As a Sega kid growing up I feel bad for Sega. Tom Kalinske didn't want to rush the Saturn out. It was the idiotic board over in Japan that refused to listen to reason. Sega could have partnered with Sony and HAD the PS1. Kalinske could've been the man saying this epic line. But nope. They could've had the N64's graphics chipset. SoJ said "NOPE". They "NOPE"'d all over the Saturn until it had no chance, then tried again with the Dreamcast only to discover, to their tragedy, they were too late. They were one of Gaming's major players too. They had consoles even in 1983, the SG-1000. They were Nintendo's enemy from Day 1. Kalinske tried, but the board was too convinced that Sega was going to erupt into flames any moment and be swallowed into the center of the earth because of Kalinske rather than realizing it was their dumb asses that were doing it instead. Allowing Sony to not make the same mistakes. RIP Oldschool Sega. 1984 - 2001. Rather, Sega just took a katana sword and stabbed itself to death while Nintendo & Sony just watched.

Oh how Nintendo could turn the tables with the Switch 2 reveal soon
Nintendo has the opportunity to do the funniest thing if they announce the price of the Switch 2 like this
But i mean... the Switch 2 will be an inferior system in every way. Meanwhile the original Playstation was way superior than the Sega Saturn and still at a lower price.
Not the same situation

Heard about the price of ps5 pro. so i came back here for nostalgia.😂
The dislikes came from people who worked at SEGA
Listen to that audience cheering
Sounds like the death knell for sega
RIP American Sega, precursor to Oldschool Sega. 1960 - 1984
RIP Service Games, the precursor to American Sega. 1940 - 1960
May you rest in peace, sweet prince. The memories I had with you are still in my mind. Sega today is basically just a logo and a name now, it's just not the same anymore. Sony isn't the murderer though. Rather, Sega just took a katana sword and stabbed itself to death while Nintendo & Sony just watched.
Exactly. I felt so bad for Tom while listening to the audiobook version of "Console Wars" which pretty much focused on sega of america's story during its rise and fall of the 90's. When sony announced the price here Tom was in the back of the room and turned to one of his co-workers and said "Oh shit". He had a feeling from the start the Saturn was not going to do well. Begging of the end :(
Kalinske was a dickhead for encouraging SGI to partner with Nintendo just to spite Sega of Japan.
Lamarr Dijey sega of Japan rejected SGI’s offer so Kalinske told them to work with another company he didn’t say Nintendo
This is a good read. Thank you. I am a Sega boy (now a man) back then and its sad the Tom Kalinske did everything he can to make things right again. I agree with you of how Sega of Japan destroyed themselves.
Borrowing from Vnce Mcmahon's own words.
Sony did not screw Sega. Sega screwed Sega.
I think Sega Japan just wasn't happy that a dirty gaijin was able to make Sega profitable on an impulse
How the tables have turned.
they have gone a long way....800 euros
29 years later :
Sony- "$799"
Also Sony: No discs.

“Brief presentation” bro wasn’t kidding!
I just imagine that those papers he has simply say "299" over and over again to remind him of the winning numbers.
3 words, 3 numbers... changed decades of the story of videogames forever.
update: it's $699 now
Gaming Historian’s “Sega’s 3 Biggest Mistakes” brought me here!
That was the coolest way a company has announced a console
Remember, Sony pulled this off when Nintendo was king of consoles
Well well well, how the turntables
