Can you suggest ballpark settings to shoot a wide angle shot of the path during partial eclipse full frame at 40mm with a 16 stop solar filter? Thanks!
I just saw this video in the suggestions and I see I'm the only one too post a comment after the event. I just wanted to say thanks to you guys and the staff at BandH for the awesome tips they shared. I live about an hour east of Dallas and have never had a chance to photograph a total solar eclipse or any eclipse, and I could only shoot the totality portion and used the spray and pray technique (focused and bracketed by 3's) and came out with a really good diamond ring image. Did it get that dark in Dallas? I had enough light too see without a need for a flashlight. One tip I'd like too share with the screw on filters, I shoot with a regular DSLR and use them too shot IR BW's, I don't thread the filters on completely just about 2-3 turns or enough for them too not fall off. Cheers!
guys do you know if I need for my ND filter to have IR and UV protection, or is ND 100000 alone enough to protect a 200--600 and a 1.4X telephoto and a full frame sensor?
The ND 100,000 will help with exposure but will not protect from the harmful IR/UV radiation. Do NOT look through a DSLR Optical Viewfinder without UV/IR filtration. So bottom line is you CAN use a ND 100,000 but stack it on a UV/IR Cut filter. Safer for the camera and essential for your vision!
Good evening its Care here from South Africa, thanks to Todd & Derek, for this 2024 Solar Eclipse Presentation, I'm so looking forward to this Cosmic event on 8 April 2024 🔭🔭🔭!!!

Glad you were able to get photos of the solar eclipse! We only got a partial eclipse over here in NYC, but still incredible to see.
Nice to know about the Binoculars.

Meridian flip in Dallas not worth worrying about.
