Thanks Tom for honoring my first QSO with recording it and acknowledging it on video. That's awesome. So glad I caught you on the first day of hunting. Unfortunately, my QCX has stopped working so I'll have to figure out my audio out issues before I can get back on for my next hunt. Hopefully I can get some help from QRP Labs to help me troubleshoot the issue and get it fixed. Again, thanks for QSO, and thank you for all the great content that encourages new hams like me to get on the air. God bless!
Good to see you back to doing POTA. You definitely deserved a much needed POTA therapy session after all the stress Helene has put you and your family through!
Glad to see you out doing POTA after what happened. Glad to know you, and the family are okay. I share your LOVE OF THAT RADIO! I haven't had a successful activation with it yet, but will soon. I have been using it from home (hunting others), and that radio is phenomenal! I'm so glad I had a chance to procure one before he closed up shop.
I have to say, this is one of three radios I always carry for portable work. The others are a KX3 and a QDX. The developer of the Penntek told me he wanted a radio that suited 90% of the needs for 90% of CW operators. He really hit it right on the money. Were I to design (capable of designing) such a radio I would have made it 60-15m instead of 80-17m but 30, 20, & 17m are still the money bands for portable work, at least IMHO. 72 Chas - NK8O
Tom, I can see why you like that radio so much. It has a really nice speaker and your cw tone is so clear. I’m so glad that you and your family are safe. Good to hear you back on again. Oh, I bought an MC 750 all because of you. 72 my friend. KA6VVD.
Glad to hear you’re okay Thomas 🙏🏼 I was in Asheville on vacation in NC just days before it hit..such devastation and loss😢 Hope your town recovers quickly all the best 73 Geoff VK3GBE
Glad to see you back and to have an unexpected opening for some POTA. I just did my first activation this weekend and made about 118 qso between two days (3 activations). Mostly FT8 with my iPhone and some SSB P2P hunting. (Still working on CW proficiency). It was a good experience. Used a 10-40m EFHW and a throw line. Really sucked when practicing try to throw one handed. Aim was always off. Surprised how much better I was doing a pengelum backwards between the legs. When I went to put my line up in the trees this weekend I nailed it on the first attempt and got 40-50 feet up. Thanks for the inspiration to rediscover radio in a new and exciting way. 73 N3MBH.
Yes, how could you mess up that W, I wonder, as my coprehention of morce code is still on pair with the three stooges 🤣 Great to see you on the air again 🎉
When you work the ?7CCD Station in Washington the phrase coast to coast comes to mine. This reminds me of the late night radio show on AM radio hosted by. Another ham. Aft Bell W6OBB (SK) I listen to him on the a.m. radio on long drives in the panhandle of Texas on my way from Oklahoma back to Amarillo. He would often get on HF phone after doing his radio show on the broadcast band.
So, good to see you back. I saw the ham alert for this activation, but was too busy to try and work you. Hope to work you again soon! 72/73 Michael-KE4EST
Hello Thomas, thanks for the video. We are just to the west and south of you in SE Tennessee. So glad you are ok over there, and sorry that so many had a very rough time. Often I see POTA activators in NC, but, their/my signal seems to “skip over”. All the best, KQ4IXD

So glad you are back on the air. Been praying for all those affected in your area.
Just as the first robin brings hope for the Spring, Thomas’s first POTA activation brings hope for recovery.
Hey Thomas, I am so glad you and your family made it out safely from hurricane Helene! Keep up the great work! 73, Heath N4TWT
Definitely understand recovery. Living on East coast the hurricane season is a real pain. Matthew and Florence put us on an island for about 4 weeks.
Glad you guys did ok in the storm
