Still in my living room, 20 years after. Amazing quality. Changed battery once, around 2010. Still going strong. I wish Logitech would make a 2024-edition with upgraded keys.
Throwback lol. I've had my DiNovo Edge since 2004 and I've been using it literally every single day since then. I typically still get over a month's worth of battery life even still. Best keyboard ever made in my opinion.
Nice review. I have been looking for the next DiNovo for a while now - just in case I’m still using mine almost 20 yrs later. It’s an excellent product and unparalleled
Absolutely, mine is i guess around 15-16 years now, works like a charm. I broke the plegsi a little bit so was looking a while ago if there is another keyboard like this, but Logitech seems to have abandoned the perfect stroke system which is a shame. I`ve not used a better feeling keyboard than this one
This was also from the same timeframe as the HP Scanjet 4600 scanner... the "see-through" scanner. It had a little stand like this keyboard and was really cool to watch when it was running. We need cool tech like this again.
You don't need the USB dongle to connect the DiNovo Edge to a modern PC. You can use just about any Bluetooth connection your PC has (or something like one of the Logitech Unifying Bluetooth Receivers). You go to Devices and Printers, click the Add Device button (with your DiNovo Edge in connect mode) and click the DeNovo Edge when it shows up on your PC. It will give you a code. You type that code on your DiNovo Edge and hit enter. Done. ;)
So my IT department was cleaning out some shelf space and they were going to put one of these (new and never used) into the electronic recycle bin. I grabbed it to use super quick. Had no clue it was this old. I thought it was maybe 4 yrs old at most. Looks awesome. Yet to see how well the touchpad works
Just to update this video for anyone who may have lost the dongle! It is possible to connect this KB to BT! Holding the pairing button behind the top of the KB will put it into BT pairing mode. You’ll find it in your Bluetooth devices, then select it. Enter the pairing ID number on the keyboard and press Enter. It will pair 🎉
Media Center PC's is a total throwback, I still have a Logitech PS3 bluetooth keyboard w/ integral touchpad that worked good enough to use from the couch. For a real premium keyboard throwback, you should pull out an OG first gen MS Natural (before they screwed up the arrow key placement).
Still have mine, probably almost 20 years old. Had it for a couple of years in a drawer unused and when I pulled it out it was still pretty good charged, the battery is still like new. I wouldn't buy a that expensive keyboard anymore but this is was really top quality that lasts and is basically like new after 20 years. On a side note, I had no issues connecting with a built in Bluetooth receiver and for me also the scrolling works fine with the circular touch area.
What a keyboard. I'm still using mine 20 years later. For gaming I have a mechanical but for my office, I haven't found a thin chiclet keyboard that beats it.
I was wondering whether a channel dedicated to nostalgia was sustainable but here I am, watching a video about a keyboard that is not even mechanical, and enjoying every second of it.
I think it just needs some mechanical switches on it than backlighting. In itself it already looks sleek and even on par with apple magic keyboards when it comes to aesthetics, but I wouldn't say that it will be the best board to type on since it uses rubber domes
I found one of these at e-waste a few years ago. Absolutely beautiful, I'd always wanted one. Pulled it out today to set it up in my home theatre but I forgot I found it with no dongle or charger station. I'm sure I could get the charger on eBay but wouldn't have a clue about the dongle. I'm sure they'd be different frequencies across the model. Hey great video mate, thanks!
don't need the USB dongle to connect the DiNovo Edge . just use Bluetooth connection PC has (or Logitech Unifying Bluetooth Receiver). then go to Devices and Printers, click the Add Device button (with DiNovo Edge in connect mode) and click the DeNovo Edge when it shows up on your screen. It will give a code (several numbers) and type that code on DiNovo Edge and hit enter. get a charger station and just enjoy it. at most you have to replace internal battery
I think if logitech modernized this keyboard it could still be a cult classic. I also think that this era of logitech keyboards had the most well loved keyswitch design.
ive owned this key bored since high school with my first computer set up when i was only making 8.75 a hr working at a gas station i loved it when i first saw it way back in the day i worked my ass off for this, logitech has never made another keybord like this ever since i looked over the years they just make mediocre keybords nowadays currently typing this review with my dinovo edge that i just got out of the basement i thought my mom threw it out i cant tell u how good it feels to type on my old set up brings me back when i was in high school doing home work on my old computer, tp type on this is so satisfying your fingers just glide over good key response and everything still works perfectly fine after all these years only issue with this i wish the track pad was much bigger other then that this dinovo edge still slays after all these years
Those diNovo's..... I struggled with that era of Logi BT keyboards. The number of instances they did not work in was infuriating, and the unexpected lag at times was beyond infuriating.
I bought one of these for my dad as he ended up getting the windows media center pc for the living room Tv back in the day.. I think he still has the keyboard too. Haha
My buddy has a ton of those small HTPC boxes because he builds computers and networks etc professionally. I always help him scrap trade in boxes for parts and he always gives me decent leftovers and actually built me a Ryzen 3900x 12 core box plus some extra money for upgrades I wanted for helping him over time. I don't know if he had one of those keyboards but he always has the latest and greatest goodies to play with. I probably would hate the feel of the keys too but has a HTPC keyboard it would be awesome. I have a low profile HTPC case here he gave me because I thought it was cool but I never put any in it though I have plenty of parts to do it. I run Plex and a few Silicondust tuners and it's networked all over the house so not sure it's needed anymore.
I can see it now - the year is 2040, mechanical keyboards are pretty much the standard for typing. Even your generic cheap Dell prebuilts come with some kind of mechanical switch. All the young 20-ish guys with their first jobs out of college start getting nostalgic for a keyboard that stopped existing in the mid 2020's where they key sat on a rubber dome. They remember their dad had one and missed the soft feeling of the key press and the silent actuation. Rubber dome keyboards make a comeback and the rubber dome keyboards from the 2000's start going on Ebay for hundreds of dollars.
Rubber dones would most likely come back in a way that it'd imitate topres than membranes themselves. They could sell as novelty but I highly doubt that most of those collectors would use it as a daily driver
I just recently found this keyboard over at my local thrift store.. loved it the second I saw it..paid a whole whopping 10$. Everything is so nice on it
I love my DiNovo Edge, its such a great keyboard, its a shame Logitech dont make anything like this any more, had to design and print a new set of legs as one broke but it works perfectly and you dont need the dongle to connect, still use mine daily and it works with modern bluetooth with laptops and PCs - not tried with a Mac so cant comment on that.
It's annoying when they mess with the 6 cursor control keys. I really like my main keyboard right now despite some of the same messing (it's a Cherry G80 apparently designed for use in a server rack and thus narrower?) putting delete, home, end, etc in weird places, but it takes a really good keyboard for me to forgive that.
I may have seen one at my local Goodwill. I may go look again. My daily driver is an IBM Model M. A workhorse, and LOUD. lol I have a not-so-loud hitachi with Alps keys. and an old Actual Alps Mac keyboard with built-in track-pad. I bought a ADB to USB adaptor cube thing, that only works with the apple full-size extended keyboard. I need to probably find a Griffin iMate adaptor to get the Alps working. The Blue & White G3 tower (my first new mac) still had an ADB bus on it and I used the Alps for a long time. Tacticle, but different than the Model M.
This was a fun review JR. I’ve been subbed on the main channel for a long time, and I think it’s pretty cool you’re doing this. Especially with your IT background. You should dress up the background a little though 😉
I have to disagree with usb receiver i can go with my dinovo edge 2 floors up and it can still type never disconnect like the new receiver's does time to time and doesn't even have same use distance as the old one .
I am looking at one of those on FB Market Place. 👀 I enjoyed your take on it, together with the video production. The biggest question I still have is what about the Logitech software to actually use all the features? What lets Logitech down is and has always been software issues with their products. We did in the US, but the C64 was way, way more popular, The Apple II behind it being really common in schools back then. Radio Shack and Atari both had a pretty big presence in the US home computer space as well. The Sinclair was sold under the Timex brand and never really hit off like it did in the UK and Europe.
Luckily the bluetooth connectivity in keyboards has evolved. I have in use a Logitech Ergo K860 and it does not require any dongles to connect to a bluetooth receiver. Nice Video John, thanks for that!

I wonder if there is a more modern version of this keyboard, if they had that but with mechanical keys, I'd be willing to trade out my logitech G910 keyboard
I bought one - works perfect in Win 11. When you first set it up with the Logitech drivers and it pairs you will get prompted to enter a code which you will type from the DiNovo keyboard. BTW you do not need the original USB. Just the keyboard dock and pwr supply cord. It works as if it was manufactured in 2023 and the design build is better than a lot built in 2023.
Unparalled quality. Still using it everyday. You can pair it via normal Bluetooth (mac). Press the Paring button back of the keyboard. Pair it via your Mac, enter with 6 digit code and finish with 'enter'
These things are the absolute worst junk ever to use and I'll fight anyone about it. We had one in our conference room at our last job and I'd just yank a random OEM lenovo keyboard and mouse and deal with the wires instead of dealing with that horrid little touchpad and mushy keys. (it does look awesome though)
Awesome. I've always found anything other than a basic, straight-to-the-point keyboard to be a bit of a waste, at least for me. Most of the special features or control implementations don't seem to work right and just end up being annoying and pointless.
Im from germany and im playing a lot of fps shooter i currently have a huntsman mini and am super happy with it since i bought it my self as all the other things as the next gen and old gen xbox and a mouse and a mouse pad even a 180€ scuff all i needed was a monitor for christmas to was a monitor and my dad tought he would vuy this keyboard for 150 off a friend used an now im sitting here sad over not being aeble to afford my monitor and i am mad over this keyboard being this useless to me since i already got a perfect keyboard for myself, now i feel bad abt telling him and questening if i could sell it or what ever i dont know man this is fucked up
Like where the channel is going but you need something on the walls behind you, a few shelves with some old gear on it or even a plant or something to break up that beige behind you.
Just got mine today, My company staff though it was broken and trying to throw it away, I'm like Hold the fok up let me have it. and fix it with a USB cable for like 5 minutes.
Had mine over a decade finally packing up. I can't find anything good enough to replace it. Gamer thoccy keyboard are tacky as hell. Rgb is not good and keyboards are not supposed to be noisy, sorry. Wish there were more stylish keyboards like this. Gonna have to go second hand when another comes available...
Firstly....I didnt know you also did tech reviews! I had a Dinovo edge for years but it got smashed during a move. I then bought Azio Retro keyboard but it died after 2 years (dead keys)_. It damn near took me 2 days of googling 'sleek black keyboard' before an image popped up of my old Dinovo Edge and off to Ebay I went. Cant wait for it to show up and I can quit copiny and pasting the letter "A" on this stupid Azio.
Still in my living room, 20 years after. Amazing quality. Changed battery once, around 2010. Still going strong.
I wish Logitech would make a 2024-edition with upgraded keys.
It would be like 300 dollars 😂
Id buy it
Throwback lol. I've had my DiNovo Edge since 2004 and I've been using it literally every single day since then. I typically still get over a month's worth of battery life even still. Best keyboard ever made in my opinion.
Mines starting to pack up now after over a decade. So sad
The battery lasted that long? My parked up after about 5 years, 12 years ago :(
Just bought one for 10$. Thanks for the advice
I still have this keyboard and works like the day i get it. I have the exact same opinion and experience with it

How did you replace the battery?

this was sitting in a box for 19 years now it's back and still works great. I can't believe the battery still charges and work perfect
Had one of these back in the day ... killed it with regular use within 3 months. Went back to my old Model M. Speak about an antique.
Still have mine, original battery, still works. Have no idea how that is even possible, but it is.
Same here! Had mine since 2004 and use it every day.

I had this keyboard back in the day, used it for my home theater pc. Build quality and battery life were amazing, as is the design and aesthetic
I still have mine working. The only negative thing is the cold palm rest in winter.
I was wondering whether a channel dedicated to nostalgia was sustainable but here I am, watching a video about a keyboard that is not even mechanical, and enjoying every second of it.
Waiting for the pre-iPod MP3 player showcase. What ever happened to Rio?
One of the greatest MP3 players ever!
What happened to the ZUNE?
I had a Rio One, I'll find some! 🍻
for almost 20yrs old - looks like a modern keyboard - IMO you need some of that tech-bro RGB lighting in the background
I think it just needs some mechanical switches on it than backlighting. In itself it already looks sleek and even on par with apple magic keyboards when it comes to aesthetics, but I wouldn't say that it will be the best board to type on since it uses rubber domes
I still have mine and love the typing experience on the device I also got the mouse that matched it and is all part of my wfh setup
that little media PC was super cool to learn about.. Had no idea they existed!
Love this keyboard!!
The dinovo too was one of the most beautiful keyboard!!!
