    Love the Harrison Ford story - it should be shared with every aspiring actor or creative who moves to a big city like Los Angeles. Most leave after about a year as they quickly find out the realities of it all.

    Key point: Make workload seasonal, but keep systems the same - I love this, this works for me, more than ever my body is reacting strongly and differently to seasons and different times of the day (never before, could work any time on any type of work). I'm currently using Cal's daily time blocking, on paper, specifically for daily planning - but only when I feel time-blocking is needed (when I have a limited time-frame or need to get a lot done) - I still keep my weekly plan (my system) but when not busy don't require a specific paper time-block to get things done

    I’d love to hear more about the three days of the disciplines. Would they be three areas of your life? Three tasks? How long they take?

    • @Ashutosh-k7u
      @Ashutosh-k7u Год назад

      1 task is fitneess and focusing on your health mainly working out and eating healthy
      2 task is your work for eg if you are student focus on your studying habits and productivity and if you have a job then do the dame
      3 taks is giving time to yourself like meditation and reading books

    A 45 year old question Cal :) Could you share your doc for your personal strategic plan? Highly enjoyed your system doc summary of your systems on your detailed planning overview short video - it helped put in perspective where timeblocking fits within the hiearchy of your other systems. My current larger perspective question is how value definitions might fight into the current trending topic of alter-ego usage to "get things done" for high performance athletes/creators/performers

    An old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”
    The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”
    The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

    Give me an objectively tough task I find interesting and I can do it for days and weeks. But I feel paralyzed when it comes to doing daily tasks like shaving, filling my gallon of water bottle, or simply logging into my exchange account to track my portfolio.
    Turns out I am ADHD. Yup, that explains a lot. 😅

    I see that you’ve finally caved in and allowed advertising on your channel on top of product placement within the content. Very disappointing

    • @don5oan
      @don5oan Год назад +1

      @@n0th4ckinqThis is a snippet of the full videos. He makes a long advertisement recommending a product within the video. If you are a long time listener you will find them. Actually go check his other videos. It’s really disappointing that he caved. This goes against the principles of deep work and deep focus and most of his writings on protecting one’s attention from the ad infested platforms

    • @Rudzani
      @Rudzani Год назад +21

      @@don5oanExcept it doesn’t go against his principles. Watching a RUclips video is not deep work and it is not an instance of "deep focus". Anyone who tells themself it is is quite frankly delusional.
      Protecting one’s attention simply means that one should be more intentional with their use of social media (ahem, read digital minimalism). Cal’s promoting a product is not an example of hypocrisy, if that was what you were implying.

    • @johnvienna3422
      @johnvienna3422 Год назад +2

      I admit that when I pay RUclips Premium to avoid advertising, I feel disappointed to still have to put up with advertising built into so many videos (not just Cal's). Still love Cal and his messages, of course, but I have to manually skip the ads (which are mostly irrelevant outside the States anyway).

    • @don5oan
      @don5oan Год назад +1

      @@Rudzani Product placement within his videos is fine, having the videos interrupted by lots of ads, BECAUSE HE ALLOWED IT ON HIS CHANNEL, break the attention and disrupts the time allotted for consuming this content.
      He criticizes social media, and mentioned one reason being they are ad infested, which made sense when his channel was not allowing ads to interrupt the videos. Now that he broke the covenant he can just get off the high horse and stop preaching what he does not practice.
      He keeps proposing other forms and business internet models that respect the attention of people given the experience we had in over the past 15 years with social media and their toxic design. Now all of his words means nothing.
      Finally as a principled person, I just unsubscribed from this ad infested channel to protect my attention! It’s all yours 🥳

    • @don5oan
      @don5oan Год назад

      @@johnvienna3422 I feel you. Soon enough we will have an AI that deals with that. This business model is broken as Cal knows and highlighted in previous videos. But before it was tolerated because he is promoting real products himself, which is great for advertisers and also for audience who trust that he is not lying to them because he is personally using them.
      Unfortunately now, he switched on advertising on the channel interrupting the videos which really is the last straw for me.
      I unsubscribed from this channel, which I’m sure Cal approves and would do the same if he was in same position. Maybe he will propose consuming the good content via other mediums that have no ads like books 😆
      I wish you all the best sir and have a good one
