I'been producing and mixing since the nineties and OMG THESE WORK AMAZING. Just make it sound as good as you can in those rooms, then bypass and be BLOWN AWAY by the mix you've just made.
I feel like these would be a valuable asset for me and my mix room. I've treated it the best I can, but it's not 100% perfect and it does stunt my mixes a bit. So having these for full on mixing or even just referencing would probably help me a lot.
I bought the founders edition when they came out. Yes they eventually broke. After a year or so. They were replaced no questions asked asap. I’ve seen there’s even a newer 3rd design. So the second version didn’t totally fix the issue. But I have do doubt they’ll get it sorted. And if you have problems, they’ll take care of you. Because the first time I listened to one of my mixes, my jaw dropped. It was horrible. I could hear all the flaws I could only hear in my car and other systems. I was sold. It didn’t turn me into a pro mixer, but my mixes translate so much better.
Should I mix with these headphones as I produce my song? or wait until my song is finished and then begin mixing from scratch with these headphones on? Thanks.
im listening through my VSX that i JUST GOT, (wanted to see a different perspective from someone professional on this) and wow, I really do agree the spacial difference, that makes it seem that ure really in a studio speaker environment is crazy.
Great review!! I've also watched your review on Sonarworks Sound ID, and I'm curious if you use both VSX & Sound ID or if you prefer one or the other? How does the Sound ID translation check rooms compare with the VSX spaces?
I've been wanting to try these but I've heard nothing but bad things about build quality. These apparently fall apart even on new revisions. Care to do a long term update?
I‘ve had mine replaced 2 times and it for sure is a bummer that they always seem to break after some time. But they always replace them without and questions asked
I have mixed feelings about Slate VSX. The bass in the emulations seems to be totally overpowering (in the reference tracks, not mine). It may sounds cool and exciting, but I can't believe that studio monitors have such an overly bassy sound in recording studios. In addition, the speaker balance within a given simulation seems strange, because when switching from small near-field speakers that can sound as if they somehow had sub-bass, we suddenly get even more bass. Totally weird thing. In the meantime, out of curiosity, I checked Realphones 2.0, which I was skeptical about, especially after spending a lot of money on VSX, but I must say that after listening to their emulations, it sounds much more realistic. I recommend checking it out. After a long time of comparing Slate VSX vs Realphones vs my KRK 5, I'm considering returning the VSX.
So when you have the plug-in enabled it changes your mix and you can export it with that sound. Or is just letting you know how is going to sound of played on other devices?
They kinda already are a thing, if mostly for Convolution Reverb purposes....that being said if one could load a Room IR and have this, that would be wild
Yeah this is already a thing. UAD has Capitol chambers, Hitsville, ocean way and even dreamverb lets you create the room's shape, size and material. Its super sick
In Anticipation of receiving these this week 2-20-2024 the 2nd thing Slate Heavily recommends is to NOT switch from listening Environments. At least your Video is not 3 years old and the Version "4" now out I recommend a immediate Follow Up ! Thanks
Heyy Fluff, I'm sure you've answered this but I'm curious. Weren't you formerly a Studio One user? I remember you did a video on it and seemed to love it
Fluff I really think you didn’t go in deep enough on the “breakage” issue Slate has had with these. New revisions break just like early modes! I’ve seen people break first pair and then replacements break also. This is one of the worst QC issues I’ve seen in a professional audio product
Question for anyone that could help me... I have three tools that i use on my 2 bus 1. Slate vsx 2. Sonarworks 3. Good hertz canopener In what order should I put them? I'm thinking 1. Canopener 2. Vsx 3. Sonarworks Can someone confirm if this order is correct? Or should I put vsx first? 1. Vsx 2. Canopener 3. Sonarworks ??? Any help is greatly appreciated
I think I might prefer getting the Neumann headphones over these. I would not be making mix decisions based on DSP. I have a pair of Bose QC35 (gen1) and their DSP definitely removes some distortion from bass which I found interesting but it didn’t translate well to other listening environments.
Am I the only one who thinks there's too much (unnatural) flange in the modeling mix? I know they say you gotta get used to it, but I'm not really digging it so far. It sounds more like a flange than room ambiance. And not in a good way.
Well I go dark towards the end of the video but you can still hear me. Thanks RUclips.
Channel ruined. Will never be able to watch again
I thought my phone freaked out and went dark lmao
I know what happened 🤣

Hey Fluff, so after a year, are you still mixing on your HD650 or VSX?
Thanks!
10:43 Where'd you go? lol
Just what I was wondering lol
Got them last year. Love'em. Great piece of gear.
@Addyction I thinking about getting these, have you had any problem with breakage on the head phones? Thanks
@@mixc8 No issues for me. Worth noting though that I don't use them all the time. More like 1-2 times a week for a couple of hours.
Should I mix with these headphones as I produce my song? or wait until my song is finished and then begin mixing from scratch with these headphones on? Thanks.

Nice Video, but earch setting sounds like it was just Equalized different...am i wrong?
One of my best gear purchases this year.

Very good question and I'm wondering that as well. So unfortunate he didn't reply this yet.
need the reply too
So. Are we mixing out included with plugin or not? If we think about ARC.
Question - basically it's for checking your mix? Do you turn the VSX off when you are ready to drop the mix or leave it on?
take it off
Man... that snare ! Wowowowowowow !

thats disappointing. there would something else out there that does a similar job for sure.

Great review. Your videos are amazing. What camera are you using?
💯I like this Christmas metal track💪🏾
So when you have the plug-in enabled it changes your mix and you can export it with that sound. Or is just letting you know how is going to sound of played on other devices?
I believe it just lets you hear how it’s going to sound, then you mix/adjust as needed.
Archon midfield room is one of my favorite!
Any idea which model you got? 2200s or 2300s and where did you purchase them?
Dude please stop using your Christmas song to test things 😅 kills me to listen outside of December.
So it’s just reference doesn’t change the sound to that environment if you like it ?
What is the impact on cpu? Acustica audio is great but heavy impact on cpu
Would you recommend these for "General use"? I am not interested in using these for mixing.
Would it be accurate to say that VSX is mostly a fancy eq with presets of different spaces?
No. Not at all. It is literally like listening on speakers in particular rooms
This is a good record. Is it available?
Nice style. I bought them. They sound great ... thanks.
Only a matter of time til room IRs, that’s cool as fuck. I’ve always wondered about this technological prospect, really neat reference tool
They kinda already are a thing, if mostly for Convolution Reverb purposes....that being said if one could load a Room IR and have this, that would be wild

Your voice reminds me of Bert Kreisher lol I can't can't the only one! Haha
I got my pair coming in gonna be great for the environment I'm in.
Dang he sounds exaactly like berg 😂
100%
Hey, Fluff. Can you test the brand new Boss effect processor gx-100 ?
Thanks for the review. You look heavier than Dragged Under sounds btw.
Would you reccomend these over sennheiser 650s? They 20$ a month rn
Is this the same as sonarworks sound id? I already use sonarworks reference to flatten my monitors in my room. Can you use them in tandem?

Heyy Fluff, I'm sure you've answered this but I'm curious. Weren't you formerly a Studio One user? I remember you did a video on it and seemed to love it
i think i would use this plugin to place stereo elements in a lil spacier environments, though i'd have to buy the headphones for this... hmmm
I wouldn't use it as a mix effect.
Just learn to set up your soundstage with pans, verbs, transient shapers and shelves etc
Fluff, is that plug-in only available specifically for those headphones?
I'm not Fluff, but that's correct
if you are asking if you have to have those headphones to use that plugin then no. it is a stand alone plugin.
The point is that the models are tuned to those specific headphones. Otherwise, how would any of this work?
Fluff I really think you didn’t go in deep enough on the “breakage” issue Slate has had with these. New revisions break just like early modes! I’ve seen people break first pair and then replacements break also. This is one of the worst QC issues I’ve seen in a professional audio product
Yeah that and there slate mic to .. Had three mic duds from slate, horrible qc
"Professional audio product" that made chuckle a bit, more like professional overpriced piece of post digestive waste
Question for anyone that could help me... I have three tools that i use on my 2 bus
1. Slate vsx
2. Sonarworks
3. Good hertz canopener
In what order should I put them?
I'm thinking
1. Canopener
2. Vsx
3. Sonarworks
Can someone confirm if this order is correct? Or should I put vsx first?
1. Vsx
2. Canopener
3. Sonarworks
???
Any help is greatly appreciated
1. VSX
2. Sonarworks
3. Canopener
That allows you to use Canopener with the both VSX and Sonarworks headphone emulations.
Thank You.

Are you saying put on my vsx now?
Great video!!
bug at 10:43... Very interesting video by the way.
The video goes to black around 10:40.
Keep the video you have good views too. Good review thanks
The vocals are so much in front in the second one
A good review
Idk. I’m always suspicious on modeling things. I’ll have to give them a whirl personally before I buy into the hype
Cool!
The down side about mixing on phones is that you have no idea about the cross-talk.
But I really like to keep the phones...
Use can opener
@@ST-fl5fy I wish you the best!
Awesome
Gimmick. Haha the old "enter your serial number" con is like "put the crystals in" the time machine. Ooh ooh! Serial number...how official! :O

I don’t need to spend this money dammit
I have the original monster beats studio by beats headphones in orange they are pretty good they take two triple As

Anyone else on google chrome see the video goes black from 10:44 to 12:07?
Yep RUclips biffed the upload. It happens.

Did it sound convincing, like you are sitting in a room?
I’m getting these lol
Couldn't have picked a better song................

Wow that song is horrible 😢
