@@spinnymathingy3149 I'd say Mayu is a much stronger vocalist than Saiki. Completely different styles though so it might just be my preference. Both bands are amazing.
In my 70th year I can safely say that Misa is the most interesting and exciting bass player I have ever heard. All the stars were aligned when this band came together.
Due to a series of coincidences and incredible timing, we can now enjoy one of the best bassists in the world playing for one of the best rock bands in the world Thanks to Miku for putting all this pieces together, and thank you Ohrenje and Kasper for making this great documentary
If you want to know what I think about Misa as a bassist, the song that captured me for Band-Maid was "Onset." Right off the bat, the first thing I noticed was the drumming - it was distinctive, greatly contributing to the song and not just marking time. I yelled (literally), "My god it's Bonham!" So, I kept listening, concentrating on the drums. But gradually the bass started to creep into my attention, with all the fills and melodic elements. So, I switched to concentrating on the bass line and I eventually realized she's like John Entwistle, playing a song within the song. But then the bass solo happened and I further realized that, if she wants to play the actual melodic lead, she's perfectly capable of it. So, that for me says "Chris Squire." If you go back and listen to the early Beatles' music, Paul only played under the drums, simply anchoring the tune. But, sometime in the mid '60's, Paul heard James Jamerson, a Motown bassist who played very melodic bass lines, and Paul immediately switched to doing the same. It seems Misa was there right from the beginning.
Unfortunately, in Dallas, The House of Blues only had Lone Star and when we Texans in the audience saw that, we cringed. Poor Misa, the place did not have Shiner Bock, which is a Good Texas Beer. Misa drank that disgusting beer without making a face or a comment. We know - Misa is tough!!!!
MISA is one of the greatest bassists of all time. I am so glad that she stayed with Band-Maid. It is difficult, nay impossible, to contemplate Band-Maid existing without these five extremely talented ladies, who make the very best music. Thank you, Miku, for starting this band. Thank you Ohrenje for another excellent documentary; enjoying them all!
MISA is the reason I became a rabid Band-Maid fan. After hearing Thrill for the first time l looked for a live video, to see if they were the real deal, and found Play. When I heard that bass intro solo my fate was sealed. Since that moment I was a Maidiac!!
I just realized, can you imagine that the girls will dedicate part of these years to open the concerts of veteran bands? that's more or less what happens in the shows...many of us have gray hair and what we like is to listen to the best rock played by people who are alive...long live the girls...the best rock ever...
Each Ohrenje Band Maid video I have a new favorite member. Ohrenje seems to have a way of gathering information assembling it together to tell a great biographical story that makes these amazing ladies more mysterious, lovable and interesting each time he decides to put out a new Band Maid video.
Misa is my very favorite bassist. Her solos and runs remind me so much of John Entwistle of the Who, and his style of playing the bass like a lead guitar. No other bassist in all of my years listening to rock comes close to that creativity and art for me. Thanks for another great bio video. your hard work is greatly appreciated !
Well worth the wait. The Maid that likes to keep away from the limelight is now often forced to the front. She is a remarkable player and it is no accident that her playing style just manages to compliment every song they play. There has never been a Band who have gone out of their way to highlight the bass. I am sure other bands now do the same because of MISA and The Maids. We don't all have the timing and luck to meet the right people. Thankfully for us all MISA and Band Maid did.
Limelight is so apt given that it is a classic Rush track and she does so remind me a of Geddy Lee and his tone. She even exhibits traces of his personality and dry humour. After Rush retired I needed another great bassist to follow. I have found her.
MISA was wearing shoes at Aftershock because the stange was black and it was 93 degrees. But, ya knoiw what, the whole band played their hearts out for us and it made me love them even more.
Like Harry Potter's wand, the bass guitar chooses its owner (that's what I think anyway)😄 I'm a big fan of a booming bass riff, and in my opinion MISA is "The Mistress Of Thunder". I like all of the Maids, but MISA is my favourite for her growling tone and impressive ability to pick, slap and pop without dropping her pick 🤘🤘
During the US tour, MISA didn't have the whiskey, just beer. I thought maybe this was because she was backing off for health reasons, but then I saw she was back to the whiskey at Tokyo Garden Theater. I'm guessing the thing during the US tour was wanting to try the local beers of the different states they visited.
Unfortunately, in Dallas, The House of Blues only had Lone Star and when we Texans in the audience saw that, we cringed. Poor Misa, the place did not have Shiner Bock, which is a Good Texas Beer. Misa drank that disgusting beer without making a face or a comment. We know - Misa is tough!!!!!
Oh she had whiskey, maybe not every show. There was a video that Kanami took of Misa signing the bottle which she tossed to the crowd. Unfortunately it was a Instagram story but there are pics on the band insta were ya can see the bottles on her Amp.
MISA looks cool and scarry at the same time, untouchable onstage in the appearance & playing. BAND-MAID assembled in the perfect timing and perfect members. Eventhough they are really difference personaliies and appearance they seems really get a long together and compliment each others. Even their footwares and hair style are difference 😄 That's why Miku said it's KISEKI, miracle, they got together in one band. Some of my favorite MISA time are in the Manmers, call and response with Kanami in Don"t you tell me, tapping in Clang, and her sliding notes at Blooming which is so tanderous even live recorded at smartphone in US Tour 2022. I hope MISA will tapping again with Kanami in the music festivals they will perform, so that thousand jaws will drop 😄 Great documentary, btw.
Hi. I’m a Japanese who speak broken American English. I add some more information about her decision to stay in Band-Maid. When she was thinking to leave the band, they’re scheduled to perform at Sakura-Con in Seattle. Her manager advised her that she goes to Seattle and decide if she leaves or not. And she went Seattle and she was surprised by the fact that about 2000 audience were waiting for BM. They never have played in front of that much of audience. She thought that this band has a future and decided to stay in the band.
It was in the earlier days, around the time before their first solo live show (source: the interview in the 2019 mook "The Day Before World Domination"). So, I don't think it was their overseas live debut at Sakura-con in 2016, but at least April 2014 or earlier.
I really like their backup bass player when Misa plays lead Bass. It seems to be the "small Pigeon" chugging along, Po! This is way better than National Geo or Jacques Cousteau, even 60 mins documentaries, Po! Great work!
Wonderful video, I can't help but think that it has to be fate from how this band formed and it formed at the perfect time. I'm also so glad MISA decided to not quit Band Maid. If that happened I don't think the band would sound anywhere close to how they sound now. I never knew she grew up listening to RHCP (she's definitely the Japanese female version of Flea lol) and that's a huge W. I also agree with Saiki's take on MISA being a "cool beauty" as MISA said herself she wants to be known as "cool" and she definitely earned it. She's so talented, beautiful, and hardworking. Her and the ladies are inspirations and role models to me and when she makes her signature bass I'll be the first to buy it. Can't wait to see them live again in America this year. Love you MISA ❤️ love you Band Maid ❤️ thank you for the music and thank you for existing ❤️
I'm late to the party, watched this last night here in Oz with a couple of cold beers, this is fantastic, so well done and thoroughly enjoyable, so much so that I watched it again with more beer, many thanks to all who participated in bringing this to us and of course a respectful bow to that incredible Rock Goddess, Misa, Misa, Misa 😄👍🎼🍻🍻🍻🍻
Wow! Misa has stood out, to me, for the reasons you stated during the video, but also because, based on my experience listening to another bassist (Geddy Lee - Rush), her bass lines are creative and flow with the music. Band-Maid has been - captivating - gaining my attention with the quality of their music. And, my heart by their interaction as a band of Friends (as seen in various photos) who love music so much that they put extra effort and attention into composing their music for their Masters and Princesses.
As a long term Rush fan also, Misa is the first bassist in a long time to give me as much joy as listening to Geddy. She has the same attack and great tone coupled with his knack for playing exactly what works for the song while also adding fantastic flourishes. It's almost prophetic that Misa was rising to the fore while Geddy was sadly not active any more due to the loss of Neil Peart and the closing of Rush' great career.
For me, Misa's standout quality is the great chemistry she has with members of the band. Of course she has the skills of a technically proficient bassist, as do many other fine bassists; I definitely get strong John Entwistle, Chris Squire and Geddy Lee vibes from her playing. She has slap-bass peers in the J-Rock scene, notably Koga of Gacharic Spin and Fami of Love Bites, but Misa's chief asset is to craft a line that moves flawlessly among her various techniques to support what the others are doing.
I love MISA’s playing. She reminds me so much of Alejandra Villarreal. Both super-talented. Both very intelligent musically. It was a joy to see them play together on Show Me.
Something I'm looking forward to the most is more compositions from MISA. There are so many melodies in her bass lines that sometimes it's a pity that she doesn't want to (yet?) develop them into a full song.
Misa got the juiciest bass line in the correct time and places of the song structure I've never heard in any band, that makes her part so important to all of Band Maid song. Thanks for the great documentary!
*MISA IS AMAZING.... She plays so many styles, techniques flawlessly and her solos and fills are just sublime and musical.* There are many "lead" bass players, the late John Entwistle (The Who), Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Geddy Lee (Rush), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big). MISA is a not to be directly compared but she is a lead bass in her own right, unique and carved out her own sound and style. I love the progressive rock or Jazz song structures of Band-Maid songs, many instrumentals, and each member takes a solo, ala Jazz clichés. This appeals to music fans and musicians.
I've always loved bass guitar but never learned to play it. Until Misa. Misa was my inspiration to finally pick up the bass guitar. I'm just a beginner, but my goal is to learn to play the bass and then learn to play Misa's bass riffs. One day...
Gioncho, by Band-Maiko… that bass groove. Damn! I particularly appreciated this video when one of the invited bassist described a precise moment where Misa shines. Gives you a chance to listen to the song differently.
I was glad to hear that Misa recognized she needed to moderate alcohol. As a 75 year old life time rock music fan, I've seen far too many great musicians self destruct with alcohol and drugs. Indeed, Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" concerts are to help people overcome substance. Misa is so beautiful, talented, adorable, I hope and pray she remains healthy, vibrant, with extended life. Band Maid is great, one of best bands of all time. They're so close knit, I hope Band Maid remains together for many years to come. Misa is invaluable to the band's sound and success. Love everything about her.
Thank you very much for another great documentary, Ohrenje! Can't imagine how hard were you working. Kaspers Michaels, you were great! It is always nice to hear you. Glad to see here pdwilsen and especially Ben and Björn - miss you guys.
Misa does get some spotlights for sure. I LOVE Thrill and that Bass solo is the bomb. That intro to Dice is fantastic as well. Band-Maid works so well because every part of the band is an equal part. But the sum of all the parts is more than the individual parts.
My favorite Bassists who got to shine within a band were Chris Squire from Yes and Geddy Lee from Rush, even Gene Simmons was heavily featured in Kiss, but after I discovered Band-Maid last year and listened to what MISA can do, I have an all-time favorite Bass player to follow into the future!
Super bass player. Listening to rock music for 50 years and she is the best bassist i've heard. Either side of the stage and at the back they have the best 3 core rock musicians anyone could ever want.
As for Misa's skill on bass, one need only listen to Band Maid live video performances. Misa is one of best bass players in world today, indeed, one of best of all time. I love her solos.......Wow! She's so creative, a true virtuoso. God bless her and her beloved fellow maids.
I really enjoyed this and yes it was worth the wait. I just love MISA's style, both on and off stage. People ask me why I just listen to Band-Maid for the last three years and I tell them because I don't have time to REALLY listen to anything else. These girls are so good I have to break the song down first, then break down each members part and that takes time. I still find little things I never heard from the last year of listening. I'm in the MISA bass breakdown stage now so this is perfect timing and she is simple amazing as a writer and musician.....I can't praise her enough.
They were a supergroup right out of the gate. Misa is sheer genius. She reminds this 71 year old drummer a lot of John Entwhistle from the Who. Insanely talented. I heard somewhere that she likes to play barefoot so she can feel Akane's drums with her feet. Band Maid has reignited my love for music for the last 4 years. Misa and Akane together are the most amazing & beautiful rhythm section on this or any other planet.
Thank you once again for such an incredible production. It is so appreciated by all of us Madiacs! BTW, I am in love with Misa! ♥Along with a million other guys! 🤣
Is it just me but Misa reminds of a lot of Darcy Wretzky of the Smashing Pumpkins. She’s got that cool chick vibe who just loves to play music and doesn’t give af about anything else. This is said in a positive way☺️
Awesome!.....LOVE this series!....How can you not love these ladies?.....It really is "A Miracle Po!"....EVERYTHING....literallly..EVERYTHING came together at the EXACT moment it needed to when Miku🕊 decided on her dream band....She got EXACTLY that...A Dream Band!🥰🥲..Long May They Reign!👑
Thank you once again Ohrenje and Kasper for a creative and insightful documentary. Not many bands have a lead bassist and I for one am grateful that I discovered them. My first exposure was, as with many others, Thrill. The bass solo was unusual for a rock band and had me instantly hooked. In this band it is really Akane and Miku as the rhythm section with Misa and Kanami as dual leads. Who does that? Only Band-Maid. Kudos to you for sharing this with the world. World Domination Po!
Thank you for a wonderful documentary video of MISA!💕MISA!💕MISA!💕 I'd like to make two corrections, however: 1. MISA was thinking about quitting before their first one-man Okyu-ji, not after one or two one-man Okyujis. They performed several live shows as a part of events or with other bands before. So the manager told MISA to wait till she experienced their first one-man Okyuji, i.e., performing in front of THEIR fans . 2. Akane is not a drinker. She can drink a glass of beer, but that's about it, probably. Miku once said that it was amazing that Akane could stay cheerful for the whole night without drinking any alcohol while MISA, Saiki, and Miku kept drinking. Someone please correct me if my memory was incorrect🙏
happy 10 years dear girls talented, wise and happy women...I love you, your music has filled many empty spaces that life has been leaving in my soul. Life consumes you and sometimes, leaves you dry...thank you and congratulations...may the love and your music never die...and never let them use you...I love you more than my mother (Joke).
14:00 There are several interviews in which the band members confirm that Miku can drink everyone else under the table if she wants to. She loves to drink sake but often doesn't have time or doesn't feel like being drunk. This is probably why the band members claim that Miku has the soul of a 40 year old man.
I thought this would be the hardest video to make, but you knocked it out of park. Misa got me listening to bass more. That is interesting about her accent. The zoom video the band made in 2020 where they each spoke in English to the fans. I thought Misa's spoke clearest.
Great video. I love history videos. And it was a great video. I very rarely hear bass from different bands. But with BAND-MAID, I almost always hear the bass. This is wonderful. MISA is doing its best! Thank you for this documentary. Looking forward to part 5!
I just fell in love with her (playing). Played bass myself but had to quit due to serious problems with my hands and seeing such dedicated players still put a tear in my eye, but it's a tear of joy. Thank you for that documentary and the ones for every other member of this extraordinary band.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。One of the seven wonders of Band-Maid is Misa's bass playing. It clearly stands out but never disturbs the song Saiki and Miku are singing. On the contrary, I feel sometimes as if I see a 2-meter tall third singer with beautiful baritone voice singing behind the front women. At the Tokyo Garden Theater, Misa's blasting bass together with Akane's seismic drumming shook my bones and internal organs then cured my dyspepsia 😄
Band-Maid is the only rock-band where all members are front-stars, but Misa is also everybody's sweetheart.
Nemophila are individually outstanding as well.

Awesome job my friend, you did another amazing job, and I’m sure Misa would love how you portrayed her. Big props to everyone involved.
Misa is my favorite bass player behind Stanley Clarke and Chris Squire
Misa is a gorgeous woman with great talent a beautiful bass player she is one the greats 🔥❤️💓I love her and the rest of the group 😍
Thank you very much for another great documentary, Ohrenje! Can't imagine how hard were you working.
Kaspers Michaels, you were great! It is always nice to hear you.
Glad to see here pdwilsen and especially Ben and Björn - miss you guys.
Misa is just like anyone else, except she's a Rockstar! 🥰 🤟
Awesome Job!
Super bass player. Listening to rock music for 50 years and she is the best bassist i've heard.
Either side of the stage and at the back they have the best 3 core rock musicians anyone could ever want.
Thank you - thank you - thank you, wonderfully done as always.
Awesome commentary! Thank you. Seeing Misa laugh and smile during so many moments of the TLA Philly show was amazing. Never saw her so happy! 😎
As for Misa's skill on bass, one need only listen to Band Maid live video performances. Misa is one of best bass players in world today, indeed, one of best of all time. I love her solos.......Wow! She's so creative, a true virtuoso. God bless her and her beloved fellow maids.
😁these are always good to watch, being reminded why we love BAND-MAID
Misa is a beautiful, classy lady, world class bassist. She's adorable in every way.
Very nice job. Informative, and enjoyable.
Misa is a doll
This is said in a positive way☺️
One of MISA's favorite bands is Smashing Pumpkins.
Great bass tone, musical sensibilities...and cool stage rockstar outfits.
More than any of the other maids, I would truly love to see Misaki's....oops...I mean MISA's reaction to this incredible documentary about her.
Thanks!
Misa is so kool. A bass princess. Great chops and slap technique. ❤️ Her style and personality. Band Maid are the best JMetal band ✌️🤘🏴🇯🇵🇦🇺
Thank you for a wonderful documentary video of MISA!💕MISA!💕MISA!💕
I'd like to make two corrections, however:
Someone please correct me if my memory was incorrect🙏
finally!! I was looking forward to the documentary, now just missing Miku. I wait for the subtitles in Portuguese (BR) now. thanks for the video
happy 10 years dear girls talented, wise and happy women...I love you, your music has filled many empty spaces that life has been leaving in my soul.
Great work, very enjoyable. Misa Misa Misa 🤘🏻
I love the friendship these girls have, and the love they have for each other shows in there music. What a great band.
Just saw Band-Maud live for the first time yesterday in Anaheim love them .
MISA MISA MISA! ✨🎸
I thought this would be the hardest video to make, but you knocked it out of park. Misa got me listening to bass more. That is interesting about her accent. The zoom video the band made in 2020 where they each spoke in English to the fans. I thought Misa's spoke clearest.
Thanks ohrenje!
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Nice video clips from the Lodge concert in LA in 2018
Great video. I love history videos. And it was a great video.
I very rarely hear bass from different bands. But with BAND-MAID, I almost always hear the bass. This is wonderful. MISA is doing its best!
Thank you for this documentary. Looking forward to part 5!
MISA, the barefoot assassin... 1 badass bass player.
I just fell in love with her (playing).
Played bass myself but had to quit due to serious problems with my hands and seeing such dedicated players still put a tear in my eye, but it's a tear of joy.
Thank you for that documentary and the ones for every other member of this extraordinary band.
Спасибо за работу. Много нового узнал о Мисе)
Can't wait for Miku's!
In another answer to the barefoot question, she said it helps her feel Akane's drumbeats better and synch her timing to them.
Thank you Ohrenje. I've been waiting for this one. Great job as usual. Superb scripting, editing...very professional. I love Misa as we all do.
