Someone got to this long before you and got all of the good stuff. Great Idea using the hammer drill with a chipping bit. I used one in Florida to chip away older concrete for some repair work. Brutal work & we worked a full day. Save the back at all costs!
Hi Tom, You have sent your snow and gales over here to the UK but it gives me a chance to sit in front of my computer and watch your video without feeling guilty about being lazy ! Always a pleasure to see your enjoyment of the hobby, good "haul" or not.
I love your videos, I’m always so happy when I see a new video from you! I’ve told family and friends with historic houses that they have buried treasure somewhere on that land, they seem to think it’s not worth the work, which is bizarre to me. Since finding your channel I’ve watched some other diggers and I’m pleased to report that you appear to be very respected, something of a legend amongst many. Thanks for the content!!✌🏼
Hello again Tom! Still get excited when your new video pops up. We really do enjoy your digs! I'd love to know how you got into this and if possible, share some of your favorite pieces...much love from the east coast 🙏🥰☺️👍
Butte is such an interesting town full of historic buildings! My brother has an early 20th century project house there and I'd love to go take a shovel to the place.
Slim pickings this time but I admire your stamina and determination. I must be getting educated as I'm beginning to recognize some of the items your are digging. Thanks for the information on applied top verses machine made. What is the difference between a blob top and an applied top?
2nd bullets you found, UMC is Union Metallic Cartridge. They are still in business today, part of Remington Arms. Thank you, I really enjoy watching your digs!
Tom, the pits seemed smaller and not as deep, but you did find some nice bottles and items. The home looked beautiful. My favorite was the unique bell style ink bottle. Thank you for another awesome adventure.👍👏👏😀
I've been watching you since the beginning of the pandemic-- I find them to be soothing and interesting. We also play a game in our house... I shout "Bitters!" when you find the first bitters of the pit. Because there is always bitters. And today, it was only a couple of minutes in! I also give a cheer when you find undigested seeds, and my husband thinks that's gross. 😀
11:45...Woodbury NJ? I was born in Woodbury, New Jersey!. It's in south western NJ, in Gloucester County. Just a hop, skip from Philadelphia PA using the Delaware River and Mantua Creek water ways back then. That find had me do a double take. WOW!!! Amazing!
I’ve been strapped for time lately. I’ve nearly enough videos to last the winter, though. One more digging trip in a week and I should then have some free time.
Wondering if you ever found what you were looking for in Butte (some sort of bottle, but I don't remember what). Wow, that was early snow because I think you were there around a month ago. Cool house and hotel where you stayed! I would have been excited yo see that old doorbell if I was the homeowner! They seem to be fixing up Butte and embracing their past. Thanks for taking us on this dig! Keep on digging!
The cup with gold..gold leaf is applied with a very very thin sheet of gold. Back then, gold leaf was actually made of gold. It was applied with soft pressure (usually a special brush) over glue. A finish coat could be added over gold leaf. Gold on pottery, porcelain, & ceramics is painted on with a liquid that contains actual gold. It is reddish/brown/black, but it turns gold when fired.
Well it was 35 degrees here Saturday so we are not even into summer yet! Will enjoy your snow but stay warm! Only snows in a few high altitude places in Australia in winter
I’m watching in 26 deg & your top temp in Montana is 1 deg !. Always watch your great show here in Aus 🇦🇺🦘Every Sunday & have been subscribed for a while now.
Love digging in Butte, some big deep pits there (miners know how to dig!), last pit we dug on our last trip, along with the bottles we pulled a horse skull sporting two small caliber bullet holes, privy digging is so much fun!
@@TomAskjem. I do remember some "disturbed" pits there, one in particular had plastic bread bags from the 50's-60's half way down, but we pulled a couple terr. meds right in with them so not dug into by bottle diggers? Haven't been back since just before covid, keep getting distracted by towns closer to home, once you cross the Rockies the western bottles pretty much dry up. Bet you were hunting that Wilson blob, lots of great bottles from Butte! BTW, if a home owner there says it was two guys from Wa. state, I just might know who that was! 😉😁 Love the vids man!! 👍
I messaged the guy who lives out there and didn’t get a response. I do know that the place was picked over long ago but am not sure how much digging my was done. I photographed a whiskey bottle that someone found out there, back in the 60s or 70s I believe
that house possibly hat slate roofing back in the day. to put those slat shingles in place copper nails are used, that could be there the nail came from…
You should save large chunks of anthracite (coal) when you come across them. You never know if they might have a fossil in them. Plus, coal is interesting as a fossil in itself. It's a shame neither of the holes yielded anything worthwhile, other than that nice barrel mustard jar and the button.
I’ve been strapped for time lately. I’ve nearly enough vids to last the winter, though, one more digging trip and I should be good and should then have some free time.
Wow, the lengths you'll go to for your craft...uff da!---Suspender clip, or garter clip? I didn't get a good enough look at it.---Did any of the residents come out to watch?!---OOPs, my screen went black during the review.
Could someone tell me where i can find the video that had the old map in the book? I had watched a previous video, but nothing about a map was shown in that either.
Do you know why they threw garbage in the outhouse? I understand why a booze bottle would be in there but I don’t understand why people would fill the outhouse with trash. Didn’t they have a dumps or burn pile? Just curious…Thanks
It was basically a convenient dumping place. All the wood/paper packaging would be burned in the stoves. Note outhouses were cleaned out and refilled during those times.
Tom, I was hoping you would make it to Montana...soooo exciting. And so dedicated.Thank you for doing this it's wonderful to find things with you. 😊
Interesting digs and finds!
Hey! Tom! Thanks for explaining the difference between tool top and applied top bottles! Another educational video!
Nothing stops Tom, snow, rain or wind..outhouses will be found and treasures discovered..❤
You got the right tools for the job Tom. Want be long before you will have to dig through the snow in Montana. Stay warm my friend.🇺🇸🇺🇸❄️❄️🔥🔥
Finally! Applied top and tooled top explained! Thank you, Tom. 🙂
Tom is AWESOME! Makes me want to dig up my backyard!
Someone got to this long before you and got all of the good stuff.

Brutal work & we worked a full day.

He started digging as a kid on his parents old farm in North Dakota. It went on from there.
Cool old things. Thanks for the weekly uploads. ❤

Great as always
Butte is such an interesting town full of historic buildings! My brother has an early 20th century project house there and I'd love to go take a shovel to the place.
Yes, more rocky in the west, keep digging!
Hello from Butte, MT. This was nice to watch and also oddly relaxing 😂
Hi Tom. Snowing here too! Storm "BERT", 70 mph winds 30cms of snow. Much better off down a hole! 😊 UK.
Beautiful and rare snuff jar lid🎉...👍 Found hundreds of pottery snuff jars in Minnesota but only found 2 lids.
A major haul or just a few goodies, I always enjoy the videos 😊
It’s amazing how ash just does not change over time.
Cool bottles , I subscribed!

UMC was Union Metallic Cartridge. The Remington Arms Company later purchased UMC.
Out in the SNOW digging bottles for us! That’s a good chisel tool you use to free up the topsoil. Very interesting. 👍🇬🇧
Tom the 44 cal cartridge are 44 Smith and Wesson Russian,it is a precursor to the 44 S&W SPECIAL
Tom. Yes. 1😊😊😊😊😊
Wow, thanks for the digging adventure and I’m sure that the cold helps with the aroma. GBY
"Let's take a walk around and see what's going on!"
It's interesting to find unused bullets! I love the house where he was digging!
The stuff you go through to make your videos❤❤
Interesting haul! Stay dressed warmly, be safe.😊
25:15 something to note: I have found those exact same glass buttons with same pattern all the way in Wellfleet Massachusetts while doing excavations
Tom, the pits seemed smaller and not as deep, but you did find some nice bottles and items. The home looked beautiful. My favorite was the unique bell style ink bottle. Thank you for another awesome adventure.👍👏👏😀
That mason jar lid is rather valuable. Do a bit of research, and you will see that it is. You can sell it for a fair bit. Just a thought.

That was a chilly day!
Missed the descriptions and the summary photos, but still a great dig! Thanks, Tom!

I did not but will be trying back at some point
Hey... welcome to Montana. a thought, there is a vid titled the best preserved ghost town in Montana. I wonder what might be found in that town?
The cup with gold..gold leaf is applied with a very very thin sheet of gold. Back then, gold leaf was actually made of gold. It was applied with soft pressure (usually a special brush) over glue. A finish coat could be added over gold leaf. Gold on pottery, porcelain, & ceramics is painted on with a liquid that contains actual gold. It is reddish/brown/black, but it turns gold when fired.

I appreciate you for putting in all that hard work that you didn't make us watch.
My old home town!
Stay warm Tom

Thanks for watching!
That was fun. Too bad they were dipped. Love the age. Take care. 😊
Please please come to Philipsburg Mt. You have to dig here and up the hill In Granite Mt. I think you will love it.
Have a great Thanksgiving ❤❤❤
I think of all the places I lived at that I'm sure had outhouses just never thought anything could be in them
What do you do with everything you find? Does the land owner gift it to you or do you share??
I remember where the outhouse was at, at my grandmas house which my uncle lives now i can only imagine whats in the ground i hope to dig this summer
Wow! The lime looks like it was just laid out.
Love digging in Butte, some big deep pits there (miners know how to dig!), last pit we dug on our last trip, along with the bottles we pulled a horse skull sporting two small caliber bullet holes, privy digging is so much fun!
Interesting. Butte was rough. Aside from the granite I kept finding pits that appeared to have already been dug.

It'd be so cool to see you dig a pit at Cerro Gordo. Idk if you're aware of Ghost town living on yt but that would be super awesome

Welcome to digging in the west! Not the "butter" dirt you are used to in the mid-west :)
My dad was born in butte
6:35, I wonder if that's possibly part of the door bell.
that house possibly hat slate roofing back in the day. to put those slat shingles in place copper nails are used, that could be there the nail came from…
In the words of our Australian friends, breaking up of the ground look like hard yakka.

uh oh ... forgot the closing finds at the end of the video.. a good cold dig though.. stay warm and well!!
I’ve been strapped for time lately. I’ve nearly enough vids to last the winter, though, one more digging trip and I should be good and should then have some free time.
So you’re not digging for Egyptian artifacts, still very interesting to me!
It’s telling when you don’t have bottles to show after 2 pits. Hope the next pit is better for you.
UMC=Union Metallic Cartridge Company. S&WR+Smith & Wesson Revolver caliber
Thanks!

Hey, I do metal detecting in Montana. I’d love to do a collaboration video with you in Bozeman Montana if you’d be down for that.
