Yves Saint Laurent was THE most talented and creative fashion designer ever. If you can beat Karl Lagerfeld in a competition, you own the stage. He was a mastermind and a visionary. What we have today is mainly copycats who just scream "me-me-me"! YSL was singing fashion, now everyone just screams.
The most talented was Cristobal Balenciaga. Many designers themselves admitted that. What killed Balenciaga at that time was the street wear.
Ironically nowadays Balenciaga is one of the most hyped street wear brands, thanks to Demna Gvasalia.
No. Not that everyone is copying each other. Look at Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta, Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino (he a bit copied Bottega at his ss20/21 though 😢 ) or Oliver Rousteng at Balmain (doing his own design language for around 10 years).
@@vadimbrilyantov4881 actually the biggest factor that killed the brand of Balenciaga back then was not street wear, it was him. He decided to shut down Balenciaga during his time because he was done designing clothes, he wanted to retire, he would even tell his clientele to go to his apprentice, Hubert Givenchy, if they wanted to. And when he died he took the house with him, though the rights to use “Balenciaga” was given to a next of kin and was sold and thus why “Balenciaga” the brand is still alive today.
But yes Cristobal Balenciaga was hands down one of the, if not, the greatest couturier to ever live. Even his competitors such as Dior and Chanel acknowledged that.
you forgot 2 mention he was the first designer to put women of colour on the runways of the world and started the modelling careers of the world's most iconic super models like Naomi Campbell

The YSL label will always have a place among his unique “cult” followers. Although expensive, you can expect extremely high quality, perfect fit, and exquisite designs. I personally own many pieces of the more modern Saint Laurent label, era Heidi Slimane/Anthony Vaccarello and love them.

He is easily the most iconic celebrity figure to showcase saint laurent mens and had an incredible fashion sense also.
