  • Hour Two of "Meet the Candidate" features Attorney Robyn L. McCoy & Attorney TM Martin chatting over coffee with Tosan A, Knight, a candidate for Detroit City Council in District 4 on the far East side of Detroit, which is technically an open seat.
Knight is the former Deputy District Manager in District 4, under current Mayor Mike Duggan and Founder and President of "Caught Up," a youth mentoring program that once mentored a Black Lives Matter leader, and currently operates to bring free "wrap-around type'" programming to city youth.
Knight's day job is now as Dean of Culture at Western International High School, Detroit largest and most diverse school in it's educational system.
The Candidate ticks off the issues the people are most concerned with, and how he has a good working relationship with the incumbent mayor that once included counseling the mayor on protest issues, where Knight was brought in to mediate and peace-make during a Detroit Will Breathe protest in the aftermath of the Hakeem Little police shooting. Knight discusses his platform and gives his take on food desserts, vaccines, crime, technology and policing, including Detroit's Green Light Program monitored via Detroit Police Departments Real Time Crime Center, and facial recognition technology, plus more.
Note: The Politico Coffee Official Facebook page lit up with posts upon Knight's appearance today and contained well wishers, fans and other candidates!
