    Oh, Edelgard... I really do agree with Claude. She SHOULD have explained herself, talked about the forces at work with Dimitri and Claude. They could have unified their respective factions and brought down both the Church AND TWSITD. Or at least, they wouldn't be killing each other.

      I already write on an Fan fiction in which I make it happen. However, until now does it require addition of an Traitor to the TWSITD. That is why I created my Three Houses OC and wrote out his whole character, the Timeline Events of his Life, from Birth until he reached after an give year long Journey through Fodlan with Secrets, Knowledge and the Truth of the History. His Name is Sephiroth and is the bloodrelated son of Thales.

      @larsbohmer6319 3 года назад +12

      @@ball6183 First, Thales and Co have spread their own Mix of Lies within what they told Edelgard about, since Hubert and her come to the conclusion that the Valley of Torment was caused by the Javeilns of Light which are used to obliterate the both City Forts of Kingdom and Empire.
      Second, you think Rhea would have that Happen? Seterh might be easier to negotiate, but Rhea is so obsessed with her Mother that the Religion she basically formed to give her an Place in all the people's Heart. And those who just did not follow them had to die, which is an very much wrong approach.
      Third, I do not try to defend Edelgard here, but in the instable Mantal state Dimitri was in, that the wrong wording could throw him off and he just would not want to listen anymore. There are more issues at Hand, basically that the Azure Moon Route is not without a reason the Route that demonizes Edelgard that much(though I think that Those who slither in the Dark drugged her in some way as Hubert was already dead or absent).
      As example do you get to know that Edelgard waited with her Attack in the Monestary so they could evacuate the people, which was instructed by Seteth. Right, not Rhea, who also burns down all of the Kingdom Capital with the Citizen still inside. Seteth is the most reasonable to argue with regarding that, however he was not always in terms with Rhea and her methods and he would not take Charge of the Church either.

    honestly... if Edelgard just explained herself a bit to the other two house leaders... she probably would have gotten the support she needed... Dimitri would have loved to kill those snakes since they are the ones truly responsible for Duscur... and Edelgard planned to kill them after she got rid of the church... also Claude's goals could have been brought into motion by a new, unified Fodlan... after all of this... we get an ending where Dimitri can settle military affairs, Edelgard can work out the internal workings of the new Fodlan, and Claude focuses on foreign affairs and bringing Fodlan outside while being others within
    this not only would have gotten rid of the church and nobility system, as well as destroy TWSitD... it would have unified Fodlan relatively peacefully and given each of them a new role in a world of peace... make no mistake, it's far from perfect, but a land that is as diverse as the Alliance, with the might of a Kingdom and grip over its people as an Empire... it doesn't sound too bad honestly...

      But that's the beauty of this game- no matter what side you choose, someone loses. The flaws of the three lords ensure that none of them will attempt to work together. Edelgard is too prideful to ask for help and too stubborn to surrender, Dimitri is so blinded by his own emotions that he can't really be reasoned with, and Claude is so unpredictable at times to the point that few trust him. Everyone is at their best in their own routes with Byleth's influence. Without their professor, the three of them would just keep fighting until no one was left- which is what TWSITD wanted. To have a path where all the lords team up and fight the true bad guy would cheapen the other routes because you could have done better. Therefore, there cannot (and should not) be a perfect ending like the one you describe.

    • @tektonik4616
      @tektonik4616 3 года назад +5

      @@emilygillock3803 I wasn't saying that it should happen, I perfectly agree with your points... but at the same time, if they did simply explain themselves to each other, then they'd have all achieved their goals without killing each other and it's the mere irony that all that needed to happen was the lords talking...
      I don't want it to happen because that would have ruined the story the game made... but at the same time I do want it so all of the characters could just live happily
      actually... there is a way to get this good ending without ruining the others... just make it so you have to get the other endings before the "true" ending becomes obtainable... this means you have to play the game from the beginning at least 4 times anyways...and while at it getting these other possibilities... though in the end, that's an idea, and how good of an idea it is... we'll never know... but I at least know that such an option is possible if the game designers wanted to have done that

      I don't believe Edelgard would've gotten as much support as you'd like to think.
      Edelgard wants to dismantle the nobility, it's Crest Hierarchy and church. Two of Fodlan's leading political powers. This has widespread ramifications across all kingdoms and houses that cannot be so easily partitioned with.
      Dimitri has lost much of his kingdom's presence and is the sole survivor of a massacre. Edelgard's system would've stripped him away of any prominence of his family's position or chance to truly recover. Claude shares much in common in reworking the nobility system but has a drastically different approach to his vision. On top, the Church would never side with Edelgard's position to dismantle the importance of crests.
      Edelgard recognized that her path she has chosen is laden with blood. Nobody would pay any heed to her if she didn't force the choice to be made. Too many people are comfortable with the system, and far more are victims to the systems at play. For as long as the Church of Seiros was in power and the nobility played along. Nothing would ever change.

      @@Polomance862 she doesn't have to work with the church, she tells the two who Rhea truly is and say she's just as corrupt as the snakes and it won't matter... her and Claude would easily work together to end things relatively peacefully, and Dimitri might be a bit miffed or end up with the short end of the stick, but it's not like he gets just a small cut of this pie and it does benefit him too as he finally gets to go wild on those truly responsible for putting him through that massacre... leaving the three lords at peace with no church, no internal strife, no hatred or war within their borders... Dimitri would likely prefer peace over getting to sit on the throne anyways if he could make such a choice... and Three Hopes exemplifies the fact this all could have been possible, if Edelgard just told the others what she was up to and tried to work with them

    • @tektonik4616

      I love how Three Hopes proves that Claude would work with the Empire with a proper explanation of things before death takes its toll... that just leaves Dimitri who was only against Edelgard because she was working with the people behind Duscur, so if she stepped out of the way and said they were effectively holding her hostage as well, he would have gone on the killing spree he needed on them all

    Seriously, people need to stop holding on to the past. That causes all of the problems in this game. Claude has accepted his past and uses it to strengthen his goals. But he also doesn’t run in blind and tries to find the truth. This was very well done.

    • @Polomance862
      @Polomance862 2 года назад +2

      There's quite a drastic difference regarding what the past means to each character. Letting go of the past isn't so easy as everyone's experiences are drastically different.
      Claude has let go of the past and uses his dreams to carve his ideal world of which Fodlan is united with no prejudices.
      Dimitri is haunted by the past, laden with survivor's guilt and a thirst for justice twisted with rage.
      Edelgard is a victim of the past, and seeks to carve a future that is free of the monsters who lead the world that had made so many victims in the world.

      Plus there’s Rhea. That woman started a whole religion, governed a Feudal system of government, and did human experimentation because she couldn’t let go of the past and her mother. Plus if her attempt at recreating her mother betrays her, she goes ballistic and commits a lot of atrocities. All the events in the game are because Rhea herself can’t let go of the past.

    This video makes a lot of sense, and has me think of some route alterations for the non-AM routes, that would be more in-character for everyone. Between VW and CF, you could either move the Nemesis fight from VW to CF, with Nemesis being awakened by Rhea's demise, or keep it as is. Whichever route doesn't get the Nemesis fight, the final battle would be at Hrym, liberating the land from Thales and company's harsh rule.
    VW alteration: Have this video happen. The point of Hubert's note is to follow up on this scene, so that Edelgard and Hubert can posthumously lead Claude and Lysithea to beat TWSITD, fill the power vacuum, and unite Fodlan under Byleth. For the final battle, Claude would be forced to be more open about his heritage in order to get Almyran reinforcements, and their help could rehabilitate the image of Almyrans in the eyes of the people of Fodlan.
    CF alteration: The route split happens at the decision go to Enbarr with Edelgard. Edelgard admits to being the Flame Emperor earlier, and proves she had nothing to do with Jeralt's death (if he even still dies). The confrontation in the Tomb is more truthful, about the ways Rhea has technologically stunted Fodlan, and Rhea turns into a rage dragon in front of everyone, due to these truths being exposed, and losing her chance to be close to Sothis yet again. Potentially, the Eagles could've accompanied you to the Shadow Library. This honesty would give more reason for characters to side with Edelgard who otherwise wouldn't, and with all these truths revealed, you can recruit them post-timeskip. Metodey could either not exist, or be left to die for being too evil. The "Spare Claude" option is mandatory (because who the hell wouldn't?). Sparing Seteth and Flayn is given less strict requirements. Edelgard doesn't lie about who destroyed Arianrhod, since she has no in-story reason to do so. Instead, this shows how she was basically forced into starting the war, and makes clear to her allies that they'd be going after TWSITD next. Following the fight with corrupted Rhea, Edelgard gives her a solemn funeral (as she didn't truly hate her), as well as one for the people of Arianrhod. For the final battle against TWSITD, the Alliance lords under the command of Count Gloucester, plus maybe Claude or whoever you spared, bring the fight to the Agarthans to stall for time and prevent them from reloading the nukes, until Edelgard and Byleth can make it back.
    SS alteration: If you don't go to Enbarr with Edelgard, you can spend more time with Rhea. During the pendency of the war, Claude has been enabling Almyrans to serve as mercenaries for all sides of the war, thus whoever wins, Almyrans are seen as contributing to the win. This also adds to the moral ambiguity of Claude, and shows how he can be at his "worst" when you're not with him. Edelgard's death and Hubert's note exposes the Agarthans, who take refuge in the Kingdom, rallying behind Cornelia. They also use Dimitri (still alive) as a puppet of war, whose mind has completely been given over to unfulfilled blood lust. This also gives reason for Blue Lions students who you didn't recruit to defect to you post-timeskip, and makes it a bit more clear to the player how Edelgard was manipulated. As Hubert's note points out how to free Rhea, she joins as a full character, and survives the route by default, though she may still go into exile.

    I understand Edelgard but there are other ways. Other ways that don’t Involve All out war with everyone.
    *(Spoilers. You have been warned.)*
    I agree, What Rhea did was wrong but in the church route she regrets them, i can get behind that. As long as she regrets what she’s done i’m fine. She’s child missing her mother, i mean who wouldn’t? Rhea maybe be a broken Wreck beyond repair but, i know she has a good heart. In way, she’s like Edelgard, heart in the right place but chose the wrong path.
    Had this been in an AU (Alternate Universe) and i was Byleth, i would’ve asked Edelgard her reasons then ask Rhea what she knew. After learning what i needed to know, i would ask Rhea to confess everything to all of Fodlan for the sake of the peace. Sure everyone at Garrag mach would get hate but i think is livable.
    After i would order Edelgard to confess being the flame emperor and tell everyone about those who Slither in the dark. We would muster what troops we have and defeat them. Bringing peace to Fodlan.

Then disrespect claude during his literal death trial and execution. I'll never play her route it embodies everything i disliked about her character.
    Claude and Dimitri uniting together would have so it's a lot of problems. After Dimitri gets therapy. I'll never understand her.

      Rhea isn't really better if you think about it. She almost only acted because of revenge and to bring her mother back. She never really acted for the greater good when it came to it.
      Also you're not walking talking dead mom of Rhea game is clear about how Sothis is another just another person in byleth (you can marry her).

      Edelgard's route lets you spare Claude (which canonically happens in every route), and regardless of whether or not you do, they compliment each other.
      Dimitri is also capable of getting a peaceful death, unlike most instances where he gets himself killed in an unwinnable blood rage.

    • @francisharkins

      Best way to describe Edelgard without playing her route... I would say the song Edge of Dawn helps understand her better as well as her motivations, her supports also give alot more information than anything else about her character. Edelgard is... complex. Very complex and if I had to compare her to any character in Fire Emblem history I would compare her as a cross between Walhart and Xander. Where she believes humanity is stronger without being toyed around with by those in the shadows and that duty and responsibility take precedence before all else. She has alot of baggage and trauma though that twist her actions. Neither her nor Dimitri are purely good people. Especially since the Irony of Edelgard and Dimitri only being abled to be saved in their respective routes. Meanwhile Claude can be saved in all of them.
      I tend to defend Crimson Flower since thats the first route I played. Since I usually go the route of the more complex characters and stories that would normally be seen as bad guys. (For example when I played Fates I played Conquest first... the pain that it was to be so limited on exp and gold.) But I like to get more in depth perspective of those characters and routes so that way when I play other routes scenes tend to be more emotional or you know whats going on or being said with prior context. Tends to make you see the character as less of a heartless villian and more as a person.
      Overall Crimson Flower was a trip and honestly I feel accurate in saying she is pretty much Walhart from Awakening, but in the sense you can actually fight on her side and see the perspective of a character playing the villian who is just a scared fragile girl deep down.
