You right about them being "soulless," but to be fair, those early Pop Tarts were probably bussin considering they likely used actual fruit filling & the pastry wasn't overly refined & processed like foods eventually became

When Pillsbury Toaster Strudels started giving Pop Tarts a run for their money in the late 90s & 2000s, they introduced the more "grown up" version of the Pop Tart, Pastry Swirlz--which could be eaten hot or cold, but was light years better on the fruit filling & flavor profile.
I wish they never got discontinued.

Love Pop Tarts!!! Im 51, been eating them for years. Strawberry Frosted is always my go-to. But definitely not a breakfast food for me - I prefer savory breakfast food. Just a snack when I'm craving it.

Funny you should mention...I also detect a processed, plastic-ky, taste in sugary snacks I used to eat in my childhood. And that goes for strawberry pop-tarts along with most of their newer flavors. However some of them I actually do like namely cherry, wildberry, and brown sugar with the discontinued-Apple being my all-time favorite. Great video.

I prefer frosted brown sugar since university. I preferred the apple Pop Tart because I like apple pie. I never considered it a breakfast food even though I ate them on the way to class. Ironically I like strawberry in other pastries.

Every Friday morning,
the lunch lady would serve it.
If you eat it cold, you have to compare it to a cold or room temp toaster strudel. You know that wouldn’t be delectable.

Im a product of the 80s so growin up i knew of pot-tarts cuz my mom favorite was cherry with no icing.. the same time her fav pie at McDonalds was also cherry. I personally as an adult when i was hungry, bought the ALDI version of the poptart the brown sugar kind n i found them to be more soft, full n flavorfull.. that was about 2003ish .. i love toaster strudel tho! i thought it came out in the early 2000s cuz thats when i had the priviledge to taste em but apparently they were invented in '85 a yr younger than me. What still gets me as a nursing student and after taking all the chemistry & other classes... *HOW DOES THE FROSTING STAY ON THE DANG POPTART!?!* sugar gets hard when u heat it but wtf is in the frosting bruh.. stays the same cold, heat, frozen.. what chemicals or elements is it really made from... 🤔🤷♀️

I eat cinnamon Pop Tarts on occasion now. I ate them as a kid and rediscovered them during the university years when money was tight or nighttime munchies happened.

I used to love these in middle school but I've found myself liking them less and less as I get older. Even that small box is too much and they end up just sitting around after I eat 1 or 2 of the packs before getting thrown out. I usually get the pumpkin pie ones around this time of year but didn't bother this time

Toaster Strudel’s are pretty good.
They’re a lot more work than a Poptart though, which is why I’ve always preferred the latter.

One of my all time favorite pop tart flavors are chocolate fudge, cookies and cream, and chocolate and vanilla birthday cake flavor
I like the idea of them more than I actually like them
pop-tarts are a tasty memory for me as I see them less and less often in my current household, I only ever really enjoyed the cookies and cream flavor that you had mentioned or the chocolate fudge when it came to my own choices of pop-tarts but yeah, its hard to beat a classic toaster strudel, and im sure someday we will get a toaster strudel recipe out there that takes poptarts flavors and makes them even better or maybe they already exist and I just need to do more looking around!
Exactly why I prefer Toaster Struddles over Pop Tarts, hands down! I used to give mine away in school.

I put my frosted blueberry pop tarts in the toaster and love them.
As a kid, I was team PopTart...without the icing. Now on occasion, Ill eat the S'mores PopTarts when I need a chocolate fix.
Not a fan of the new special flavors but id have boxes of wild berry back in the day.

OK let’s face it their crap but once in a while you get a craving for them. When I was a kid I lived in Germany and we used to put them in the microwave and put them in our pockets to stay warm because they said hot for a really long time if you microwave them to death.

Only thing I can think about is the consumer advice to beware the molten sugar of a hot Poptart, as that stuff will stick to your flesh, and BURN. So yeah, Safety first, folks! Still, If it's anything like the Nutri-grain bars, I could vibe with it.
I've never thought of Pop Tarts as breakfast much like sugary cereals.

Toasters Struddle
The problem with Toaster Strudel is that the flavor I like, chocolate is not on shelves and is always only a limited time just like most other stuff here in the US, a limited time.
I'm team Pop Tart because the almighty S'mores Pop Tarts is an OG for me and it has never let me down. Dip that in some milk after coming out of the toaster and I'm in heaven.

Being in the Army made me hate the ever living shit out of these. We had an overabundance of these on deployments and not even the good kind. Looking at them makes me kinda nauseated. But when they came out with grape flavor I was like fuck it let's do this and I was sold.

Kellogg pop-tarts are never gonna be as good as store brand pop tarts. You know those soft ass sugar cookies you see at walmart that are soft and crumbly but somehow still dry AF? Imagine that but not dry and filled with filling and just DRENCHED in the sweetest, tastiest, unhealthy but worth it Icing! Store brand over original all day every day
This is hard only because Ppp tart keeps coming out with different flavors. I actually want to try that Strawberry Milk flavor. I actually bought some Nesquik flavor milk too so Im looking forward to trying that flavor. Toaster strudel is good yes, but it lacks the convience of having to have either a microwave or toaster around. Of course a flaky pastry that actually taste like a bakery is good. As you see both have pros and cons

I don't like pop tarts cuz the icing is too sweet for me. I wish that they wud do like the toaster strudel and let the consumer put how much frosting or glaze they want on them.
