Today we dive into a 5-star hotel lunch buffet in Manila, Philippines. Located at the lobby level of Edsa Shangri-La, HEAT serves international cuisine all day from 6am to 12 midnight. During our dining experience, there was Filipino fare such as Lechong Baboy and Kare Kare. There were also Indian, Malaysian, Western, Japanese, and Italian dishes. Watch the full video for the tour and review!
    HEAT website: bit.ly/2OkzfXS
Other info: Prices may change over time, but it was around 2500 PHP per person for the Lunch Buffet when we went. Cost varies for breakfast, lunch and dinner and if you dine on Lobster Night.

Hi Miss Mina, I’m happy to see you feature Filipino food. Hope you liked them. For Kare-kare it’s best to eat it with shrimp paste or what we call bagoong. It compliments the sauce. Of course most of us enjoy it with rice. Halo-halo is best eaten if you mix everything then eat it. It is called halo-halo because it means different variety and it also means mix like you mixed everything 😁 hope I was able to explain it 😋😋😋

"sapin" means layer, sheet or cover in Filipino. banana leaf is commonly used here to cover, wrap or something to lay on food like a plate or cover for a rattan plate.
the rice cake is called "sapin sapin" because it is made of different layers or colored rice cake 😊

In the Philippines, it's normal to shower 2-3 times a day.
Eat some of the leche flan and ice cream on top of the halo-halo then mix in the rest by dipping your spoon to the bottom and bring up the various items to mix it up and down. The ice should melt partially with the ice cream and other syrups. Make sure to mix everything very well and get a spoonful of all mixed ingredients. It's heaven on a hot day!

"Halo-halong sangkap" do u translate that as mix-mix ingredients? No. It's "mixture of ingredients". So it's mixture, not mix mix

    • @island-life

Sure! but how can you mix it when every time you mix it, the milk in it overflows? I've eaten halo-halo all my life and I always eat the ice cream first and drink some of the liquid in it first before I get to the bottom. Mix mix aka halo halo means different type of ingredients. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to eat everything in one bite. Just a food for thought.

The cereal like in Halo halo is Pinipig. Pinipig are immature grains of glutinous rice pounded until flat before being toasted. It is commonly used as toppings for various desserts here in Philippines.
