This is hilarious in a way. My mother found out that one of our ancestors was a black creole woman who was owned by our white grandfather. Upon his death , he set her free but his full white children from his actual marriage tried to keep her as a slave. She eventually won her freedom… American history is full of craziness like that.

However, her husband was White. So it's both, the Mulattos from before Emancipation come from White admixture outside of consent, some Mulattos from after the war had chose White partners.

I did my ancestry and found I was very close to 50/50 Irish and Scottish. I have looked up a few famous people and found Kamala Harris to be quite interesting. Her mother if fully Indian. Her father turns out to be half black and half Scottish and Irish. So the first Indian Senator and first Black VP, is 3/4 Caucasian.
I would venture to say, very few white people have ancestors who owned slaves while Blacks have a much higher presence of of slave owning ancestry.

The entire concept of reparations based on "race" is stupid. What needs to be done is uplifting people of ALL backgrounds equally. I am of mixed Russian/Ukrainian descent. I also probably have Jews in my ancestry, I probably have Muslims of different nationalities, and possibly some Gypsies and even Germans and Swedes probably. Also, just like the vast majority of people from Europe, I also have many ancestors from prehistoric Africa...

What matters is what A PERSON DID, NOT WHAT HIS/HER ANCESTORS DID. I don't care if her grandpa was a red-headed Irish peasant, a light-skinned Portuguese slave merchant, a serial Viking rapist, or a darkskinned Nubian pharaoh (who also probably bought and sold tons of slaves and raped his servants), I just don't care.

I come from two US Creole families but I knew that.I would not imagine that there would not be US African Americans with high levels of African, Indigenous, and European. I am 1/3 German ,Scottish, Irish, and Norwegian, Maghreb Jew, and Mauritanian and Senegalese, and Kickapoo Indigenous.
As a Black American it infuriates me when black community ask for reparations, and then I ask why not ask for reparations from African Tribes first. Or better yet tap that blood and lets see if your ancestors were slave owners.

Reparations is such a dumb concept. Slavery is evil, we get that, does not mean you have the rights to the decedent's money when they had nothing to do with it.
Race is by phenotype. She if she’s half black, then it’s because she was of mulatto descent. A lot of mulattos needed to marry each other so their children can have a better life as house slaves. They were still treated horribly just not as horribly as non mulattos. Also, so many other people groups got reparations for injustices: Jews & Japanese to name 2. If anything, people should get reparations for living in Jim Crow, which happened a mere 60 years ago.

I don’t know how many people think this but surely most African Americans can see the difference between their skin colour and modern Africans so why so much surprise when many discover they have white ancestors like their light skinned countrymen?
