    Does anyone else get annoyed by the people that go "You kids and all your stupid subgenres and whatnot it's all metal just listen to it" like just shut up bro. I understand it can get ridiculous at times but overall it's really not that hard to understand, open your dense mind a bit it's not that deep.

    Scream Bloody Gore: Thrash/Death
    Leprosy: Old School Death Metal
    Spiritual Healing: Progressive Death Metal
    Human, Individual Thought Patterns: Technical Death Metal
    Symbolic, TSOP: Melodeath.

    Good compilation, although I would like to add Death-Thrash, Industrial Death Metal and even War Metal. Deathcore is interesting, in that it has garnered multiple subgenres and sounds in itself to be considered a separate genre from Death Metal just like how Death Metal and Black Metal branched off of Thrash.

      War Metal isn't a subgenre of Death Metal though (and neither of contemporary Black Metal). It evolved indepentently out of First Wave Black Metal. The lineage, in my view, goes something like Apocalyptic Raids (1984) -> INRI (1987) -> Blood upon the Altar (1989) -> Jesus Spawn (1991) -> every modern War Metal album.

      I’m not making fun of you because I understand you may be young and just not learned on the other side of things, but I genuinely do not understand the point of listening to a new band’s record when an older band did it BETTER 35 years ago? How many thousands of releases may be out there that send these new bands home on a stretcher, that you’re missing out on because you’re limiting your scope of what’s “good” to normie stuff that anyone with even a passing curiosity in music with distorted guitars and yelly vocals has heard? That’s like saying you’re a huge rap fan but all you listen to is Tik tok stuff. There are probably tens of thousands of releases nobody’s ever heard of that blow anything new out of the water, sitting around moulding up and gathering dust in a basement somewhere. Before I even work my way through them, what business do I have spinning an album from like 2015?

    i feel like the examples are all picked in a way that they sound very close to the standart death metal. for example the melodeath samples seemed like melodeath songs that are so close to normal death metal that it may even negate the point of comparison. most melodeath songs are way more melodic and less brutal and can even be classified as power metal or neoclassical metal if it werent for the vocals. i think the video isnt bad its just that the examples could have been better to illustrate the differences because even to me as a great fan of melodic and technical death jmetal they all sound the same

      I didn’t agree with all of his choices either but that’s the great thing about these comment sections eh - to pick apart something that someone else took hours to make, that you were too lazy to do. I think the reason he chose the bands he did is because he wanted to show popular, easily accessible bands with tons of YT views or Spotify plays, that you could easily find an in-print or not-too-expensive copy of their record, that most people with even a passing knowledge of death metal would know. He didn’t go for any super obscure, kvlt, underground bands nobody has ever heard of, but things you could likely find on your streaming service of choice or at your local music shop. Just to show some examples. Because lord knows opinions are like assholes - they stink. I was playing with my dog but as soon as the melodic stuff came up, I had an idea of who it was and had only to look at my screen to confirm it. I’m like “wow, things just instantly got wimpy as hell” lol. If you think Lymphatic Phlegm’s newest sounds anything like Left Hand Path, or Tales of Necrophilia sounds at all similar to Serpents of The Light, you not only need a q-tip, but likely a whole frontal lobotomy, because you are out of your fuckin’ mind, brahbrah.

    Classic Deathmetal is generally called OSDM (Old School Death Metal). Deicide was considered more brutal deathmetal when they first started as they were part of the second wave, along with Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation. Never include deathcore with deathmetal. It's an insult, hahaha.

    • @icankillbugs
      @icankillbugs Год назад

      You sound like you’re pushing up your glasses and saying “ACTUALLY” while not knowing what you’re talking about at all. I agree, deathcore fucking stinks and I’m never going to defend it or say it’s on par with death metal, but I feel like this video was made with “normies” in mind. People who can’t distinguish different genres of music aside from shouty-man vocals and distorted guitars are none the wiser. At least OP specified a distinction. Any young fool who’s into “heavy music” for SOME reason calls wimpy lamb of god, slipknot, all shall parish, Emmure, etc “metal” when really it’s all little girl, pink panty wearing, Charmin soft tampon boy shit for 40 year old for MySpace account-having emo men who still wear women’s jeans and have flippy hair and groom middle schoolers. And you know it. You’ve undoubtedly seen it. There are things I disagree with in the video but he draws a line which is more than many can say 😅 and by “many” I mean those Lorna Shore posers who call fans of true metal “gatekeepers” or “elitists” or think actual metal is “dad music” and that Trivium is somehow as heavy and valid as Tales of Necrophilia…
      Stylistically, Deicide does not fit the “brutal” style at all, and if you really cared about what genre others lumped bands into so badly, you’d know Suffocation is frequently made fun of for being deathcore, much like Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy, and new Malevolent Creation.

Just because I call it “new wave of boring ass, generic American death metal” and metallum has no such listing, do you pretend to not know I’m talking about bands like Gatecreeper, frozen soul, 200 Stab Wounds, tombstalker, etc? If you’re worried about headings, maybe consider that all of these bands - as well as bands which are categorically and not even sonically similar whatsoever to death metal, such as lamb of god or whatever other core bands are popular - trivium? Emmure? Senses fail? Devil wears prada? Are also in the “heavy metal” category at your local music shop 🤷🏻 At some point you’ll realize you’re splitting hairs. Even when you get to the level of “elitist gatekeeper” metal newbies such as yourself call me. And no, I’m not calling those example bands metal whatsoever, they stink and their members can stick their heads in their oven and nobody would miss’em. But you’re on about semantics. Yes, technical death metal is obviously different from death doom. So categorizing these bands makes sense whether you’re discussing the music with a total fan or somebody who doesn’t know their head from their cunt. But shitting and pissing and prolapsing your pants over it being called “modern death metal” is infantile and wimpy. You think the greats from the 80s and early 90s called themselves “old school death metal”? I’m sure if not something like “ritualistic, Satan-fucking brutal black malfeasance”, they at least called themselves “death metal”, much as modern bands do. The distinction is made for the reason any distinction is made - to distinguish them apart from one another.
