Having watched through all of it, a request came to my mind: Could you please do a bonus episode on the other hero of this project Bjarne? A little behind the scenes on how he organizes, films and lays out the episodes in his head? Or tips on how to tell the story better! Anything from gear used to actual examples would be suuuuper appreciated! 😊
Seconded! As a photographer/ film maker, the "other" stuff that goes along with shooting in difficult, dangerous, or adventurous settings is hard to find information and best practices for! Hearing from someone like Bjarne would be incredible! Just binged watched all of these over the past three days. Can't wait to see more.
Hey man, just read an old article with you in Powder Magazine about risks put on athletes by sponsors. And it made me feel even more respect for the project you're doing now. I never realized just HOW big it is to get to watch you as an elite athlete, step away from a line that you're merely an hour away from fully ascending and then descending - because of safety risks. So impressive that it gives me goose bumps. I'm a viewer who watches The Fifty not solemly because of the "ski porn" (that stuff bores me eventually) - but for the whole thing. Personal thoughts, the details that go into planning and assessing safety, the sweaty way up the mountain, the personalities of you, Bjarne and other participants, even the bonus episodes with gear talk etc. It adds a personal, intimate dimension that is the whole thing with RUclips, in contrast to highly edited and polished sponsor films. What I'm saying is - can we viewers be Patreons? This is the kind of content I want to support. Monthly, not just when something big happens and risks are in the equation. This is by far one of my favorite channels and I'd love to be a part of it, and together with other subscribers offer my fav athletes another source of income that isn't based on risk or bangers, but on the whole project, channel and you as a cool skier and person.
33:50 "Heli bumps...awesome! Day-long suffer fests...awesome! Skiing is awesome!" You said it brother! As the late, great Alan Bard said, "The place you choose and the tools you use are up to you...it's all skiing"
Cody... first, specifically, great answer on the Co2 offset "questions" I would say from your answer, you do way more then most of the rest of us. Lastly, this series had instantly become one of my fav things on You Tube thank you and you sponsors for making it happen!
Your so human! Thanks for sharing some wisdom, fears, motivation and most of all you’re go do it attitude! Just to have a glimpse into someone like you is so motivating, thanks RUclips!
Really interesting. I especially liked how openly and honestly you answered the question on climate change/carbon offsets. You handled that really well, and have a realistic and humble approach.
I'd never looked into backcountry skiing until a month ago when I stumbled across your videos. I've been impressed and inspired. I hope you keep up the feats of logistics and effort required for this series and any other projects. Type one or type two, stay happy! And thank you!
Cody, such a straight forward, honest and simple answers! So cool !!! Love to hear honest guys!!!! Thank you for sharing what you love doing!!!!Cheers from Maui, Hawaii!
Just love the guest appearances too. Always good to see world class skiers and how they deal with less than optimum conditions. Always like seeing Pep, amongst others, styleguru, imo. Look forward to this project starting up again, can't wait
Great Stuff Cody, really enjoy watching The Fifty and the Q&A episodes. Thanks for all information/beta you're providing to us. I've been doing more backcountry lately to escape crowds and earn my turns and it couldn't be more rewarding! Have a great summer!!!
What a nice way to get to know a great skier, inspirational, fun, with such a vast experience and a great sense of humor! The fifty series is a hand full project, lots and lots of hard work. I really admire your dedication and love for what you do! Cheers from Maui and stay Safe, always!
Wonderful insightful set of questions and answers - you and Bjarne and team seem to be motivated by the "right" things. I think even your wolverine (dog?) would agree. Look forward to more in the Fall... have a great summer.
We already lost 2 of the 3 couloirs on joffre to the recent landslides. Unfortunately, 5 to 10 years before we go down to the 49 project is looking very optimistic.
This show is sick! Watching Cody's podcast turns me on but due to health reasons I'm trying to stay away from the internet. I'm Jackson biased after living there for 5 years so I like the episode w/ Mr. Chin and The Grand but the gear episode and this one are seat gripping. Can't wait for next year! Thanks
Thanks for all the tips, i am a "late beginner" skier and it will be my first year doing backcountry skiing. HOWever the tip on the nature conservancy, I did not know about. It is great and i will join them, like you said more needs to be done but still is a place to start. Thanks and please keep this project and many more, i learn a lot from this! Great work man! Best vibes all the way from Norway!
Actually Noah posts about his adventures on his website / blog and is making a film with Adam Clark right now about his attempt at the 50. Definitely not posting like I'm posting though that's for sure.
Would love to be part of your project - though I am sure you can find more qualified people. Thanks for this AMA. Insightful stuff and funny.. Didn't feel 39 minutes either.
Hi Cody Hope Your safe and well? I noticed you mentioned that drones, amongst other items aren’t allowed in protected areas, but what if one was used in an emergency, life or death so to speak? A bit late to the Fifty but loving it 👍
Hi Cody, great movies,. Just a comment on the question, "are you crazy", shift your perspective to values and look around the world as if you were an alien. Tell me what you see. I've come to the conclusion we are all crazy all that's left to decide is crazy in which way and how much! Stay safe and keep the movies coming. Also enjoy the bonus episodes especially the ones on gear. How about one on your skins, ski crampons, ice axes etc.
Today I found out my last name is Kelly, better change my birth certificate right away! Jokes aside, great video and quite insightful. The Fifty quickly became my favourite ski project ever and I wish it continued success!
With proper licensing plenty of places. It's better to name where you can't, which are National Parks, Wildnerness areas and air traffic control restricted zones.
@@CodyTownsend i mean thats most of colorado. Where did you find your information? there are so many people discussing it, but i cannot get ahold of any rangers, i can't find any one definitive resource on where you can fly and can't fly. i know with the b4ufly app there are tons of airspaces you can fly, the problem comes from where you take off and land. on private property you need permission, but as the faa states the rules are simple, again where taking off and landed is the gray area that will get someone in trouble
@@CodyTownsend the recent research i have done, technically you can fly over wilderness areas as the faa allows you to do it and even private property. The local governments and local land owners ahve control over where it can take off and land and that is the problem i'm personally having is finding a place i can take off and land without getting my drone taken away or spending time in jail etc. i would just like to know where i can get information that i know im legal.... you seem to have it down which is great!
A little confused about something. I think in the video you've said youv'e done 20 of the fifty lines, but there's 13 episodes so far. Does that mean you've got some episodes saved for release over the summer?
Really nice project and humble talk you are giving! But please apply your thorough research methods also to the NGO's you are praising. Nature Conservancy earned millions from gas and oil drilling on their nature reserve.
I'm a big sports guy so lots of Bill Simmons and Ryen Russilo, then I mix in a lot of the NYT Daily, This American Life and How I Built This. Otherwise the one-off series I loved was Start Up, Serial (Duh), Crimetown, Limetown, S-Town...the usual suspects.
Crisis. Ya think! Relish your days. Skiing will likely be a distant memory very soon. Ski resort hypocricy is rampant. How about stop development. ration fuel. Live in cities. Made your beds. Until travel and fuel use are regulated and development stops nothing will change.
Climate change is for sure am issue but I doubt that we’ll see such drastic effects so soon as you say 5-10 years. Especially considering that the severity of each winter changes almost from year to year. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens at this point.
I mean we are already seeing drastic effects in 5-10 years. Many of the glaciers we ski and use to access these lines are fading away at an unprecedented rate. Winter changing year to year is a symptom of weather. Glaciers receding is a symptom of climate.
Have you heard of the grand solar minimum we have entered and that we will see colder wetter winters and temps will continue to fall through 2030. Should keep these lines in better shape than yhe past 10 years

Cody 2020! Great job with this project - have really enjoyed the series. Looking forward to the next "season"!
I agree systemic changes to grain and cattle production and forestry is a significant step to emissions control
Love the answer to the question about day-long suffer fests. It applies to canoe trips too.
Awesome call-out to Alpineglow! And thanks so much for all the great info Cody! What a great series of videos.

Bonus points for quoting Team America in your wedding vows. "I will never die".
I do the sock sock boot boot left right left right too

Sufferfest! Beer brand outta California making beer for us that like to suffer a little bit.

Fireside chats, with CT. Not the hero we deserve
There is one thing I do not understand: only 16T subscribers. That is just weird considering the quality of this project.
We need a bonus episode focusing on the coffee.
