This video is a sterling example of the concept of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Individually Simon and Louise generate wonderful content; when appearing in tandem their videos are brilliant! And I am confident that a quote from Louise will someday appear on the back of a book. One last comment: I don't know if they are easily available in the UK, but the Library of America publishes five volumes of Edith Wharton, including novels, short stories, and novellas.
Oooh I’ll look up those Wharton editions, thank you Gail. At first I wasn’t sure how to take us being greater than the sum of our parts but I think it’s a double compliment, ha, I’m taking it as such. I defo think Mum will get a quote on a book, I would love her to be a judge on the Womens Prize.
@@SavidgeReads, after I posted this comment I worried that it might not be taken the right way, but you are correct in that it was meant as a compliment.
Lovely to see you together, Louise looking lovely as usual and Simon with a stunning new haircut! 😊 and yes us Aussies are a gritty lot 🤣 I will forever be grateful to you for putting Violets on my radar Simon (and I may have said that a few times before) one of my all time faves 💕 My vote for inbetween the WWs - Nancy Mitford!
I’m heading back to my short hair era for a new 📺 project 😉 I may also steal that jumper of mums as I love it. So pleased Violets was a fab read for you too!
Great catch up on the prompts. Did you know that Evie Wyld has written another book called after the fire, a still small voice. I found out after I’d read the bass rock and loved it and wanted to find out what else she’d written. So its on my tbr pile😊
Oooh I dunno how I feel about crime novels with no murders. That said I may well read an Agatha Christie this coming weekend as we’re going to be somewhere with an Agatha link!
It was so good. I wonder if it had been marketed as a novel of interlinked stories it may have been seen here and there a bit more. I mean the cover got me as soon as I saw it.
Oh my days , I love watching your videos you appear in together, they're always, fun, fact filled and make me smile. Please continue, love your channels you both have individually too. 🙂😍
There’s a few duo videos coming and even some being recorded next weekend for future months! So hopefully you’ll enjoy them as well as our ‘solo’ efforts. Ha.
I read the same book as my prompt for March as you Simon I don’t normally get on with short stories but I think because there was a link it made such a difference I loved it. 😊
I have yet to read Custom of the Country. But I have read The Age of Innocence & Ethan Frome, so am a big Wharton fan. If you like her, I highly recommend Willa Cather, too. She was writing a bit later than Wharton, but I sort of feel like she was her rural counterpart. Admittedly I have only read O, Pioneers!, but that was extraordinary with an amazing strong female protagonist in Alexandra.
I have read some Willa Cather not sure it was at the right stage of my reading life so would like to head back. Random fact, I went to her house (well one of) on a road trip and unknowingly dropped my passport there, only realising two hours later and had to go all the way back. Imagine.
Oh what a perfect video for the end of a long week. The two of you are so delightful together (an idge not an age has me rolling off the sofa). I love Edith Wharton. I feel your trauma but you must read The Age of Innocence. It’s brilliant. My favorite city is London and my April book is Latchkey Ladies by Marjorie Grant in the new Handheld Classics edition. Very excited for it.
Mums face after I said ‘idge not age’ hahaha. But it’s true. I will definitely get to The Age of Innocence, I just need to let go of my face trauma… of 30 years ago. Hahaha.
Awww thanks lovely! I think you’ll like The Bass Rock, in fact I think you’d like all the Wyld’s. A few more vids with me and mum coming in the weeks ahead 😉
If you haven’t read it I would recommend The gallery of vanished husbands by Natasha Solomons for Louise as it’s about artists and a painting. I loved it and have read it twice, which is unusual for me. 🎨🖼️
Simon, I would really love to see a video on Australian fiction or a few recommendations of Australian authors. I would love ❤️ to read more of these novels. I read Charlotte Wood after your mother enjoyed The Weekend.
Oooh The Weekend is great. I may have done an Aussie recommendations video already I think if you do a little search on RUclips. Savidge Reads australia should bring some things up 😉
I'm loving the prompts so far. I read The Confessions of Frannie Langton for January which was fab. The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree for February which was too high on the woowoo scale for my mood that month and I got lost in places. For March I read Betty which was great but high on the trauma. For April I've already read The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox which I really enjoyed. Great video! I love Edith Wharton too there are some great Audio books for some of her works. I enjoyed The Custom of the Country.
Hahaha. The woohoo scale. Hahaha. I need to bring that out more often. I want to read Betty at some point. I really loved her debut. I might have to read her latest just because of the title. I loooved Esme Lennox. My first O’Farrell which I read on my grans sofa with candles during a power cut yeeeeears ago.
What a great idea to have a prompt for each month. And doable for most ppl, for sure. Excited for the reading experiences ahead for you both! - Jollof Rice and Other Revolutions is on my tbr, so I’m really glad you enjoyed it, Simon - I might even need to get to it sooner now 😎
That sounds fun too! Love how prompts take someone out of their comfort zone a little while still having enough freedom for mood readers to exist peacefully-ish within it 😉
I’ve never done reading prompts before, but I’ve been enjoying this so much. I am also reading The Custom of the Country for April - and I was delighted to hear that you adore Edith Wharton as much as I do!
Love to see you with your mum, you are both so giggly. I loved Violets but didn’t get on with The New Life. It was too academic for me. I wonder if there is a Lasagna book - I'm going to have to look. Great stuff - thankyou
So disappointed with the Elizabeth Buchan. Was sure it would be good but just didn’t ring true. Be interested in your reaction. Now the Edith Wharton…ace!! Written in the light of her own situation at the time and near recent past. Wonderful insights. What a writer! Thanks for super video😊.
She has her own channel too. And sometimes when we see each other we just want to catch up off camera. But there’s some more videos planned as we discussed at the end.
If you’re interested in different approaches to gender and marriage in pre-colonial Africa I have just started reading The Invention of Women by Oyeronke Oyewumi, and it is very eye opening so far!

I did. I have read that and her graphic novel Everything Has Teeth. I am a Wyld completist. Wildly awaiting whatever she writes next.
I just finished Agatha Christie book Absent in the spring and really enjoyed no murders so was a great change from my normal reading

Such a treat to watch a "colab" video of my two favorite booktubers. Have a great road trip and lots of wonderful reads ❤
Awww so pleased you enjoyed it Natalia!
perfect Pair you are I loved this and Louise that jumper is gorgeous. i too am fllowing the prompt so absolutey adored this Thanks
Soooo pleased you’re joining in with the prompts. Lovely to hear. I want mums jumper quite badly!
Love this ❤
Just started my first Edith Wharton and now I I'm looking even more forward to it
Oooh I hope you enjoy her as much as the Savidge’s do!
Enjoyable in any case.😊
I enjoyed Jollof Rice as well and am surprised I don't hear about it more often. Glad you are giving it visibility.

I can’t remember if that is a Natasha Solomons I have read or not. I read a few at one point.
This is such a precious video! The Bass Rock sounds like such a good read, adding it to my TBR 🥰

I loved the Bass rock 😊

Love the pair of you in the same video! And doing Louise's channel wave at the end! 😂

That sounds fun too! Love how prompts take someone out of their comfort zone a little while still having enough freedom for mood readers to exist peacefully-ish within it 😉
Gorgeous viewing . I have previously read some Edith Wharton and would highly recommend. You are a really great double act .
I love me some Wharton. I may even be heading to her today. Glad you enjoyed the video.
So funny together 😂❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
What a treat and thank you SO much for the mention ❤❤
You’re one of our favourites Kate 💜📚

Soooooo pleased you’re joining in. How spooky that we’ve chosen the same book for this months. Spooky and lovely!
Nice to see you both! ❤ Louise, I have Two Women in Rome waiting for me too! See you both again soon! 🇨🇦
In a few mere videos in fact 😉
❤
Adding Violets to my Blackwell’s wish list. That one sounds fantastic
It’s just wonderful. I was so relieved mum loved it.
Great choice Louise. I read The Venice Sketchbook by Rhys Bowen for this promptx
Ooh I love Venice.

If there’s not a lasagna book then I feel like maybe mum or I, or mum and I, should write it. Ha. So glad you enjoyed Violets.

That’s a shame. I have no plans on reading it. I am looking forward to the Edith Wharton.
@@SavidgeReads No indeed. I should have been more specific and said your Mum’s reaction 🤣. These videos with both of you are very enjoyable!
I love Custom of the Country. Her protagonist, Undine, makes Becky Sharp look like a saint.
Ooooh intriguing. Will look forward to discussing more once I’ve read it.
Yes! The Lasagne trilogie 🎉 thank you 🎉
Hahaha. I think mum should write it haha.
@@SavidgeReads oh gosh 😅 yes !
Wild Abandon - Emily Bitto - loved it ❤
Ooh good to know.
Love your mom! she should join more :)

Great video! Would love to know the name of that Australian indie bookshop, as an Australian who struggles to find them 😊
So it was Readings but there’s been some issues around staff unions and things so have held off for a bit till it’s sorted.

Lovely video you two!
So is banning books a thing in the UK as well or are you referring to the nonsense that’s going on in the US?
It’s not happening in England, Scotland or Wales yet, it has started in Northern Ireland though and looks like could be heading here.
