This u-turn in Perry’s character reduced the quality of the plot significantly. He used to be extremely sensitive and empathetic, and loyal. The type who would tell you upfront he is done with you as opposed to be ambiguous and trying to manipulate Brenda into quitting the relationship first in order to avoid any responsibility
I believe Aaron Spelling has said that he planned on Dylan ending up with Brenda, and Kelly ending up with Brandon, but Shannen and Jason didn't want to come back.

As much as i hate to admit this, Dylan & Kelly would never have messed around behind Brenda`s back like this if it weren`t for them having deeper feelings for each other.
That proves everything. When you love someone that intensely especially at that age. You say don’t plan your life around me when that love is fading. A year before during the song losing my religion Dylan broke down when Brenda broke up with him. Things are different now he’s done with her and all about his soulmate.
Dylan does seem he wants to break up, but doesn't exactly want to pull the trigger. He was not ready to hurt Brenda yet which was completely understandable it only delayed the inevitably. I should be upset, but I'm not.😮
I am team Brenda and Dylan but this whole storyline was very intriguing at the time watching it. I understand why his relationship with Brenda imploded it was just so intense so fast it had nowhere to go but down. Brenda showing up at Dylan's doorstep was the wrong move and a lot of Brenda's lying to her own parents created this whole situation in the first place. Jim Walsh handling Dylan's money complicated matters even more it just became too much.
Dylan and Kelly were both flawed characters in toxic parental relationships. They found solace with each other. Brenda was the impetus in development for both of them. Each had decision to make at this critical point fir enduring friendship and maturity it self satisfaction. In the real world Kelly snd Dylan would have suffered more repercussions showing how frail there people were.
I know they remade this show, but a dylan, brenda, thruple what makes sense right now and one of them would probably be in some sort of transition / lesbian or LGBT QUURZ... LMNOP... OOPS ALREADY SAID L.. the other letters are getting jealous... Why don't we just put A to Z ... Skip all the monikers.
