- With Kel’Thuzad’s success in Lordaeron, the Lich King made the final preparations for his assault against human civilization. Placing his plague energies into a number of portable artifacts called plague cauldrons, Ner’zhul ordered Kel’Thuzad to transport the cauldrons to Lordaeron where they would be hidden within various cult-controlled villages. The cauldrons, protected by the loyal cultists, would then act as plague generators, sending the plague seeping out across the unsuspecting farmlands and cities of northern Lordaeron.
The Lich King’s plan worked perfectly. Many of Lordaeron’s northern villages were contaminated almost immediately. Just as in Northrend, the citizens who contracted the plague died and arose as the Lich King’s willing slaves. The cultists under Kel’Thuzad were eager to die and be raised again in their dark lord’s service. They exulted in the prospect of immortality through undeath. As the plague spread, more and more feral zombies arose in the northlands. Kel’Thuzad looked upon the Lich King’s growing army and named it the Scourge - for soon, it would march upon the gates of Lordaeron… and scour humanity from the face of the world.
Though the Dreadlords were pleased that Ner’zhul’s true mission had finally begun, the Lich King himself brooded within the tight, shadowy confines of the Frozen Throne. Despite his vast psychic powers and his complete dominion over the undead, he longed to be free of his icy prison. He knew that Kil’jaeden would never release him from his curse. And, due to his great power, he knew that the demons would destroy him as soon as his mission was completed.
Still, he had one chance for freedom - one chance to escape his terrible curse. If he could find a suitable host - some hapless dupe who was torn between darkness and light - he could possess that body and escape the confines of the Frozen Throne forever.
Thus, the Lich King sent his vast consciousness out once again and sought out the perfect host…

I’m a huge fan of the scourge. I was playing this the other day whilst doing some math stuff and I swear that at some point I felt like a ghoul was going to grab me by the back. Brilliant soundtrack, truly embodies the scourge. Great job old blizzard for creating such a masterpiece on all levels. Long live the Lich King

Scourge felt like a huge unstoppable army which strikes really quickly ( death knight movement speed aura ) and vanishes. leaving only death and destruction in its wake.
I used to love necro wagon strat because I could get around 100 skeletons , with necromancers as ranged support and wagons to destroy the buildings. It was so fun zerging anybody who didn't have a dispel. I would beat the army with superior numbers then kill their workers In one go. good old times. Now everybody and their mother has a dispel to counter this strat 😂😂

Back when the Warcraft World was awesome and mysterious, now every mystery is so in your face explained, and badly so (Shadowlands, ancient Draenei Civilization... weird time travel)

When gyms were closed back in 2021 I would workout at home to this video. Always got distracted by the visuals hahahah, always wanted to download the game again and play the damn campaign for probably the 10th time in my life...
Now that Blizzard finally introduced official ladder to the game, I downloaded it again and I am having a blast. I love this 20 year old game. I love the memories it holds and how I discover something new each time I replay it again. 2003-2009 was peak Blizz

I bought reforged but I am not playing with the reforged graphics (you can toggle this option on and off in the options). What kinda sucks is that the game has frequent FPS drops/lag spikes even on mid-range decent PCs. I tested it on mine + on my brother's PC (GTX 1060 and GTX 1050) and the same issue would occur. I don't really mind it due to the nostalgia goggles I am wearing, I suppose, however back in 2005 this game would not fps drop at all even on shittiest family PC. 😅

btw Undead isn't a class, it's a race. And the Scourge is a faction. Death Knight is a class. Learn at least the game's vocabulary bases.

I'm curious why they changed some "ambience details". It seems like some of them are the same and some of them are not after recent updates. I don't how it will sound in Reforged but for example sounds of dogs barking in city ambience (like Dalaran) were different in older versions of the game. Outside music of Warcraft III (while listening to those tracks I have very weird nostalgic feelings) there are a lot of different ambient sounds (Ashenvale, Northrend, Dalaran, Lordaeron, etc.) Those are also in it's own way weird and interesting to listen - like in WoW.
Im playing as a Undead on Classic. This ambience is still better then the Tirisfal. Cheers!

I never understood why Arthas face turned grey
Because Frostmourne claimed his soul, which also turned him into an undead. Undead human, precisely, which means he's still keeping his human look, body, shape or appearance, pretty much like the acolytes and necromancers (like Kel'Thuzad himself was as well, in the game's beginning, until he gets killed, turned into a ghost, and then his ashes have been put into the Sun Well, which turned him into a lich, and which is fully undead) do too (and like standard death knights in the game, of course), but his mind is a full undead one.
Go to morgue and look on death bodies color.
It turned gray and not grey tho. Undead lose color and turn gray. Like bones

After the Orcs, the undead have the 2nd best music (Humands/Elves both have the most boring/meh of the 4).
It really invoques the feeling that you're playing as a colossal plague that slowly expands everywhere
