Kioti CK-35 Tractor Review

  • This is the second Kioti that I have owned. The first was a 1996 - 30hp- manual transmission. This new CK-35 has a Hydrostatic Transmission. I have noticed that I will need to operate this tractor at a much higher RPM in order to get the job done. I like the HST transmission a lot but it does take a certain about of power to run. I had a Woods backhoe on the old tractor that had its own hydraulic pump that ran off the PTO. This backhoe was much slower than my new Kioti backhoe but it does not have the digging power that the Woods had.

    UPDATE: Three years old now and the tractor runs fine but lots of little things are driving me nuts. I also own a Case D40. That machine is 10 times the tractor than this Kioti is. If I had it to do over, I would buy a new Case tractor. Quite a bit more money for the Case but I guess you get what you pay for.

      Hi Tim, you mentioned owning a Woods backhoe on your earlier Kioti. I tried looking them up online, and found a Woodmax company in NY, and a Woods Equipment in IL. Both companies make backhoes, snowblowers, etc. Was your backhoe from Woods Equipment in Illinois? Thanks.

      Yes it was the "Woods" company not Woodmaxx. www.woodsequipment.com/backhoes.aspx

    Tim, I have a DS4110 at 100hrs have had no problems with the loader and really pushed it after seeing your videos. (Still under warranty). Every machine is different I know, great videos and I'm looking into a backhoe....keep the updates coming. Thanks

      Hello Blake. I just looked at your DS4110. I sure wish that I would have bought that tractor! It looks like it is a much more rugged machine and the loader looks more like my old loader. Sounds like the Backhoe subframe is mounted to the tractor then the backhoe is quick attached to it. This is how my old Woods Backhoe was. I think it is better to have the subframe permanently mounted to the tractor like that. BTW, I liked my Woods backhoe better than this new Kioti backhoe. The Woods would dig back toward the tractor further allowing you to see down in a deep hole from the operator seat. (Look at my backhoe review.) Bottom line is that I should have stepped up out of the homeowner CK models to the DS. Gee, I wonder what they would give me on trade? lol Thanks for the comment Blake and enjoy your new DS4110.

    Hi Timtool99
    I'm in same situation. My first Tractor was a 1994 LK2554 Kioti. manual transmission. I sold it and replaced it with a CK-35 HST after 20 hrs I was very disappointed in the performance compared to my old tractor a lot more power but struggles for break out and easy lifting when in dirt pile. I took it back to dealer, they checked all pressures were OK. They told me i had to use clutch because of only 1 pump running tractor & hydraulics. I'm gonna try that but still not convinced. Great video!! Sly

    Update: 100hrs. If you are buying a new tractor, test drive several different brands. I wish I would have checked out the loader before buying. I DO NOT like the Kioti loader. My old 1996 Kioti loader will out work this loader any day of the week. The loader is definitely the biggest negative to the new Kioti Tractors.

    Update: I had a problem with my loader. After just 50 hrs the loader acted like it was sprung. (The bucket was not parallel with the ground. Right side hit ground first) Turned out they replaced the right side loader mount. I am now convinced that this loader is nowhere near as strong as the loader on my 1996 Kioti.

      Yeah they steal ideas from one another. My old 1996 Kioti was a very good tractor. i hope this new one holds up as week as the old one did. I'll be happy.

    How can you use the brakes individually for sharp turning when they're on the same side as the hydrostatic pedal: that almost seems impossible! The Kubotaa and Mahindra's I looked at are the same way. It makes no sense to me!

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  8 лет назад

      It took me a while to get used to operating the hydro pedal. I used to get on and off my old tractor on either side. I quickly learned that if i got off the tractor on the right side, I might step on the pedal. As far as the braking is concerned, I never use the brakes individually as you mention. It looks like you can give up on that idea if you buy one of these tractors.

    Tim, new subscriber to your channel. I will be retiring the family 1941 Ford 9N, and am looking at the compact tractor line that is out there. I looked at Kioti last week, and at first glance looks like a lot of value for the money, and they have incorporated a lot of the important features into the 3510. I appreciate your review, and understand where you are coming from as we are about the same age. I buy things from the perspective that you get a tool for what you need, and you get what you pay for. Thanks again, from South Texas.

    I have a 2008 Kioti ck-35 w/ woods hoe and loader w/ 1700 hours and still going strong. Have not had any major problems yet. The only thing is the location of the key to start it, I hit it with my knee constantly on rough terrain and broke the switch. Other than the normal hose breaking issues, it's a great tractor for the money.

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  9 лет назад

      justin thomas So, your loader is also a woods? I had a Woods backhoe on my old 1996 Kioti and i liked it a lot. It ran off a pump that attached to the PTO. It was a better backhoe than my new Kioti Backhoe, I think. It was slower than the new one but smoother and had more rip-out curl power than the new Kioti Backhoe.

    • @MrJerryjam
      @MrJerryjam 6 лет назад

      I also have a 2008 Kioti but it is a DK35SE. The location of the key is a pain., I hit it with my knee constantly when pushing brush up to burn. I usually do so when driving into the pile and lifting the load. The tractor comes to a sudden stop and I slid forward hitting the key with my knee turning the engine off. Wearing the seatbelt prevents this from happening. I had to turn the hydraulic pressure up a little to give me more breakout force for both the loader and the hoe. I FINALLY GOT THE BACKHOE BACK ON LAST NIGHT! I did not notice that dirt dobber wasps had built a nest on both the front and back of the hoe frame. I finally used the FEL bucket to move the tractor forward enough to blow out all the dirt using my long reach air gun. I then was able to use the bucket to move the tractor back and the pins just fell into place. The hoe had been off for over three years and had settled down to the ground. I should have put concrete blocks under the frame, outriggers, and bucket. My Kioti now has 325 hours much of which is idle time while not actually working. I now 74 and can no longer get down on my creeper to work on equipment so I am selling all of it and moving to town. I will my Kioti. It has been a great work tool these past ten years.

      @TimTools99  7 лет назад

      Kioti is a decent little tractor but I also have a Case D40 and that is a much better tractor but the case is a lot more money. I would say that if you are a happy homeowner who just wants a tractor to play around with, the Kioti is fine. If you have some serious work to do, look at Case or Mahindra or New Holland. John Deere's small tractors don't impress me either. I guess you should go test drive a bunch of different ones then buy what you want.

    Thanks Tim, I do not have any experience with a backhoe on a tractor but have noticed how mine is built. I was thinking a 3pt attachment backhoe, then building my on mounts to the tractor. It's really only for stumps but do not wish to stress my tractor....just asking your thoughts...thank you again.

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  9 лет назад +1

      When I first got my Woods brand backhoe 20 years ago, it attached with the 3pt. I soon learned that a sub frame is the ONLY way to attach a backhoe to a tractor. The backhoe will rip the back end of the tractor off without a sub frame.

      Yeah, I'm not happy with the new Kioti loader. My 1996 Kioti had a good loader. If I had it to do over, I would not buy a Kioti just because of their cheesy loader. Forget the curved loader arms. Mahindra still makes a loader with straight arms.

    I rented one of these last summer, used 3 point seed spreader and a 25 ft harrow on 30 acres that I seeded at a housing project. harrowed it, spread seed, then harrowed it again. the machine was brand new, had 5 hours on it when I got it, the harrow pulled a little hard the whole time.. when I was done the machine had a hydro leak under the drivers seat, ended up taking the dealer a day or so to fix at no cost to me... but it was first rental one they had out, and they where not so happy with its performance.

    The quick attach

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  9 лет назад

      The quick attach mechanism could be improved. The handles have sharp corners instead of a comfortable rounded handle. Also, the handle pulls hard. My case tractor quick attach handle pulls real easy. Kioti needs to redesign theirs.

    Thank you so much for your Kioti videos. I really appreciate you taking the time to update your thoughts after a few years of ownership. I am in the market for one of these compact tractors and I am trying to look at it as an investment in equipment that I will have to live with for the next ten years or so. Based upon your feedback, I may consider something other than the Kioti at a little higher price point. Thank you again!!

      Hello Jason. I have checked out other compact tractors and each of them has things that I don't like. I didn't like that Mahindra after driving it. The controls on the Kabota seemed awkward to me. John Deere also seemed cheap! Going back to the kioti ..... I have the CK model. If you check out the DK Kioti model. A friend of mine got the DK and he said it is heavier and much better built than the CK's. I like the looks of the loader on the DK too. It has the straight arms and looks much stronger than the curved arms on my CK-35. I like they way the Kioti runs and it is comfortable to operate... Check out the DK's www.kioti.com/products/tractors/dk-10-series/dk4510/

      If I had it to do over, I would NOT buy this tractor just because of the crappy loader. Also, I had never owned a Hydrostatic drive before. My old 1996 manual shift 30 hp Kioti would out-work this new 35hp machine in every way. The Hydro takes a lot of power to run. Sure it's nice for loader work, I guess but I am not able to do the work with this new tractor that I could with the old one. I would say, if you want the Hydro, go at least 10hp more than the same tractor in manual gear shift. Also, the quick attach system on the Kioti is junk. The levers do not work easy and are crude. I have to use a pice of pipe to slide over the levers to release them. My Case tractor the levers lift effortlessly. You definitely get what you pay for. I went cheap and that's what I got.

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  7 лет назад

      Getting ready to do my springtime service. I haven't looked at that hour meter in a while. I probably have 500 hrs on it now. The tractor is an okay machine for the price. I wouldn't buy it again. It's a lot of little things that drive me nuts. The latest is the foot pedal for forward - reverse sticks. When you take your foot off the pedal, the machine keeps going! I gotta check that out. The bolts in the subframe loosened up and I lost one nut. Gotta check those often and keep tight. Didn't have little problems like this with my 1996 kioti tractor. If anyone is considering buying a kioti, I would recommend that they buy just the tractor. Buy an aftermarket loader. Kyoto loader is junk. If you want a backhoe, get a Woods brand and their sub-frame. The tractor runs fine but man, kioti implements are cheap-made as hell.

  • @MiserableOldFart
    @MiserableOldFart 7 лет назад

    Same crazy brake setup as on my New Holland TC26DA. You can't use the left or right brake and the speed control at the same time unless you carry a stick or have a VERY talented right foot.. I don't understand that setup at all, and have actually never used the left/right brake on my tractor because it's too much of a PITA. Being able to use the brakes that way is particularly handy when using the loader to push snow, as your steering doesn't really do much under those conditions - also for sharper turns when mowing.

    • @TimTools99
      @TimTools99  7 лет назад

      You know, I also have a Case D40 tractor. The quality of that tractor compared to the Kioti is night and day but the Case is a lot more expensive. I guess it is a good idea to shop around and test drive these things before buying.
