for you. I get very little contraction if my body is at 90 degrees
Thank you brotha I'm a big fan of yours, you have that old school look you inspire me 💪
Dead stop barbell row is called a Pendlay row after Glenn Pendlay who’s idea it was.
I'm really glad to discover your channel. you gives precise information with no bs
Facts. Tried your close grip incline presses and they were killer for my upper chest. Keep up the great content man 💪
on a smith machine this is my favorite lift
use dumbbells for the maximize your hypertrophy
FINALLY SOMEONE ADVOCATING FOR RDLS
Isn’t the RDL FOR hamstrings? And wouldn’t the regular deadlifts do the same thing
@@Grimmjow19872 yeah hamstrings and glutes mainly
@@Grimmjow19872 you can get more out of less weight and generally if you do high rep deadlifts especially conventional you will be trashed after
@@Grimmjow19872 it’s for everything but people do it for hamstrings. And yea people should just train deadlift
Aight doing this tomorrow. I can already feel me dying
Barbell rows are easy bruh
Hey man loving your content
I would alternate between dead stop rows and consecutive reps rows. But in both versions, lumbar spine is the limiting factor and not the lats or upper back. Many of us would find that 45° bent better muscle engagement.
RDL used to be my favorite lift until I injured my SI joint. I hope one day to do them again
I like these pointers.
Thanks Mr Khatcherian
Pendlay rows are goated
Great choices, I’d also throw in pulls ups, starting wherever your at currently with them and progress them to weighted and strength allows it
I’m going to implement these! Thanks!
I just did one of those exercises as today is back day. I do the bent over rows but with dumbbells. I'm a carpenter so my dominant hand is a lot stronger than my left. That's why I use dumbbells. Very impressive movement in this video. Keep up the good work.
Now this is what im talking about. Simple techiniques that get the job done. I love this dude, and just look at him the proof is in the pudding.
Heavy dumbbell rows for high reps like a kroc row are great too, tbar rows as well for a weighted stretch and heavy overload
Tbar rows are very high on the list as well 💪🏻
@@PeterKhatcherian would you consider t bar rows as a possible alternative for barbell rows or are barbell rows just better If you can do them
Chest supported t bar rows to be more specific
@@hUrFaH54 T bar rows range of motion isn’t great so it can’t be a replacement to barbell rows, however I believe dumbbell rows single arm are a great alternative to take some pressure off lower back
@@hUrFaH54 They work differently. Dumbell rows target mainly the lats esp if pulling with elbows close to the body. Barbell rows usually target the whole back, but do them Dorian Yates style and they also target mostly the lats.
Any movement that is chest supported or braced with be superior and reduces risk of low back injury
Want a big back? Pull-ups or chin-ups (with added weight if possible)
Pendlay rows
Chest supported rows.
Finally some good advice. Barbell bent rows exactly like that is for built my back along with regular deadlifts
Super glad you mentioned a dead stop barbell row
Best exercise for muscle but worst for lower back problems
I do all 3 lifts. For me, personally, I get very little contraction keeping my body 90 degrees when doing barbell rows. Find a position that works best for you. Everyone is different. Also, Romanian deadlifts hasn’t added any mind blowing size for me. But it has giving me incredible strength and power.
Definitely do the Pendlay row but, the RDL is gonna give you a better hip hinge. The traps, delts etc are getting indirect work. It's a by product of them having to engage to keep the bar in position.
Don't forget 'the secret' supplements.
Secret supplements don't do shit if you don't put in the work.
@@Redditor6079plenty of literature shows that muscle growth still occurs with no input for muscle hypertrophy. Although minimal, you do still gain contractile tissue from enhancements
Magnificent Work! Thank you!
I always thought of the RDL as more of a hamstring/glute exercise.
My top 3 are Pendlay rows, chin-ups, deadlifts.
Excellent tip👌💯.
Yep. This works. I bulked at 18% body fat (I’m a dumbass I know) up to 22% then once I cut I noticed my back got big out of no where. I love barbell rows.
I agree dude! Gr8 content
Thankyou for the great tip.
Thanx Peter, did this workout today. Felt great, effective pump 👍🏻✌🏻
Also called a pendalay row i think. For internet search purposes
This is a REALLLLLY GOOD video of getting i big bacc. i vouch for this big time

A thick seahorse is a thick C left back hook to ground the legs to fit the boots
Aka the bonnet front
Pendlay Rows my favorite
Perfect form 👌
watching Hulk doing Gym exercises 😜
Honestly the barbell/Yates row is responsible for the majority of my back gains. Sprinkling in deadlifts, pull-ups and dumbbell pullovers were the icing on the cake but the row really was my staple the entire time!
Rdl is a leg exercise, you’ll get some stimulus for your erectors, but it trains hammies and glutes
Thank you sir
Thank you for this video
Good video brother..I subscribed
Pull ups deadlifts and barbells rows are all you need fellas.
Pendlay man, Pendlay.
The only true effective barbell row.
Finally someone actually knows what you have to do for a huge back. Been doing these for about a year now and I’m absolutely shredded now and people ask how. I tell them “row with the bar.” Then if you eat right you can get big no gear needed.
I always start wirh the deadlift first. It is the most demanding exercise - by far.
I always do them last because once I've finished them, that's me done! Plus it reduces my load exposure
This guy could pull a fire hydrant out the sidewalk 🤯
Just got a new back injury from just watching this, thanks.
This Armenian guy is very knowledgeable in fitness industry
Thank You 🙋🏿♀️!
I love the dead stop row or pendlay row, you can brace your abs everytime you put the weight down and focus on good form, I get no lower pain at all, in the typical bent over rows is very hard to brace correctly and I always get lower back pain. The T bar row is great but i do it with a dead stop also, no lower back pain at all
That's exactly what I want😮
Dumbbell rows are even better
Your the 3ed dude including me doing these right
Do you have any tips on how I can keep that lower back straight when going heavier? I can't help but to cheat the weight up sometimes to make the bar completely touch my sternum on rows.
I love how this guy keeps saying the same stuff instead of Fong trends and changing people ma workouts every few weeks
I've been doing barbell rows for years and I can attest myself for the effectiveness of them.
Add a variation of the pull up and you’re all set. IMO all you really need is a row, pull up, and then you can add some RDL I guess to hit that stabilization of the muscles of the back as well as hitting the lower back hammys and glutes!
that second one is actually called a pendlay row
For maximum mind muscle connection, spell run at the top of the contraction.
Good mornings are great to
I started doing RDLs mainly for legs and partially for upper back but i've been doing them only for upper back, they are insanely effective for traps thickness
I do Romanian Deadlifts for my hamstrings; I didn't think they were that beneficial for the back. Thanks for the info!
Because they are not. Guy is clueless
@@Ionut2682 you are clueless my dude, check out what muscles work during rdls and come back when you learn
@@Emanuel-km4gi You just as clueless as this homie.
Perfect form
Romanian deadlift seldomly works your back. What you wanna do is a lower pull(any kind of bent over row, barbell, dumbbell, t bar etc) any kind of of seated row and any kind of lat pull down, pulling from all three directions is one of the more important and less talked about things when training your back, throw in a rear delt exercise or two and you’ll have a total back workout.
Romanian deadlifts as with every other deadlift are better suited for leg/lower body workouts.
The primary muscles worked in the Romanian deadlift are your lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. The secondary muscles worked in the Romanian deadlift are your adductors, trapezius, and grip. 🤔?
lats also
I've only been doing lat pulldowns and low row with dumbbells and I've seen huge growth but I'll try using a rod, I'll keep you guys updated
I love how your arms look. Looks straight out of a comic book, i want arms like that. I wish i could use a barbell but i don't think apartments can withstand all that weight when i progress.
4 years prior to this year when i was experimenting with my body it turned out that my back is one of my stronger body parts that can gain muscle easily so what we do is that we try different things on our stronger muscle groups so I tried many pulling exercises but man those rows I do going all the way to 90 degree and romanian deavy fucking deadlift gave me a very thick back with in like 2 months maybe.
Look up the Starting Strength tutorial on power rows, they’re good
Love this
The lower back destruction row
Good for experts.
But there is a high probability that these exercises will hurt the lower back for beginners and intermediate lifters.
This is true because of the stretch
what about t bar raw? i love that one very much
Me injured chronically-
Looks fun
Personally I would use a bench with dumbbells to take the tension off of my lower back as those muscle are targeted with deadlifts. But there is nothing wrong with this exercise if you have the strength to do it without risk of injury.
I'd do the first one , then a chest supported version and finish off with a flexion row to demolish the erectors since RDLs are done with legs for me.
I would also recommend Jefferson curls to avoid injury on your lower back
100% agreed!
I rotate between those 3 plus T rows. Every 8 weeks
Gotta say third guy looks like a jacked Jon Hamm 👍
I really like the meadows row
good stuff
yeah bro pullups and rows are all you need 2 variations of compound exercises
I get on a glute ham raise machine stretch out my lower back before doing rows. And I have found using a Smith machine is helpful too
