If you want to get rid of slop in both directions on the hitch mount, cut your "anti wobble" 45 on the diamond rather than on the square of the tube, if that makes sense to you, that way when you tighten it up it will push up and to the side, taking car of both directional wobbles at the same time. Nice build

👍👍 I've checked out several swing out build videos on U Tube and this one is the best. I really appreciate your straight forward common sense approach to fabrication and careful explanations.

Nice design. Another option for the pin lock would be to NOT have the slot. That way when you unlock and start swinging it the pin would ride on the metal piece until the carrier is fully open and then the pin would drop into the lock open hole. Same thing when closing it. Just a thought.

Very well thought out. I'm just finishing up building a CO rear bumper with a swing out. I wish I'd watched this first. I didn't know anti spatter existed. I had drug my rear bumper a few too many times and wanted to have a more robust bumper on my 5th gen 4Runner.

Wow! Killer job! Two things that stand out to me that might be improvable without too much effort. The bolt for the anti wobble accessible from the front so we don't need to go under the truck and the providing a latch that has a tethered pin to lock it in so it can't pop open on it's own. Maybe a better handle already on it as well? I'll contact you this week with a couple questions then I'll get the kit from you. Thanks again for the excellent video series!

Great stuff as always! Curious if you have a tongue/tow rating on your aux hitch receiver? It looks sturdy enough to say, tow a car trailer and a miata (so maybe 3.5k lbs max?) but would like your opinion.
EDIT1: I just read the disclaimer on your website regarding unable to give a rating, am wondering if you can still give an expert opinion still, thank you!

  • @armedappalachian

Ideas for building this without the auxiliary hitch? That area looks a little busy and i wouldn't need to use it.
I have a truck and plan to add an extra offset hitch to the passenger side about 8-10" off center, so I can still use the main hitch to tow heavier trailers while having the spare. Added bonus of using shorter arms for the swing portion than if I went with the center mounted hotch location.
