Absolutely hats off to you both, from someone who drank 2/3 bottles of wine a night, that wasn't enough so I thought I'd hit the gin. Eventually it caught up with me. A burst ulcer and told to refrain from alcohol. 4years today I'm alcohol free. Keep going guys. Thanks for sharing Rick ❤
@@ricktenerife Congratulations on taking the step Rick. I don't judge or preach im a big believer in things happen for a reason, my son has also stopped drinking and I've told him about this vlog today we're always impressed at these stories. He's read lots of books n listened to podcasts but he asked what book you read is it The unexpected joys of being Sober?
Hi Rick just watching your vlog/ interview I am an alcoholic my journey caused me serious mental health issues. I am now coming up 10 years sober. I started off in AA and went for 6 years. I still practice the values I learned, it don’t think it should be taken lightly also not too seriously to become obsessed with books etc. I have autism and see life as black and white, tell it like it is and hopefully not offend people. Me and my partner Wayne visit Tenerife at least 2 times a year., we followed Shelley around all the bars in our last visit, that was hard as ideally I don’t like bars but it has proven that you don’t have to drink to enjoy yourself or drink to cope with nerves of being Autistic, Oh and by the way my name is Lee not Mike lol, so yeah really think hard if someone is thinking about it and I always remind myself of the bad and embarrassing times, thank you for your upload 😊👍🏻
I appreciate you taking the time to comment Lee. Thanks for sharing. As you may have heard my marriage broke down due to alcohol so I am fully aware of the trauma and devastation it can bring. I felt uploading this vlog may help someone in the future who is of same mind as myself and needs a little help. all the best.
@ sorry to hear that Rick , luckily you found Shelley you both seem to get on really well, good luck to you both , see you guys next year, in the meantime we will keep watching, Lee& Wayne ❌🌴👍
Great vlog Rick, I always do dry January but this year continued and have still not had a drink, feel sharper and generally healthier all round, no one has ever woken in the morning regretting NOT having a drink 😅
Congratulations to Rick, Lisa, and Maggsy. In 2015, I put myself into rehab, and I have no regrets about my sobriety. Changing my habits was challenging, and it took me a long time to feel comfortable returning to a pub. Now, however, I can go out for dinner and feel completely at ease.
Thanks for your candid vlog, my father was a heavy drinker and I witnessed the effects several times over the years, he was the life and soul of any party. For that reason I control my alcohol consumption and don’t drink in the week and can go for weeks without, unless I am on holiday. I had an interesting chat to a friend’s son who works in a casino in the US and he doesn’t drink anymore as he sees what it does to people daily! I am sure that you also see the dark side with the job you do too. Well done for your decision!
Fantastic. Well done all of you. I used to be a quite heavy drinker myself. Darts in one hand a pint in the other etc. I was doing that several times a week. Then diabetes hit me. Since then I have changed my life style. Luckily I found giving up the drink quite easy. I do still have the odd pint, last one was 4 months ago, before that I can't remember. It is not something that is important to me anymore.
Great interview Rick and Shelley. Lisa and Adam are lovely. Allen Carr. Helped my sister-in-law give up smoking. And she was a heavy smoker, 50 cigarettes a day. Well done to you too Rick. Not drinking makes every day feel better. Great to share. This will help so many people. Liked and Shared. Happy Tuesday.
12 months sober - mainly through health reasons. Found it very easy personally without sounding pious or sanctimonious. Sobriety is the new rock and roll 😅
Hi Rick we don’t drink in uk. We met you in the Garrison on the pints😂😂😂. We were heavy drinkers for years. I reckon we were functioning alcoholics. We worked never missed a day through alcohol. Know looking back our son suffered growing up and that breaks my heart. We were accomatosed most nights. Our health suffered and relationships outside our relationships were pushed to the side for alcohol. No alcohol has passed our lips for two years unless on our holidays people laugh. I say let them laugh. Hope you succeed Rick. We love our life now. Although chocolate and caramel coffee is addictive😂
Congratulations on your move Rick. It is often a difficult decision for anyone to make such a big lifestyle change. This guy's books seem to be hitting the spot. 👏
High iron levels cause all sorts of gut problems, and of course, alcohol absorbs iron. I had a similar problem to Lisa, so I had to cut my drinking right back. I never drank too much, but it was way too much for my gut. At the end of the day, your health is your wealth.

Well done, Rick. Never had a problem with drink. I can go months without it. But i do binge when i have it. I could do with one that stops me eating. 😁
