Imagine working at an amusement park and finding out the corpse prop you used for years was an actual corpse 💀
Uh huh
If you are reading this congratulations you did not die of dysentery.
As someone who did not die of dysentery (take that, Cortés), I support this message 👍
Puh
Look man, I know better than to get on Terry's bad side. There are much better ways to die than dissing Terry!
I had a massive crap the other day - a true bog blocker. Incidentally, I'd been on the scales to check my weight and curiously went back on the scales. I'd unleashed a 2lb monster. It took 3 flushes to get rid of it! 😐
Man, in "The Oregon Trail" video game my peeps *always* died of dysentery 😒
Well if a spaceship crashes on my ranch there is no way I’d throw the debris down my well. I need to drink that stuff
The well absolutely made no sense. As you stated it's needed for water. And I don't think people would get rid of those unique artifacts. (_Maybe_ they'd think they're unnatural or something and needed to be purged from the face of the earth...)
Poor Elmer wasn't even good at being a bad guy. He made far more money as a corpse than as a bank and train robber.
Fun fact about the hats in Western movies if you look at the businessmen and politicians who wear hats in the movies you'll see them wearing the bowler hats while cowboys/bandits wear the Stetsons and/or bandanas.
That always made me laugh. The cowboys wearing Stetsons was entirely marketing and has worked so well that Stetson is still riding on their name being used as the name for all cowboy hats. But if you look at historical photos you will find that fedoras, bowlers, and sombreros were the most commonly worn hats of the era. The overly wide brim of the “cowboy” hat made them impractical.
0:45 - Chapter 1 - Gun control was taken seriously
3:15 - Chapter 2 - Cowboys vs aliens
5:50 - Chapter 3 - Cowboys didn't wear cowboy hats
8:05 - Chapter 4 - Early settlers travelled west by boat

As a kid in the 1960s, I almost certainly saw the corpse of Elmer McCurdy at The Pike, an old amusement park in Long Beach, California. The Pike was closed down after the 1971 Sylmar earthquake caused the park more damage than it was worth to fix it. After that, it was only used as a film set.
In one of my favorite college classes the prof made an observation that blew my mind. American obsession with both Westerns and Science-Fiction are born out of the "frontier-ism" tradition from which America came. It's right there in Star Trek's intro too, "Space, the final frontier." Fun stuff.
Spaced... the Final Frontier... To boldly space out where no one has spaced out before.
It's also probably a big part of why fantasy and sci-fi stories have become so popular over the years. The feeling of encountering the unknown, of there being stuff to explore and new sights to see, those are ingrained in human beings to our core. As the world has become more connected and less and less exists to explore, it makes sense that we'd engross ourselves in the thought of the older frontiers or in fictional new ones.
Can you imagine the embarrassment of the alein pilot in the Aurora, Texas incident? "Hello! Control! This is Probe 1! Have crashed landed on Alein planet!" "What brought you down Probe? Asteroid? Solar storm?" "Nah, I was flying too low and hit a windmill...."
You say only 30 seconds, but I bet that 30 seconds felt a hell of a lot longer while you're getting shot at.
Unless you were shot after only one second, then it would seem incredibly short

Simon, just to be pedantic, in America the bowler is a DERR-by, like Kentucky Derby, not DAR-by, the English town that made them. Kinda like you have to say miles to we 'Murcans, not kilometers. Mention both, please. Thank you sir.
“Cowboys And Aliens” was based on a short lived comic book series, with a lot of the storylines changed, particularly removing all of the named Alien characters.
What really seals the fate of the wild west not being as lawless as people think is that the there was a federal inquiry into the shootout at the OK Corral. The back and forth between the Earps and the Clantons had been going on for a while. The inquiry determined that while the Earps were justified in their use of force there were probably ways they could have deescalated the situation before it resulted in the incident.
Elmer, what a strange little legend he turned out to be.
That is the price for a modern cowboy hat...$50‐500.
I've seen them running over $1500 for some, but I live in Nashville, so...
I'm surprised about how many of these facts that I knew already....big brain
My family came on the oregon trail and settled in Pacific City Oegon in 1885 and we are still here 5 generations latter
Anyone else laughing at the "cowboy" drawing a modern revolver at the beginning of the video?
Looks like a Colt Python. Lmao.
Since I read this 😂
If this was an episode of Brain Blaze I would have expected to see Alec Baldwin pulling a gun on the set of Rust.
Crazy i didn't even notice. Also why does it matter?
Flinty Clinty reference there.
From what I read far more people in those days carried guns on the east coast of the US. There were far more duels than out west even adjusted for population in places my NYC and Boston, MA.

last time I was this early, the west was wild
I love how the OK corral was a clear example of how gun laws work well with good law abiding citizens but criminals who don’t care about laws decide to break them and people end up dying.
Yup
So you’re saying there should be no gun laws? Great idea!! 👍
In the wild west of the internet, it matters who can comment the fastest

We always wondered why Elmer missed all the family reunions.
I remember that episode of The Six Million Dollar Man
Is Elmer McCurdy considered the last outlaw of the Wild West?
I remember watching a documentary about Elmer they even painted them up a few times to look more spooky it just so happened one blob of paint looked like a tear which made his story a bit more sad
Holy shit this video is so loud. I've watvhed 4 videos with no issues then this one started and holy shit my eardrums are bleeding cause it was louder than any other video I've watched
Try Wagon Train and Rawhide (early Clint Eastwood bonus) for popularization of western culture.
Now we know why Seamus McFly wore a bowler hat in Back to the Future 3
Why is this the third channel I watch that's covering something wildest of west XD in the same day
The price of cowboy hats checks out- I didn’t know wtf a “Resistol 20x” was til I watched my father in law spend $500 on one after snubbing $100 Stetsons. I’ll keep sticking with $12 ball caps like Billy Crystal in City Slickers
I think those cowboys had been on the peyote!!!! 🤣
Pausing read dead redemption 2 to watch this cowboy vid
Me too.
Alien crash landing in Texas? I only heard about the one in Kansas where the occupant survived. I saw all the episodes.
An interesting observation is that if you look at a round UFO from the side, n only observe its shape in 2 dimensions, it looks a bit cigar shaped. Also, I think when the contents of that well were tested, the results were pretty strange.
This story about the aliens was kind of cool. I live in Lodi, California, and have never heard this story before. Just an FYI, Simon, the town is pronounced as Lode-Eye. I know an I at the end of the word usually has the long e sound, but not in this case. Lodi was founded by the Japanese and the Germans. So that might be the reason the towns name is pronounced that way.
man i need to get my hands on a cowboy hat but i dont know where these days when i think of a cowboy hat i think of country music and pickup trucks
Elmer didn't care. He was dead and so were all his family members.
Them martians were DTF
Manners were also very important back then, people were polite also for their health😅

Thankfully most of the southern and western stats now have Constitutional Carry.
Could you do a deep dive of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney please
Having a gun in the city is so different than having one in the country. In places like Alaska, with vast wild places n lots of large wild animals, guns are carried by everyone, and are a survival necessity. Also, if you run into bad people in the country, often there isn't going to be anyone around to help you. You can only defend yourself or no one will defend you. City life is so different. The whole culture is different, n sometimes different laws are needed.
But how are the women, you need guns for them too?
I'd rather have a gun to protect myself in Chicago than in Anchorage. I'll take my chances with a bear than with 5 yard apes.
Bro they did him dirty 😏
Guns are still huge in certain areas of America. I carry my gun everywhere I go. Even in Walmart.
The hat are spanish. The border control soldiers wear those hats, all spanish people were wearing these hats since long time. Middle ages soldiers and farmers used it. Remember that all “far and wild west” it was Spain.
Even the cowboys boots are spanish, born jn Andalucia region. The original manufacturer plant is located close to El Rocio city. We call “camperas”. The spanish soldiers used it in the SXVII wars in Italy, France, Holand, and when we invaded for few weeks England.

It's funny. Your examples for town with laws against guns
Just so happen to be ran and enforced by an organized crime lord. WYATT EARP.
The fight at the ok coral was really a fight between TWO organized crime groups. The Cowboys and the Earps.
Both groups wanted to run crimes in Tombstone Arizona.
I find it hilarious that people still think Wyatt Earp was a good guy. He was a pimp, crook, cheat, robber and lowlife.
He is only thought to be a good guy because he killed anyone that opposed he was an outlaw.
He was 100% an outlaw.
Its just like saying the Bloods or the Crips are good guys.
Lodi is pronounced Low-Die not load dee 😂 America
Osage is pronounced O-sage, not O-saj. Simon knows French, though, so I'm not too surprised at the mispronounciation.
Even people here in California say it wrong so it isnt a huge surprise lol

This is an oversimplified view of the Second Amendment interpretation taken by US courts.
There actually are western films that portray the use of historically accurate hats.
By the way, there is a movie called "Cowboys and Aliens" that is loosely based on 19th century UFO sightings.
If only America had proper gun laws today 😢
We do. Especially in Arizona.

Seriously.
Simon what will it take for you to believe in ........us?
C ewe soon. 😊
Low-die not lodee
As someone who lived in a Lodi, this is true!
However, a fun fact is that it USED to be pronounced low-dee (according to our historical society), but it changed over the years.
Its not the gun that kills, its the person holding it. Humans have killed each in the millions long before guns were invented. Swords, spears and arrows racked up more body counts than guns have. My point is, it is mankind that always finds a way to kill. We must advance as a culture and society to end, or at least limit, the killing.
More people need to find God. That would help. Also fathers hanging out and raising their kids
God is the reason for a large amount of death in history@@MattCatt817

The life of a Prop Master can be hard...
The one time the past wasn’t the worst. Wild West gun control
I'm an American. The 2nd Amendment is always misinterpreted. It specifically says a Militia. Doesn't say anything about individual rights.
It was written because the Founding Fathers didn't want a professional standing army. They thought a general with too much power and support of the military could overthrow the government. So, it is ironic that all the man babies who love their 2A are also pro military. You literally can't be both if you go with the original intent of the amendment.
But what if I as a regular Billy Joe American have to take up arms and form a militia to protect my property? Like all my guns? Who's gonna protect my guns?
I'm an American doesn't mean you know the law. The Supreme Court said it is for individual rights. Also say a dog can give police permission to search without a warrant based on oath or affirmation.
See, but understanding this simple fact would require those folk to actually READ something/anything, and that seems to be out of the question these days unfortunately.
@@nathanbopp6163 Unfortunately, the Supreme Court is often wrong, for example overturning Roe vs Wade. Just depends on how many rightwing conservative nutjobs there are on it.
