my school's gotten a new engineering teacher who's really good at CAD and my physics teacher has a miniature art club, so painting figurines and I told them both about their clubs and now we're gonna design and print the models for them. This videos made it easy to see the process and just generally get a better sense. thank you and sorry for my English
I have experimented w/ Blender on and off for years. I'm just a few videos in and have learned more about both how to use Blender and how it works than I have from years of on and off experiments. This method of sculpting mirrors how I learned to sculpt in "real life" - starting with an armature and adding to it, focusing on getting the big things right before rendering the small ones. Thanks for this incredible series.
I think it would be interesting to do something different from others to make video tutorials starting from the basics of sculpture, explaining well the various steps how to make a man and woman figure and then slowly introduce for example how to make various types of shoes, clothes, armor, hats, weapons etc. now on the patreons we only see miniatures sold while this would be an opportunity for each of us to learn from scratch and finally make miniatures there are things to explain for all this you would gladly have my contribution but I also think of many others
I didn't like this workflow when I first saw it but I gave it a try and damn, I was completely wrong. This way produces much more dynamic poses. Thanks for sharing man!
WOW, this would've been much easier than what I did on my first ever sculpted mini :D Didn't pose anything, just started off creating the character right away and tried to pose them later. This is cool. Might do another miniature in the future, so this was very helpful, thank you
Great to hear you took something positive from this, stay tuned for part two and hopefully there will be more tips you can apply to your next project ^^
@@MWSculpts Had a pop at this last night, I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of your content and your instructions are clear and concise, though I can't say my results are as good as yours 😁 It was very handy to be able to D/L the miniature in its raw state, as having tried a few times to make a rough frame, I've failed to create a satisfactory outline for the armature to attach to, perhaps in the future, this is something you could address for us at the beginning of our 3D/Blender journeys. I look forward to the next part and following along. Do you have a social media platform that maybe we could post our efforts in following your tutorials? Maybe an idea for the expansion of the channel? Anyway thanks again for returning and sharing. Kind regards Woodsman.
Good to hear :). Keep persisting you will get there ^^. Yes an intro to sculpting in Blender is a great idea, I will think about how best to do this. Nothing social media wise in place yet unfortunately but something to consider indeed.
This is exactly what I've been looking for but I'm new to sculpting and at the moment feels too fast for me to follow. I will come back once I've learned a bit more sculpting. Love this idea!
Yes I understand, perhaps one day I will do a beginner set up video. If you visit 'SpeedChar' channel his latest video (ruclips.net/video/irWAjPQyYzg/видео.html) could be a great start for you. Once you get started on the tutorials here if you have any questions just let me know and will help where I can. Best of luck ^^.
THIS!!! I've been looking for something like this for awhile now! I've got a few monsters from an old video game I want to make miniatures of and this really helps! Gonna be following these steps! Cheers!
This series is just what i'm looking for but being extremely new to blender, it would've been nice to say what you were applying at each step, or to have the plugin that shows what you are pressing on your keyboard we could follow along a little better or know what a certain function is = for example, when you started resizing the arms, I wasn't sure what you were doing to achieve that
Thanks for the feedback and certainly agree, this being one of my first tutorials you will see in future videos that I am including this. But apologies that it is not on these. As you mentioned being new I wonder if my complete beginners series would be useful for you before getting stuck into this one ruclips.net/video/OYfAHZ8mjCY/видео.html
First, thank you for making this video. I do have some questions: 1. Which build of Blender are you using? 2. Where did you get the beginning body frame? 3. What... controls are you using? Is there an introductory video to learn the controls?
Hey I think this was 2.93 if I'm not mistaken. You can grab the beginning armature file on my gumroad here mwsculpts.gumroad.com/. But if you're new to this my complete beginners series could help ruclips.net/video/OYfAHZ8mjCY/видео.html
Just downloaded that free base. Thanks alot really appreciate thay was actually looking for one and could not find one and stumbled across your video. Once I get my printer I'm gonna get more of your fantastic files and hopefully leave something decent in return for you. Would love to see a video on how you got from the absolute beginner model, to this version of the base. Thanks again.
Great to hear it has been useful for you 🙂. Hmm good point, while doing the beginners series I ended up sticking to using the mouse as I thought most complete beginners would only have that. Perhaps there needs to be a vid introducing the benefits of using a tablet to get more control while shaping the objects..
@@MWSculpts for some reason after opening the base file to follow along with the wood elf ranger, it wouldn't allow me to sculpt the cylinder to create the tree base. Or any other objects besides that base file I think. Any ideas as to why this might happen?
If you remesh (control+r) while in sculpt mode on one of these objects then there will be more geometry to pull and twist the mesh. If you watched the complete beginners series it is like when trying to change the neck cylinder in part two. Let me know how you get on ^^
Great instruction! though i am still very new to blender so i didn't understand a lot of what was being done after the posing was finished with the different tools.
Cheers! Yes I will agree this is not a beginner friendly series. If you have not already give this a watch ruclips.net/video/OYfAHZ8mjCY/видео.html. Hopefully this can be a better introduction for you 🙂
Enticing video. I had to try it. I made a cylinder, and used the snake hook tool, but I didn't not have this outcome of the bendy tree. Any ideas? Also can you tell me how to load in the Pies please? thanks again.
Glad you are giving it a shot Russ 😊. While in sculpt mode on the object use shift+r to set the mesh size, then hit control+r to remesh the object. Then you can use snake hook! Check the second image of the listing there are installation instructions mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/mw-sculpt-pies
Noob question: I've done some basic tutorials like make a sword. I have uploaded your frame. When I try to sculpt a cylinder, similar to your branch and bow, it is automatically grabbing the edge of the cylinder and not allowing to twist or shape it. I think it is an initial setting issue. I know others have asked this but I can't fix it. I've changed brush size/ strength, and fall off
I think here the solution will be to use the voxel remesher on the cylinder before using the snake hook brush. Then there will be more geometry to bend and twist. Let me know how you get on :).
I have the same problem here but I have used the voxel remesher. I may have done smt wrong :( Let me know if you had any fix or solution Edit : Ok I think I have it. If you scale the cylinder in object mode it don't work proprely afterward so be sure to resize it while being in scuplt mode. (And yea it's showed in the video so it's pretty dumb x) )
Thanks for this great resource. One question: What is happening at 6:05-6:08, where it looks like you're using the inflate sculpt brush to inflate/scale-up the mesh without the brush actually touching the mesh? I'm not able to find any way to reproduce this.
Hey glad you are enjoying the series :). This is called the 'Mesh Filter' brush and it allows you to apply various effects globally to your mesh docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/sculpt_paint/sculpting/tools/mesh_filter.html. So once you have it set to 'Smooth' you can drag on the viewport to increase/decrease the effect.
Hello there, good to see another video... looking forward to the rest of this series. One quick question, likely for the final video rather than this one. Its about poly (or face) counts on the working and final mini. Having ecently stared down my mini creattion journey... one thing I can't really find any info on is how many faces are needed at various stages. You mention working in low resolution, but what is that for a miniature, vs high resolution? Watching sculpting videos in general, low resolution could still run a million faces depending what you're sculpting. I guess thats not the case here... Thanks again, definitely looking forward to more videos... :)
Good question Neil, I believe the scene in Blender is in meters by default, so when you voxel remesh at 1, each voxel will be about 1m in size. I have my scene set up in mm, therefore when I remesh to 1 each voxel will be 1mm. So usually I will remesh to 0.6 at first, moving to 0.3, then 0.15, then 0.08 and even down to 0.05. However you we to consider what size the printed object will be as to whether the voxel size will be noticable. So for example if you have made a 32mm miniature and remesh down to about 0.08 or even 0.15 in my experience with a 2k resolution printer such as the Voxelab Proxima you cant notice those voxels. However once we move onto 4k such as the revered sonic mini there will need to be a slightly higher resolution I expect. I hope this clears things up for you and you have got my cogs turning on how I can explain this to others in a future video ^^.
Hey I have a few shortcuts set up, you can also use ctrl+tab to use a pie menu, this video will explain it better ruclips.net/video/L5Oa3SLt6cA/видео.htmlsi=Hrp89SVSXAZAxtmP
Hey, Very new to blender here ,started this week. What is going on at 3:52 forward? you seem to be in both edit, and sculpt mode at the same time, and you are able to very quickly move between objects, as well as scale them in sculpt mode (?). Any ideas where to go to be able to learn these functions, because I for sure fell of the wagon here 😅
Hey good to hear your giving it a go 🙂. So there is a shortcut (alt+q) by default which lets you switch between objects you have your cursor over. Then while in sculpt mode you should be able to hit the s key to scale, if this doesn't work check the tool menu (t) and you will find the scale brush here in sculpt mode
Good question, I would think it depends. Your printers xy resolution, exposure time and resin will all affect this. I would recomend just printing something you have created and you will soon get a feel for what comes out and what doesn't. It will depend on how deep you go in defining your details too. You could print the ameralabs town, measure the smallest detail that appears. Then in blender, in object mode there is the measure tool, this would give you a great idea.
You said you would post the pie menu and Armature template, i tried looking on your pages and couldnt find these resources. Could you point me towards these? Thanks you so much!
Hey yes in the description there is a link to my gumroad where you can get all the resources. Here is the armature mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/ONKTk and here is the latest sculpt pies addon mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/mw-sculpt-pies-2?layout=profile and here's the video going over it and installation instructions ruclips.net/video/VmAubDs9GXw/видео.htmlsi=H_sYqrRo2t7c8Ywe Best of luck with your creations 😊
Hey so I would look at this a bit differently as the resolution is all relative to the scale you are working at and the size of the specific object. What I do now is use the remesh grid (hit r then ctrl+r to apply) and just make the mesh a resolution that is low enough to make big changes. From there you can always increase the resolution to add more detail
Hi! Great Video! How were you able to scale the inserted sphere midsection independent of the rest of the armature. When I try to scale that inserted sphere around the midsection, it scales the entire armature. Thanks for the help!
Thanks 👍. If you go into sculpt mode and hit 's' key you will be able to scale just that object. In object mode the object is likely parented to others in the armature which is why it is scaling other objects.
Been following along and its really great work thank you. One question though. I'm stuck where you begin making the bow. I keep adjusting the mesh and attempting to make the ends pointed like you do but when I use the snake hook on the cylinder it doesn't seem to move even close to the way yours does. I realized you turned on the symmetry but beyond that I can't figure out what you are doing different. Help please!
If you install my add-on from the gumroad, you will be able to use the remesh pie, this will give you more geometry to work with to bend and twist the mesh. Alternatively you can use shift+r to select the remesh size, then hit control+r to remesh. Then you will be able to change the mesh in this way :).
When you remesh at 5:12, what value are you remeshing to? Whenever I try to remesh an elongated cylinder, I'm still only getting snap points at the top and bottom, and can't manipulate the shape!
You know I'm not too sure on the exact value here. But in later versions of blender you can bring up the remesh grid (which is what I use now), default appears hitting the R key. Then you can move the cursor to adjust the remesh size visually. Then hit ctrl+R to apply
I can't get my snake tool to work like yours does mines only effects one side and does not bend the whole things any idea whta i might be doing or have wrong?
@@MWSculpts tried that didn't work but while looking in that direaction i found that i never applied the scales or rotation and then everything started working just like in the video. Thank you so much.
This is sculpt mode brush symmetry, when you enter sculpt mode on an object at the top right of the interface there is the X,y,z axis, if you hit one of those buttons you will enable symmetrical sculpting on that axis. So no need for the mirror modifier in that instance 😊
Buenas!
Hey glad you are enjoying the videos. Not sure why the video is not playing correctly for you, it should be ok. Forgive me if I misunderstand your comment I am using google translate :D
Like others I just can't get the bow to form right. I installed your pie menu and tried remeshing but it did not seem to work. When I use the snake hook tool it barely moves the cylinder edges even when there are tons of verts. It just creates little bumps on one side but doesn't bend both sides like it shows in your video. I have mirroring on too and used the sharp fall off.
Hey James, hmm yes just thinking you could try turniung on some of the other axes for mirroring, Here I have the X and Z ones turned on I think. Once you have remeshed you should be able to pull out and twist the mesh with the snake hook. If it is not moving much it could be the strength of the brush, try shift+F to adjust the strength higher and see if that helps. Let me know if still struggling and will have another think of what it might be.
Hey, this is fantastic! I've been looking for something like this for a long time! I downloaded your file and loaded it with blender, but I can't seem to manipulate it like you are in the video. I'm still pretty new to blender, so what settings do you use as your default? I'm pretty sure it's my fault it isn't working, but I don't know how to fix it. Any tips?
Great to hear :). So you will want to make sure you are in object mode and when you select each one you can hit the 'r' key and move the cursor to rotate. But being new to Blender it might be better for you to look up Grant Abbitts complete beginners guide first if you have'nt already. Any further questions just let me know ^^.
Hey i have an issue with the snake hook, i'm tottaly new to blender so i don't know many options, but the cricle/radius i have in my application is adjusting to the surface, while in your case it seems independent therefore you can easly manipulate objects, in my case i can only pull one particular piece of an object
Hey, if you try hitting control + r in sculpt mode it will remesh the object and you will have more geometry to pull and twist with the snake hook as the initial cylinder will have little geometry.
Got a question, are there any cons to using this method as opposed to sculpting in a neutral pose then posing it? I guess the pose would look more natural, plus the muscles would deform differently depending on the pose. But how would defining proportions (especially when working from a reference) and non deforming objects (like armor and stuff)work when it needs to be symmetrical?
Yeah you are right with your points. I would add that you could sculpt in parts in a neutral pose to ensure proportions are nice then pose it in the same way later on. Another downside to having so many parts as the transitions between arm and forearm for example will look bad until you decide to merge together
Hello, thanks for the videos, tips and explanations about sculpting miniatures. I would like to know how you created the base mannequin and how you can move and pose it without using rig bones. It is possible that you can show it in a tutorial video, I would like to be able to create mine and adapt it to different characters, whether male or female. From already thank you very much. Greetings
Glowner if you try holding shift and paint over the mask edge this should smooth. Also holding a will bring up the mask pie and you can select smooth mask there to apply to all edges. Let me know if this works out for you.
Really brilliant guidance here! I'm only just starting out with this. Question: When you mentioned two limbs being affected by mask/inflate, you said it was because of a duplication via object mode & alt +d. Does this need to be done at the start or can this be done at any point in the process? Thanks in advance !
Hey Bobby, you could do this anytime in the process for sure. Just go into object mode and use alt+d then you will have a duplicate that is linked to the original. So any further changes to one of these objects will be reflected on the other.
There is a command you will need called 'Make Instances Real'. If you select one of the feet and hit F3 and search for this command it will make it a unique object, hope this helps!
I tried cinema 4D and it has a handy knife tool that is very easy to cut off a chunk of a model and press delete and it all goes.. I cannot cut off a clean chunk of a model in Blender. any ideas?
Hmm yes there are a few ways. You could create a cube then use a Boolean modifier with the difference setting to remove a clean portion. Also in sculpt mode there is the 'line project' tool which will cut away also. Check out my hard surface vid for more info on that tool ruclips.net/video/dVGb_tFe5yA/видео.html
If you take an object in object mode then hit 'alt d' to make a linked duplicate. Then enter sculpt mode for the first one and hit 's' to scale it, once you confirm the scale the same will happen to the linked duplicate, give it a go and hopefully this makes more sense.
Practice!! If you enable the 'copy attributes menu' add-on in preferences you can select the hand then the weapon, hit control+c then select copy location. This will snap the weapon to the hand. Going to be working on a complete beginners guide in the near future so this would be a better place to start for you perhaps 👍
That's a cool idea 👏. Well I have a video coming in a few days giving some advice on building a small squad of minis which could help give some ideas 👍
Objects which behave like this are called 'linked duplicates'. You can create one by selecting an object and hitting alt+d, then you can position the new linked object anywhere. When you sculpt on the original with the mirror turned on the changes will be reflected on the linked duplicate too. Hope this clears things up but let me know if you have any further questions.
@@MWSculpts awesome, thanks for the answer. I started using your base mesh and found it really helpful but I wanted to fully understand how to replicate its functionality with different models.
Hi! I write to you since you seem to be a person who knows what is doing and who uses Blender for printing (lovely results by the way). When I model in Blender a figure from scratch the basic polygon I start with is totally hollow, with a very slight layer instead of a real solid inside. This stops me for printing anything at all... may I ask you for any advice?
Hey Jo thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you are having some issue with the model being manifold perhaps.. if you checkout my 3d printing prep video and follow these steps it could help with your issue ruclips.net/video/4otmAfW1I-s/видео.html
I cannot for the life of me figure out how you reshaped the cylinders with snake hook. Every time I try to use it, it stretches out a sharp panel from the cylinder rather than bending.
Ah yes I did not make this very clear I have had a few questions about this part. If you remesh the object (control + r) you will have more geometry to bend and twist the shape
This is really awesome, thank you for making these videos and sharing these resources! I do have a question about the addon on your gumroad: I installed it and used it, it's super helpful for a newbie like me, but at some point Blender crashed for unrelated reasons (and I had saved multiple times between installing the addon and the crash) and when I reopened it, the addon was gone, shortcuts and everything :( I'm wondering if it's likely because of the crash or if I missed a step while installing to properly "save" the addon to Blender?
Great stuff 😊. Sorry to hear about the crashes. So you could see if once you have enabled the add-on you can 'save preferences' in the bottom left. Also you could save a new startup file after getting your settings right. File > Default I think it's under..
I use a shortcut for each pie. For the most up to date info on this check this out ruclips.net/video/VmAubDs9GXw/видео.html. Installation instructions and shortcuts I use there 🙌
Ah yes if you look to the top left you will see I am using the 'Mesh Filter' tool. This is set to 'Inflate' so once we click and drag on the viewport it will inflate / deflate the whole mesh. Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any further q's.
Hey this is the Mesh Filter brush in sculpt mode. I have masked out half of the mesh then set the brush drop-down to 'inflate' and this will expand the unmasked portion
@@MWSculpts thanks for the reply. I tried but my mask is very sharp and when I inflate the unmasked portion, the transition between inflated and not inflated is too steep. I tried to smooth the mask multiple times but the improvement is not very noticeable. Instead, you press "smooth mask" only once and your mask get super smoothed. That's what I'm trying to achieve
Ahh I get you, so if you set the smooth mask action to have a keyboard shortcut, you can press and hold it to smooth a lot. I believe the option is in the mask menu at the top in sculpt mode, then you can right click smooth to set a shortcut
Yes my bad on this one as don't explain this part well. I have remeshed (ctrl+r) to get more geometry on the model. Try that then you should be able to twist

@MWSculpts nice, thank you, i didnt notice that video. Only problem i found, was that you didnt explain how to remove the version 1 addon for those that wanted to upgrade. I managed to do though. You should also add a pop up comment, or in the description, in this video, with the version 2 video so everyone who stumbles upon this video first, know what to do. Anyway, keep it up however you can nonetheless!
In the video I am using the custom sculpt pies add-on, check out the description for installation info. There are other ways though, holding 'A' (I think) while in sculpt mode brings up the mask pie and you can select smooth a few times. I add this as a keyboard shortcut then you can press and hold to feather. Also you can hold shift and paint on the edge of the mask to smooth out too.
Hey having another problem when I try to mirror the Bow the area mirror is way off from the Geometry so I can't mirror anything I sculpt on it any idea how I could fix this?
This will mean the origin has shifted at some point. If you go to object mode and select the bow, then hit F3 and search for 'origin to geometry'. Then when you enter sculpt mode the origin will be centered again. I think this video will really help explain what is going on here ruclips.net/video/OYfAHZ8mjCY/видео.html
@@MWSculpts I figured out how to recreate the problem I Added a mesh then moved it from the center then applied all transforms and then I could no longer get symmetry using brushes on it. Even if my origin is on the geomerty.
Yes so in object mode when you scale you will scale all the children of that object too. However if you enter sculpt mode on that object and hit the s key to scale you will see only that object is scaled. This should solve the problem, let me know if still having troubles.
I know it's been 1 year but I just started using blender to make some mini and I have an issue. I wanted to make, like you did a character holding, this time a sword instead of a bow, but when I try to move the guard to the middle of the handle, it goes on the top, so I have 2 questions, is there a way to disable the colisions between the different object and how can I move an object on one axis and only this one (when I move a cylinder on the Z axis it also move it on the Y axis and it's verry annoying) ? (sry english isn't my 1st language)
Welcome to Blender! 😁 I think if you hit g to move then z once you can move on that axis, if it doesn't work as expected try hitting g then z twice and this may be better. If you look at the ui at the top you will see you can select which axis will be used by default (local or global) and local is the selected objects axis. Hope this helps and let me know if struggling 👍
@@MWSculpts Thank you verry much, i'm going to try this later, do you know a fix for the colisions problem too and also is there a way too move an objext by typing the "coordonate" (100 X; 50 Y; 765 Z for exemple) ? I know i ask for a lot of things, sorry.
@@wyvern4117 yes I did think about this one and I wonder if you may have snapping turned on. If you check the top of the ui you will see a magnet icon if that is highlighted the object will snap when you move. Try clicking that to turn off.

I am trying to do this, but I can't get the rigth arm and leg to be visible. I have tried to even delete them and then duplicate the ones that are visible and mirroring it, but still they end up invisible everytime
Hey this is an odd one, I have tried to reproduce this myself recently after reading your comment but not sure how they are becoming invisible.. Is there any chance you are pressing the h key at some point? This hides the selected object and is something that throws me off sometimes. If you can provide any more info on the issue please do and I will try to help out further :).
@@MWSculpts Hey, I took a screenshot of my blender and uploaded it to snipboard, if you could see where the problem is. so I checked, that everything in the scene collection is not hidden, but still an arm and a leg is invisible. My guess is that it has something to do with them being mirror mesh from the other sides arm and legs.. or something.. But anyways, here is what it looks like. thanks in advance! snipboard.io/L2ZP4z.jpg
@@Jutsuss How strange, it looks as though the objects have been turned into a wireframe somehow. If you go into object properties (docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/_images/editors_properties-editor_interface.png), then 'viewport display' you will see 'display as' and also wireframe checkbox. Try altering those to see if it fixes the issue.
@@MWSculpts they were all not hidden, and I tried altering those checkboxes but no help. So I decided to just delete the invisible parts and duplicate and mirror new limbs, and now I can continue with the sculpting. So it stays a mystery.. :'D
While in sculpt mode you can use the mesh filter tool and set to 'inflate'. Also you can hit 's' key while in sculpt mode to scale the mesh, if you hit x y or z after 's' you will scale only on that axis
From memory I have the snake hook set to a falloff of 'sharp' and the 'rake' setting set to 0.5. Let me know if you're still having trouble and will look into it further. Good to hear you are following along :)
@@MWSculpts My tool also isn't moving it at all like yours either, and that is with those settings! The tool only grabs a small amount of the part at a time, it does not move the entire body as yours does. I've tried varying levels of mesh refinement to no result. Any thoughts? All the same, I love this tutorial and I appreciate it so much after sifting through so many things not catered to this purpose. (You've got a wonderful voice for this stuff as well!)
@@theodoreburns1330 Try zooming out and using a bigger brush size, this should grab much more material. Glad you are getting something from the tutorials :).
@@MWSculpts Thank you for the quick reply! I tried to comment a gif, but I think youtube removes links. When I use the snake hook tool the circle of the tool elongates into an ellipse and flips so it is perpendicular to my view rather than normal. The brush then only grabs small portions of the cylinder. Interestingly, further along in the tutorial the snake hook worked the same as yours for the hair! So I will continue to power through, just with a particularly ugly bow haha
@@theodoreburns1330The elongated ellipse for your brush can be fixed by going into object mode, selecting the object and applying the scale, then in sculpt mode the brush with be circular again. The brush should behave itself then.. let me know how you get on :)

Great to hear Justin, perhaps it's just the push for you to move forwards with Blender 🙂
Thanks for this, something to mull over. It does appear the 'buy my miniatures' market is very saturated indeed.
Joy is a great drink! Thank you, Umbrella!
You are a saint for putting those posers online for free!
No worries, hopefully they can help with your creations Chris :)
This series is brilliant! Really nice to see every step.
I didn't like this workflow when I first saw it but I gave it a try and damn, I was completely wrong. This way produces much more dynamic poses. Thanks for sharing man!
Remind me to support you in some way in the future when the paycheck arrives...
This tutorial is EVERYTHING!
Thank you 💕
WOW, this would've been much easier than what I did on my first ever sculpted mini :D
Didn't pose anything, just started off creating the character right away and tried to pose them later.
This is cool. Might do another miniature in the future, so this was very helpful, thank you
Great to hear you took something positive from this, stay tuned for part two and hopefully there will be more tips you can apply to your next project ^^
Excellent! Can't wait to follow this tonight. Thanks for coming back.
Great, let me know what you think when you get chance. Thanks again for your encouragement to create more content :).
@@MWSculpts Had a pop at this last night, I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of your content and your instructions are clear and concise, though I can't say my results are as good as yours 😁
It was very handy to be able to D/L the miniature in its raw state, as having tried a few times to make a rough frame, I've failed to create a satisfactory outline for the armature to attach to, perhaps in the future, this is something you could address for us at the beginning of our 3D/Blender journeys.
I look forward to the next part and following along.
Do you have a social media platform that maybe we could post our efforts in following your tutorials? Maybe an idea for the expansion of the channel?
Anyway thanks again for returning and sharing.
Kind regards
Woodsman.
Best of luck ^^.
this is great, subscribed since I've been wanting a series just like this.
I have bad drawing or sculpting skills but I want to try so I appreciate all these tutorials thank you
Good to hear you are getting something from the videos :), keep up the practice!
THIS!!! I've been looking for something like this for awhile now! I've got a few monsters from an old video game I want to make miniatures of and this really helps! Gonna be following these steps! Cheers!
Great to hear and good luck with your monsters 👍
Very cool, I look forward to watch the other videos 😊
Love your sculptures
That was cool man, looking forward to part 2!
Very impressive! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing!
This is extreemly useful! Thank you!
Awesome !! Just what I was looking for , suscribed ! And waiting for the second part!
Great tutorial!
You deserve way more views for this!
Thanks good to hear :D
First, thank you for making this video. I do have some questions:
@@MWSculpts thank you so much! I’m just starting with Blender. Your videos are very well done.
Let me know how you get on ^^
Очень круто! From Russia with love)
@@MWSculpts Perfect. that really helped. thanks
I may have done smt wrong :(
Let me know if you had any fix or solution
Edit : Ok I think I have it. If you scale the cylinder in object mode it don't work proprely afterward so be sure to resize it while being in scuplt mode. (And yea it's showed in the video so it's pretty dumb x) )
@@theoandernack8427 It is strange to get your head around how the scaling works in each mode. Glad you got there 👍
Thanks for this great resource.
So once you have it set to 'Smooth' you can drag on the viewport to increase/decrease the effect.
great channel very helpful subbed
Hi, how are you quickchanging between different modes with the wheel you bring up?
Hey I have a few shortcuts set up, you can also use ctrl+tab to use a pie menu, this video will explain it better ruclips.net/video/L5Oa3SLt6cA/видео.htmlsi=Hrp89SVSXAZAxtmP
Hey,
Very new to blender here ,started this week.
Love this video! Any tips on judging if details you’re sculpting are too small to print?
Here is the armature mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/ONKTk and here is the latest sculpt pies addon mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/mw-sculpt-pies-2?layout=profile and here's the video going over it and installation instructions ruclips.net/video/VmAubDs9GXw/видео.htmlsi=H_sYqrRo2t7c8Ywe
Best of luck with your creations 😊
Cheers, what resolution do you typically start with?
like when you added a cube and remeshed it, what resolution was that?
@@MWSculpts thank you for the tip! :)
I can't get my snake tool to work like yours does mines only effects one side and does not bend the whole things any idea whta i might be doing or have wrong?
Hey so if you use shift+r in sculpt mode you can set the mesh density then hit control+r to remesh the object. Then you can use snakehook freely 🙂
@@MWSculpts tried that didn't work but while looking in that direaction i found that i never applied the scales or rotation and then everything started working just like in the video. Thank you so much.
Got your pies and the armature set up, but unable to pose the armature. Any ideas as to what i might be doing wrong?
Hey not sure what might be going on here. If you select any of the objects and hit R you should be able to rotate the limbs around to pose
How did you apply the mirror modifier to only the bow and not the body?
This is sculpt mode brush symmetry, when you enter sculpt mode on an object at the top right of the interface there is the X,y,z axis, if you hit one of those buttons you will enable symmetrical sculpting on that axis. So no need for the mirror modifier in that instance 😊
Congrats , glad to see someone sculpting RPG miniatures in Blender ! how long does it take from you from sculplting the whole miniature ?
Cheers ^^, well this particular one took around 11 hours in total.
@@MWSculpts Great !!! Please post more video like this , they are very informative !!
Nice
Greetings
Funny you should mention this as I am working on this exact video right now, should be done in a few days, keep an eye out for it 👍
i am confused as to how you smoothed the mask selection out. any clarification on that would be appreciated!
Glowner if you try holding shift and paint over the mask edge this should smooth. Also holding a will bring up the mask pie and you can select smooth mask there to apply to all edges. Let me know if this works out for you.
@@MWSculpts it works! thank you for the really quick reply :)
@@MWSculpts thanks muchly! 😁👍
How do I stop the feet from being mirrored, I'm trying to sculpt one foot in a pose and the other follows it when I don't want it too.
There is a command you will need called 'Make Instances Real'. If you select one of the feet and hit F3 and search for this command it will make it a unique object, hope this helps!
nice!
Check out my hard surface vid for more info on that tool ruclips.net/video/dVGb_tFe5yA/видео.html
how do you get both the arms to grow together?
If you take an object in object mode then hit 'alt d' to make a linked duplicate. Then enter sculpt mode for the first one and hit 's' to scale it, once you confirm the scale the same will happen to the linked duplicate, give it a go and hopefully this makes more sense.
Someone should made a program with pre-sculpted bodies, so could be easier then modifying either the pose or the dimensions
You make it seem so easy! I tried but couldn’t get the weapon placement right
Practice!! If you enable the 'copy attributes menu' add-on in preferences you can select the hand then the weapon, hit control+c then select copy location. This will snap the weapon to the hand.
Going to be working on a complete beginners guide in the near future so this would be a better place to start for you perhaps 👍

@@MWSculpts please I’m looking for all the advice I can get
this is cool...
Beginner question how are you able to modify the positions of the part separate but maintain mirrored sculpting and editing?

How do you use that snake tool at 2:55?
Hey if you make sure to remesh your object before using the snake took you will have enough geometry to bend it like this.
@@MWSculpts I think that did the trick! thank you!

what are u doing when u where ré shapeing the arms at 3:51, iv whatched the clip 20times and cant figur it out
Ah yes if you look to the top left you will see I am using the 'Mesh Filter' tool. This is set to 'Inflate' so once we click and drag on the viewport it will inflate / deflate the whole mesh. Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any further q's.
@@MWSculpts thx helped alot :)
7:11 how did you smooth the mask in that way? If I press "smooth mask" the result is different
I must be doing something wrong because in my case snake hook tool doesn't work that way :( I can't bend anything like you did
Yes my bad on this one as don't explain this part well. I have remeshed (ctrl+r) to get more geometry on the model. Try that then you should be able to twist

how do you feather the mask???
Found the answer in another one of your vids. I applied all transforms when i only needed to apply the scale instead.
Great to hear 🙌
when I scale the shoulders the whole arm scales. Same when scaling the legs and arms, they all scale.
Yes so in object mode when you scale you will scale all the children of that object too. However if you enter sculpt mode on that object and hit the s key to scale you will see only that object is scaled. This should solve the problem, let me know if still having troubles.
@@MWSculpts Thank you! That was such an easy solution.
How do i activate or find the pie tool?
You can find it here mwsculpts.gumroad.com/l/mw-sculpt-pies. Check the listing and image for installation instructions 🙌
Excellent work. What is your background? You seem to be very good at posing with a good knowledge of stances
Thanks Russ, mainly a graphic design background so self taught in this field of sculpting and model making. Lots of great resources out there here on RUclips and Pinterest is ace 😊

@Justus Haha oh well sounds like the equivalent of turning it off and back on :D. Glad you got there in the end, best of luck with the sculpt!
Hello, where are you search references?
Hey Pinterest is a great place for references 🙂
@@MWSculpts thanks, your works are amazing, very beautiful 😍
last one< how do you make the arms thiccer
While in sculpt mode you can use the mesh filter tool and set to 'inflate'. Also you can hit 's' key while in sculpt mode to scale the mesh, if you hit x y or z after 's' you will scale only on that axis
how do you pose it
If you select each object in object mode and hit 'r' key you can rotate each object. If you rotate the shoulder then the whole arm will rotate too.
I’m trying to follow along, but my snake hook tool isn’t moving my cylinder like it is when you are using it, any ideas or tips?
Also while dragging if you create a circle with your motion it should continue pulling but also twisting the mesh. I think this may help, come back to me if your still having trouble.
Very good video. I learned a lot. One point of critique is that your voice isnt very engaging. Its okay because its a free video.
Thanks Robby I appreciate your honesty and agree, working on it 💪
how do you use the pie menues
If you download the addon here mwsculpts.gumroad.com/, you can follow the instructions to install and set them up on your system. Let me know if you're having any trouble and I will try to help.
@@MWSculpts thanks
how to you make the legs bigger, i use the pre set density pie menu but nothing happens
While in sculpt mode on the leg, if you hit the 's' key you can scale the mesh. The density pie will change the resolution of the mesh but not increase its size.
Do you use laptop or PC?
PC :)
@@MWSculpts Oh. 👌. Nice Video!!
bro do hypnosis videos pleaseee
i was unable to get the gumroad file
Have you managed to download ok or still struggling? If you put '0' in the price field you can get the file for free.
@@MWSculpts thank you for both of the tips
