- Elton John and Tim Rice win the Oscar for Original Song for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King at the 67th Academy Awards. Sylvester Stallone presents the award.
I love how Elton dedicates the oscar to his grandmother, it's sweet and a very nice tribute to her.

It isn't first time when animated future has 3 nominations in "The best original song".For example in 1992nd year were nominated 3 song from "Beauty and the Beast";It is "Be our guest","Belle" and winner "Beauty and the Beast".Or in 1993rd were nominated 2 song from "Aladdin";It is "Friend like me" and winner "A whole new world".

I would switch out Hakuna Matata with Be Prepared. I don’t hate Hakuna Matata, but Be Prepared is just better.
FUN FACT: DISNEY was to remove this song from "The Lion King" animated feature film. Elton said, "Every Disney movie has a Love Song in it." DISNEY quickly placed the song back within the film. TRUE.

Can’t believe elton’s grandmother died a week before this took place. It was sweet of him to dedicate the award to her. Even his parents who, according to rocketman, were not very good parents to him.
Let's face it, NOT thanking your parents in an occasion like this, with them present, would have been very awkward. This is the US after all. Doesn't mean he didn't have a painful childhood.
The music was the heart and soul of The Lion King.
It only shows how a great artist Elton is. 5 nominated songs and 3 of them are written by Elton. He is just a genious and i hope he'll be in our minds forever.
I was glad The Lion King won that song. But I bet many of us thought the Circle of Life was gonna win the Oscar.
Yes, Circle of Life is an ode to life and nature, Can you feel the love tonight is a good song but it's just a love song and the lyric is not as meaningful as Circle.

Sean Horace I'm gonna tell you why circle of life didn't win. It's called WHITE PRIVILEGE!! Circle of life won that by LANDSLIDE!!! But WHITE PRIVILEGE reigns supreme. Hell if black privilege was dominant, I'd have all the black songs winning too regardless of how good it was.

This is a Disney song that has rightfully earned its Oscar that year. It’s timeless and can basically transcend the test of time. Elton John and Tim Rice made such an amazing piece that it always reignites my childhood whenever I hear it.

I love you mr. Elton john! I never knew how great his songs were until I saw his clip on TV called "Word In Spanish" two years ago. Now I'm 23 and I can say only one thing knowing and having absolutely all his songs, is that - Elton John is genious!

I would have been satisfied seeing any of the 3 songs winning, hell ALL of the original Lion king songs were classic...they might as well have nominated all of the songs on the sountrack!

The Lion King is one of the best movies ever and should have been nominated for Best Picture. I don't even know why they included the other two movies since they weren't hite like the Lion King.
