The one thing I really miss from JC3 was the goofy commentary after a base was liberated. The forced "Voice of Medici" was constantly making up excuses for why huge bases were blowing up and it was not only hysterical but clever. JC4 is just bland to me, nothing really setting it apart.

Red Dead Redemption 2 gets 10. Didn't address any issue, yet game gets 10.
There are problems in that game and they act like it's 10. One of the biggest problem is New Austin and WE were put on restricted after game release.

Say whatever you want: it may be not a masterpiece, but this series is FUN.
It really is, however, it is disappointing they didn’t go for full scale building destruction in JC4. If they made most buildings able to break into pieces, this review would be a 9 because it would be a clear major new feature that leans into the fact that these are unofficial mercenaries games anyway.

I didn't really like it at first, but after playing it for a couple hours I'm pretty hooked on it. At first I was bored but now I find myself addicted to the constant chaos, explosions, and the fact that it's easy enough to not die that I don't get frustrated all the time. The AI can be pretty entertaining too.

I'm not even sure how to ask this, but do you feel that there's been an increasingly negative perception of IGN over the years? And if so, how do you go about trying to correct it? Is it even possible?
Maybe I just spend too much time on the wrong forums lol, but I feel like there's this constant stream of disdain for you guys at IGN as well as other big outlets. I don't always agree with what things said on IGN, but I don't think all the hate coming your way is fair either.
How do you cope? Is it actually not that bad and I just spend too much time in these echo chambers? lol

When you're the most popular site, there's always going to be a group that hates you no matter what. And when you have a huge audience in the millions, that group can get pretty loud, even if they're a tiny minority.
I find that many of the most vocal anti-IGN people almost never actually look at the site. They just see a blooper reel of whatever mistakes we make getting passed around and assume everything is like that.

Am I the only one who agrees with them? The mechanic felt kinda bland and pointless, sth like the enemy taking back areas, literally an actual moving front, would've been interesting, otherwise they should've just sticked with JC3's way of having to blow objectives up instead of having to fight an endless wave of vehicles (as infantry doesn't even count) for an eternity until you unlock enough imaginative troops to advance into that region to unlock it

I played just cause 2 for the first time a couple years ago, the first mission got me hooked. Jumping out of a helicopter chasing after a falling body at thousands of feet in the air. I won’t ever forget that

Part of me feels they did just cause 4 as a just cause 3.5 to make up for 3s lackluster feeling. I'm hoping 5 can ramp things ups to 100 and bring back the silliness and interesting missions as seen in jc 2 , especially with more power next gen consoles will offer.

It's the same game as last time with a different map and story 9.9 or 10 COD, GTA, Assasins creed etc.
This game reminds me of Mercenaries, I miss the games of years gone by...
Kinda reminds me of what would happen if Mercenaries and Just Cause 1 were left unattended in a room without protection!
As soon as i realized this was an IGN review i immediately watched a different review
I definitely like just cause 4’s map more than 3’s. There were more cities that looked way better and idk if it’s just me but I’m so glad they added an airport back which was like my favorite area in just cause 2. It also felt super diverse. Also the driving is way better than jc3
Just Cause 2 is still the best Just Cause game, there was so much silliness and fun to be had, and the map felt like it had distinct locations and places you could go. In jc3 and jc4 everything just feels the same, nothing sticks out like in jc2! And the online multiplayer in jc2 was just way too much fun!
For me the just cause games are more about the in game challenges,and trying to best your best scores/times etc. The actual story mode is something for me to do in between these events. I love everything about the game,and a bit more of the same with a few added environmental upgrades is still a sure fire great game.
"More of the same" is not a bad thing when it comes to Just Cause. It's exactly what I would want. I hate it when a sequel tries to evolve and reinvent the wheel but just wrecks the experience. It's always "come on just do what you did last time but new and shiny". Sounds like that's what they did here...
I agree. I loved the previous just cause and could spend hours just blowing up bases and exploring which I honestly never got tired of
The point is that the jump from JC2 to JC3 was significant while the jump from JC3 to JC4 is... much less so.

I feel IGN reviewed this game as a non Just Cause game, which would ordinarily promise a compelling story or strategic thinking, rather than a absurdly fun sandbox game that gives you tools to expand possibilities and your creativity.

I don't know man. Reviewers/journalists rarely know what they're talking about.
I just combine info from each of them and make my own decision. JC4 is a bit lacking in my opinion.
But it's fun and I've had a few laughs. So that pays for itself.
Days Gone was great. And while I predicted a lot. It was still awesome. That game was at least a 7.5 minimal.

I think it’s fun sometimes to find a battle on ur front line and just see how long u can survive fighting the endless hordes of enemies.
I don't know why nobody has mentioned it but the bike handling is the worst it has ever been in the series. The last "controllable" bike was the Harley Davidson-styled one in JC2...
You can't even go round a gradual curve in the road at traffic speed without either ending up in a head-on crash or spun off the road (into a building/bush/tree, over a cliff, etc.)
I played it, finished the storyline. Cleared the areas. Then, there wasn't much to do after. So I sold it, and went back to playing Just Cause 3.

What I want for the next Just Cause game (if there's gonna be one)
1. More cities with more Skyscrapers
2. Move away from the Tropical setting
3. Even more destructible environment. Kinda like Red Faction level. Would love to blow up houses and buildings.
Pros: graphics, world, gameplay.
Bads: story, short length campaign.
campaign IS medium sized, story is great, gameplay, movement, camera controls, graphics, world building, in short; this is a great game. deserves more than any cod.

I played it yesterday on PC and the performance was majorly improved!! While I had bad hiccups and freezes while playing Just Cause 3 last week (to get myself hyped for 4, you know?), Just Cause 4 runs flawless with about 80FPS on Ultra.
No words on the lusterlack graphics, no words on the horrible cuscenes straight from 2004, no words on the terrible pc control scheme? 10/10 IGN.

I have never played a Just Cause game, but as a HUGE fan of open worlds and being in huge open, beautiful, mysterious worlds, this game has really peaked my interest. Do I need to play the first 3 to understand/enjoy this game? Does the game have a lot of exploration? Is doing missions for the story the main gameplay?

My biggest issue with the game is the driving. It's really bad.
JC4 is a step down from JC3. They both have the same vehicles, boats, planes, etc., yet JC3 has variety. JC3 has throwables, sticky bombs and an assortment of weapons to drop right off the bat, great vehicles in drops right off the bat, and they both have jet tether, retractable, and air tether. JC4 just has directional that is hard to use, JC4 has better graphics. When something is blown up in JC3, it stays blown up if you die. JC4 has one place to beat (even though you pass over many towns) to open a province and move your front line. JC3 has many towns and bases for variety to open a province. A huge thing that JC3 has is DLC. JC3 now comes in a XL expansion pack which comes with the scorpion gun and mechs (which you get instantaneously...no unlocking the first mech), and the mechs are unbelievably fun. The price is on sale on PSN for $9.00 (not a typo)

Red Faction: Guerrilla anyone?
Would be amazing if we could blow up everything, including entire buildings.. even cause avalanches in the snow region and landslides with huge rocks tumbling down.
Still gonna play this though..
That would be cool, but the power required for that would be pretty insane. In RF: Guerrilla, the destruction is undeniably impressive, but the buildings are rather small and have relatively simple construction. I think that is how they got the game to run so well on last generation hardware. Crackdown 3's destruction looks unbelievable.
@@DarkSentinel7 CrackDown 3 uses some mumbo jumbo cloud technology, so you have to be online to play it. Its cool tech but I wouldn't want that in a single-player game.
@@gracecalis5421 I never heard about the game needing to be online for the destruction to work, but I could be wrong, the game has been delayed so much that certain details may have left my brain.
@@DarkSentinel7 I could be wrong but basically the destruction in that game is too much for the Xbox itself to process, so instead it uses a cloud service so that the destruction can be computed from another system.
Did you play mercenaries? It was kind of the father of Just Cause. It was an open world loaded with military vehicles, airstrikes, AI battles, and tons of missions. Designed by the battlefront 2 (2005) devs that same year. Every building was destructible and it was amazing. I was also really hoping JC4 would embrace that too.

I got this game for my birthday yesterday. I got some special edition of the game that came with cool weapons and vehicles as well as jet pack for my wingsuit for cheaper than the actual game as it was on a offer. The base liberations and combat is fun as hell. They are unique and interesting. The story itself is lacking but the story missions are decent. It’s a pretty fun game but 3 is still better. I wish I got to finish 3

Who else gets a "Mercenaries" feel when playing JC4? I always thought Far Cry felt like Mercenaries, but JC4 truly feels like it...
Biggest complaint is an open world doesn't force you to use new abilities and items? Nothing is stopping someone from using them SMH
