When i first played this boss I had Super Sonic so I was thinking, '"YES! I'm gonna kill this guy real damn fast and beat the game! I'm unstoppable!!" But then he grabbed me and smashed all the rings out of me... I almost cried and shit bricks.....at the same time...mainly because I listened to the music....
Did you know that "Big Arm" can get rid of Super Sonic if he grab you when you are transform? He slam you into the ground, you lose ALL your rings and turn back to regular Sonic.
I think this happened to me the first time I ever fought this boss as a kid. I remember how you get all overconfident when you defeat the Twin Laser boss just by standing on it. Then suddenly getting kicked back to regular Sonic with no rings because you didn't realise the hands were dangerous was perhaps the biggest _"Oh shit, this game just got serious!"_ moment since the surprise reveal of a Metropolis Zone Act 3 in the previous game. Btw, the darkening sky and the change in music made it the perfect atmosphere for this fight. One strategy guide ever referred to it as "The Nightmare", and I still think that was a fitting title.
I love your funny comment Cybershell. Like the "Fuck you Tails. Get out of here. There's only room for one". I laughed so hard at this moment. Also, the Final Boss of Sonic 3 is quite hard because your jumps must be very precise to avoid to get hit or grabbed. Plus the fact he can smash down Super Sonic if you get grabbed by his hands. I really like this boss. The music when you fight him is epic too.
3:25 When I played Sonic 3 as a kid, I thought Tails drowned there and that's why he wasn't there for the final two bosses and the entirety of Sonic & Knuckles.
I have been wondering why eggman with the spikes on his head and stuff was not in Sonic 3 & Knuckles because I remember fighting him.... SOOOO now I know why! Thanks dude!
If the playing field were level and you never got rings for any final boss fight, the Ball Grabber (aka Squeeze Tag Machine) would be harder than either Robo-Robotnik because his hitbox is so tricky to figure out and he moves so fast
For some reason, I remember the laser thing being more difficult. I dunno...maybe I'm remembering fighting it as Knuckles. He pretty much has more trouble with EVERY boss in these games. Woe be unto he who enters the Death Egg in Sonic 2 as Knuckles.
The credit music was essentially written by Michael Jackson. Listen to Stranger in Moscow. Many songs were written by him in Sonic 3, but he wasn't directly credited since the child molestation charges scared Sega away. You can thank him for inspiring alot of the music found in Sonic 3.
You never mentioned that the Sonic 3 final boss can knock you out of Super Sonic if he grabs you. I tell you, my jaw dropped when that happened to me the first time xD
You're a legend for not going super sonic vs the bosses, you're also the best LP'er I've seen, the rest sound like nerds but you sound like you lay about all day instead.
This Let's Play started ages before Sonic Generations came around and gave that boss a name so the machine was still nameless. Geeze I figured something like this would happen after Generations 3DS gave him a name.
Robotnik: Sonic, prepare to face my greatist creation! THE BALLGRABBER 3000!!!!!! Sonic: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! *Dies from laughing* Robotnik: ...Well, at least hes dead.
the S3 credits music is composed by Michael Jackson and is Stranger in Moscow which was released a couple of years after s3 slowed down :) loved this end music.
I always play Sonic 3 by itself. Sometimes I play Sonic and Knuckles but just some of the music in Sonic 3 is better, the Sonic 3 levels are made harder; Launch Base in particular has a lot more obstacles. The last boss of course is the biggest reason. I like the simplicity of Sonic 3 also. Sometimes when I use Hyper Sonic I get that gross taste in my mouth that you get when you spend all day using cheats in a video game.
Now that I think about it you make a great point and I wish they had left that Sonic 3 boss in S3&K's Sonic story as well, but maybe not when you play as Tails since he has no insta-shield and he only has a Super form which means he'd get hurt by that boss with even all the Super Emeralds, but actually if they had left him in I wouldn't have a problem with Tails following Me there since I'd probably wouldn't mind human co-op help. But I guess they figured Knuckles needed more *2bcont.
Everyone is bitching the last boss' name is Big Arm, well the other bosses' names weren't "Ballshitter the 4th" and "Just Awful, Really", either, so APPEARANTLY he is just naming them as he sees them for the lolz... The theme is kickass tho, IMO
*Continued and sorry for the long comment* Plus if you're that upset there is a ROM hack called Sonic 3 Complete. that makes it and Sonic & Knuckles one complete game, but still retains all the music and level layouts as they were in the stand alone Sonic 3, only it's a ROM hack that makes the game more like it would be if Sonic 3&K had been on one cart (the Big Arm fight is at the end of Launch base and it still goes into the S&K stages, though Mushroom Hill is called Mushroom Valley)
If you get all the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic jumps up into your face as a really shittily-drawn Super Sonic. And you see the title logo of Sonic 3 after the credits like in S3&K, except without Knuckles.
also Knuckles in S3&K fights the S3 Final Boss in a different arena as a regular boss... and its a boss that's actually easier for knuckles (to be different) even though it's my favourite final boss of a sonic game I think it suits S3&K for sonic to not fight him that might sound weird

I like the music for the Big Arm boss fight but I hated doing it with Sonic. I had a hard time clearing his head spikes when I jumped over him. Tails it was easy, I just flew over him lol. Never did it with Knuckles.
*Continued* But I guess they figured Knuckles needed more bosses that were exclusive to him when the games were locked on to each other so they decided he'd be a Knuckles only boss for the lock-on complete adventure, shame really because it would have been fun to get revenge on him as Hyper Sonic since Hyper Knuckles proves that he can hurt a Super form but he can only do a bounce thing to a Hyper form. Really agree he should have been kept in Sonic's story in S3&K though.
*Continued* and as you know the add-ons for the console didn't do very well, so it wasn't just that they wanted the game out quickly but because the only way to have the complete game as it was intended to be played and still keep it on the main Genesis/Megadrive console cartridge was to split the game in two and use the lock-on technology. Plus if you're that upset there is a ROM hack called Sonic 3 Complete that makes it and Sonic & Knuckles one complete game *2bcont.*
It’s not called the Ball Grabber 3000. It’s called the Big Arm. I don’t blame you for not knowing, since Sonic Generations wasn’t out when this LP was made haha
@BloodBird01 Yeah but the finished product was very well worth buying at full price, plus if I recall at one point they were even just giving away Sonic & Knuckles (the lock on cartridge) away free with the Sega Genesis (Megadrive) during a certain period of time because I remember that it was the game that came free with the Sega Genesis I got for Christmas as a kid (I never had Sonic 3 but I did eventually play S3&K later on in My life) at least Sonic 3 and S&K were worth playing the *2bcnt.

Fun fact everyone probably knows by now: the Sonic 3 ending music was made by Michael Jackson and resembles the "Stranger in Moscow"
The sonic 3 final boss is called big arm. He has the unique ability to harm super sonic with his grab smash move.
Harming Super Sonicis not intentional. Normally he would bounce off the ground like Super Knuckles does if he gets grabbed by Big Arm.
@@A_Different_Name that only happens if youre hyper. If youre super he can intentionally hurt you.

Compare it to stranger in moscow, they use the same chord progression
That's because it is. Michael Jackson's composer team did the music for this game.
