The past couple of years I've gone from listening to entirely western metal to listening to 90% Japanese metal, with LOVEBITES reigning supreme. Didn't see that coming. 🐺
Last night I was perusing the concerts I could go to this year and in March Saxon and WASP are playing locally both celebrating 40 years. Having seen them in the mid 80s amongst many other great acts of that decade I decided to watch the 2021 Tokyo concert of Lovebites. Two hours and few beers later I decided not to revisit my past! Having seen Lovebites play alongside Dragonforce I decided to wait and see Lovebites again amongst others!! 😎🤟
@noelle3551 I missed out on Lovebites when they visited the UK, as I hadn't discovered them at that time. Have been lucky enough to see Megadeth play live twice and meet Mustaine and Kiko. The No1 goal now is to see Lovebites and then Unlucky Morpheus...saving the pennies for that day. 🐺

Asami on vocals, Miyako and Midori on guitar, Miho on bass here, Haruna on drums. Miho left in 2021. Fami joined as the new bassist , late 2022. The band was named after the Grammy winning Halestorm song, Love Bites (So Do I). Lead singer , Asami, has been on stage with Halestorm performing that song. Btw, did you see the piano on stage? Oh yes! Finally! They've become literally my favorite band, especially to listen to and watch live. So musically gifted, and so much talent on stage. They all have really interesting backgrounds, and Asami's voice has so much depth and power. She's got an R&B background, which may be where you're picking up those Broadway sort of belts. She didn't know what metal even was until she was invited to sing here. Miyako (guitarist stage left) is a classical pianist. The white dresses have a story. On founding the band they decided they wanted to show that metal could be a positive thing, so they only wear white, and only sing positive lyrics. I really hope you do another one that showcases both Asami's range and Miyako's talents. The typical recommendation there would be one of the "E" songs. I'll go with the lesser reacted "Empty Daydream" which also features some really nice vocal harmonies, but "Edge of the World" is glorious. "Swan Song" (with the Chopin intro) is a straight up masterpiece though, and I'd recommend that too. If you want more of this unbridled chaos, then I'd highly recommend the show opener "Thunder Vengeance" (live from Zepp - this show). It's amazing. "Set the World on Fire" showcases more of her belting and has an amazing chorus and solo section. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I have been suggesting it and waiting to see what you thought. One of the best band in any genre especially LIVE. Here the little stage general Asami (4' 10") who never sang metal till she joined LB, thunders out over world class musicians who blend the best of classical metal with classic music influences and elevates it to a whole new level in their unique style. Asami was a backup R & B/Soul/Jazz singer as well as a trained ballerina. She defines this band, class, grace, femininity and then plain in your face talent. Dressed in white as they are all petite and easier to see on stage, their high heels and love of their music makes this a must see. I hear you. My advice is not to bother with those who are ignorant and I don't give the the space they crave. Asami is unique among Japanese lead vocalist in metal bands. Many still don't like her high sound and lack of growling. Fine your opinion , I hate growling per se but accept it. Asami is as good a singer as any and while she is no Floor, she is just as dominant on stage and is perfect for this band. I have had debates about her but with people I respect not trolls. Her and Haruna at 4' 9" are an inspiration to anyone that size only holds your talent it doesn't define it. Those that chose to skip this band are the losers, one of the best 5 bands I have ever experienced in a lifetime that goes back to Cream (1966-68).when you have experienced people like Hendrix live as I was lucky enough to, well you can be sure my designation is well earned by this group of world class musicians. My friends still insist having this much talent in one band is illegal and they should be broken up (LOL). Rather than wasting time on trolls spend it listening to music you love, you will be a lot happier and the trolls will have to find someone else to try and waste their time not enjoying great music. There is so much great music and not enough time to truly enjoy it so I prefer to ignore the trolls. Your taste is great and those that disagree are losing out!!
In a 2021 concert a few years after this one, Asami held the final note 7 seconds longer. Her top range has an even higher octave in other songs. Most notebly in a Lovebites cover of Judas Priest's 'Painkiller'. Asami note for note can hang and nearly matches with Robert Halford. The cover itself is problebly the best cover ever done on Painkiller.
The next step could be "Chopin etude+Swan song", then one's 3E songs: "Edge of the World", "Empty daydream" and "Epilogue" and finally "Frozen serenade". Thanks.

Asami was engaged in the classic ballet for about 16 years. This is noticeable by her movements on stage, especially by hand movements .

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song, “Judgement Day” on December 22. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They recently announced their new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. I only heard them for the first time about 3 months ago(this video!), and I starting kicking myself for not starting sooner. I also recommend 'Swan Song', as several people already have. I also recommend 'Judgement Day', which just came out over the holidays and showcases their new bassist, and it's a bit more symphonic.

Thank you. Really, thank you. Asami is the vocalist of a band I consider the best I’ve ever heard in 50 years of listening to music. She also happens to be my favourite band member…but the margins are extremely slender! I’ve been pleading with what few vocal experts I know on RUclips to listen to Asami because she is rock’s best kept secret when it comes to vocals. The reason I only know a handful of vocal channels is because night after night I try to catch every Lovebites reaction, especially first time reactions. Honestly, I don’t think Holy War is the best song to introduce someone to her vocals. The band, yes, because it’s a great example of the wall of sound that they can produce, but it doesn’t give Asami much variety, whereas the majority of their songs do. There is a recording of a live performance of Holy War from the live DVD a little over a year later, and the improvement is noticeable. On their latest releases she’s even more impressive, seriously. The singer is Asami. She spent 2 yrs in the USA trying to start a singing career in R & B and Soul. She worked as a backup vocalist, but not much more success that she went back to Japan and auditioned for this band.
10 months is too long to go without Lovebites! It's time for more! They've released a ton of videos from their newest show "Knockin at Heavens Gate". I recommend Hammer of Wrath, but you can't go wrong with any of them. Great video!
Thank you for reacting to Lovebites!!! Since you’re a vocal coach, I guess you would be interested about the lead vocalist (Asami) background. Before joining Lovebites in 2016, becoming a metal-singer, she was previously an RnB and Jazz singer (she has had vocal coaching), and she is also a trained (for a decade or so) ballet dancer, hence her fluid arm movements you could see and appreciate especially during live shows. Asami’s voice is a classic mezzo-soprano. She doesn’t have the top notes of a soprano, but she can easily drop down to the lower range of an alto when necessary. She could sing whatever she wants - opera, pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, you name it. Asami puts everything into every song. She said in an interview that she always sings as if it’s the last time she ever will. She is just 5'0" tall, but her presence on stage is absolutely noticeable: during the live shows she commands the crowd, even without saying a word (during the singing breaks). She is a power-house, with a lot of vocal stamina and one of the best lead-singer & front-women in the Metal scene these days!! Her nickname within the Lovebites fan base (Wolfpack) is: The One & Only Voice !!!

I LOVE watching reactors seeing their first Lovebites song. It gives me joy to see another person find this awesome group. In my opinion, Lovebites are the most talented musicians in a hard music band in the world today. They are elite level. For some (Western) people, the vocals can be problematic, as the singer (Asami) is singing in a non-native language (English), and so her pronunciation and enunciation are imperfect. But to fans, her vocal style is a feature, not a bug.

My formative years were mid 70’s thru mid 80’s and classic rock, hard rock, and metal was what I landed on. I would have never anticipated that by the 2020’s it would be little Japanese women carrying on the tradition. So much good out of Japan.
Believe me, Holy War is merely the beginning. You have to do any other too, they don't have bad somgs. The natural second choice would be Swan Song, with piano.
I'd love to see what you think of a couple of barbershop quartets. I recommend Bluegrass Student Union and Ringmasters (especially the latter's version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame medley). Some great performances, both as harmonic groups, but also as individuals. I think both quartets would blow your mind!
Anyway, there is no end to this band, from the individual members to the songs, from the history of the band to the instruments. There are too many things to write about! Love Bites are such a good choice. They make the phrase 'Girl Power' seem like a joke when you see some acts it has been applied to. LB's material just never stops, and it is rock solid on talent and skill. When you listen to Japanese radio, you hear a lot of really breathy, quiet female vocalists, where the sound has to be measured against their voice. They would be completely washed away in front of this much sound. It's obvious that Asami was never focused on developing in that direction as she has worked hard to develop a sound as strong and stable has she displays here (although her focus was not actually metal). The guitars have flair, speed and harmony and the drums...holy cow, does Haruna drive through this stuff at break neck speed. One song I haven't seen listed here in the comments is When Destinies Align, where give you ju~st a hint that the song may be resolving before the guitars absolutely howl like banshees against each other in one of the most intense duo solos I have ever seen. People heard the studio recording and assumed there was NO WAY they would ever be able to reproduce it live. Guess again.
You haven't reacted to Rachelle Ferrell till now? Seriously, she's the best there is, no one sings like her. Her technique, control, range and emotional expression is from another planet. There are so many superb female vocalists fronting musically excellent Japanese bands - Lovebites, Band-Maid, Babymetal, Wagakki Band, Nemophila to name but a few.
I wanted to leave a comment for a band suggestion you should make a reaction video for next. after I saw some video on your channel, it seems you also need to get to know them. they are Voice of Baceprot, a heavy metal rock band female trio from Indonesia. they have already made their trip for shows in europe 2 times in 2021 and 2022 and performed at wacken open air. I recommend you react to their singles like, God Allow me please to play music, School Revolution, Not public Property, and PMS (Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya or Women are completely free in English). or you can also react to the songs they have cover like enter sandman, sabotage, or got the time. Lovebites are excellent, they and a related band Nemophila (they both have ex-Destrose members), have been getting a lot of attention lately for good reason. Destrose was a pioneering all female Japanese Heavy Metal band that never had commercial success and suffered from member turnover (about 19), which has spawned about a dozen bands and a handful of solo careers. The singer of Nemophila, Mayu, is also excellent but in a different way than Asami of Lovebites; NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION [Official Live Video] ruclips.net/video/6zH045LdjBo/видео.html . Lately Lovebites has been promoting another related new band Lonesome_Blue (again ex-Destrose member) which is more of a rock/metal fusion/hybrid, and yes the singer, Maiko Nomura, is excellent but in a different way than Asami or Mayu; Lonesome_Blue「Face The Fear」 ruclips.net/video/57My6iSPBl4/видео.html (no live videos yet). Definitely both songs are well worth the listen I love Sail Away it is their first attempt at a ballad and it came out amazing and Mars I love Sam's solo to start it off.
The past couple of years I've gone from listening to entirely western metal to listening to 90% Japanese metal, with LOVEBITES reigning supreme. Didn't see that coming. 🐺

Last night I was perusing the concerts I could go to this year and in March Saxon and WASP are playing locally both celebrating 40 years. Having seen them in the mid 80s amongst many other great acts of that decade I decided to watch the 2021 Tokyo concert of Lovebites. Two hours and few beers later I decided not to revisit my past! Having seen Lovebites play alongside Dragonforce I decided to wait and see Lovebites again amongst others!! 😎🤟
@noelle3551 I missed out on Lovebites when they visited the UK, as I hadn't discovered them at that time. Have been lucky enough to see Megadeth play live twice and meet Mustaine and Kiko. The No1 goal now is to see Lovebites and then Unlucky Morpheus...saving the pennies for that day. 🐺

The band was named after the Grammy winning Halestorm song, Love Bites (So Do I). Lead singer , Asami, has been on stage with Halestorm performing that song.

Oh yes! Finally! They've become literally my favorite band, especially to listen to and watch live. So musically gifted, and so much talent on stage. They all have really interesting backgrounds, and Asami's voice has so much depth and power. She's got an R&B background, which may be where you're picking up those Broadway sort of belts. She didn't know what metal even was until she was invited to sing here. Miyako (guitarist stage left) is a classical pianist. The white dresses have a story. On founding the band they decided they wanted to show that metal could be a positive thing, so they only wear white, and only sing positive lyrics. I really hope you do another one that showcases both Asami's range and Miyako's talents.
The typical recommendation there would be one of the "E" songs. I'll go with the lesser reacted "Empty Daydream" which also features some really nice vocal harmonies, but "Edge of the World" is glorious. "Swan Song" (with the Chopin intro) is a straight up masterpiece though, and I'd recommend that too. If you want more of this unbridled chaos, then I'd highly recommend the show opener "Thunder Vengeance" (live from Zepp - this show). It's amazing. "Set the World on Fire" showcases more of her belting and has an amazing chorus and solo section. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I have been suggesting it and waiting to see what you thought. One of the best band in any genre especially LIVE. Here the little stage general Asami (4' 10") who never sang metal till she joined LB, thunders out over world class musicians who blend the best of classical metal with classic music influences and elevates it to a whole new level in their unique style. Asami was a backup R & B/Soul/Jazz singer as well as a trained ballerina. She defines this band, class, grace, femininity and then plain in your face talent. Dressed in white as they are all petite and easier to see on stage, their high heels and love of their music makes this a must see. First all female Japanese band to play Wacken Open Air where they stunned the metalhead crowd. If you want to really hear Asami try Empty Daydream, Epilogue, or Edge of the World LIVE. I hear you. My advice is not to bother with those who are ignorant and I don't give the the space they crave. Asami is unique among Japanese lead vocalist in metal bands. Many still don't like her high sound and lack of growling. Fine your opinion , I hate growling per se but accept it. Asami is as good a singer as any and while she is no Floor, she is just as dominant on stage and is perfect for this band. I have had debates about her but with people I respect not trolls. Her and Haruna at 4' 9" are an inspiration to anyone that size only holds your talent it doesn't define it. Those that chose to skip this band are the losers, one of the best 5 bands I have ever experienced in a lifetime that goes back to Cream (1966-68).when you have experienced people like Hendrix live as I was lucky enough to, well you can be sure my designation is well earned by this group of world class musicians. My friends still insist having this much talent in one band is illegal and they should be broken up (LOL). Rather than wasting time on trolls spend it listening to music you love, you will be a lot happier and the trolls will have to find someone else to try and waste their time not enjoying great music. There is so much great music and not enough time to truly enjoy it so I prefer to ignore the trolls. Your taste is great and those that disagree are losing out!!

In a 2021 concert a few years after this one, Asami held the final note 7 seconds longer. Her top range has an even higher octave in other songs. Most notebly in a Lovebites cover of Judas Priest's 'Painkiller'. Asami note for note can hang and nearly matches with Robert Halford. The cover itself is problebly the best cover ever done on Painkiller.
The next step could be "Chopin etude+Swan song", then one's 3E songs: "Edge of the World", "Empty daydream" and "Epilogue" and finally "Frozen serenade". Thanks.

Asami was engaged in the classic ballet for about 16 years. This is noticeable by her movements on stage, especially by hand movements .

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song, “Judgement Day” on December 22. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They recently announced their new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their first song with Fami is “Judgement Day” ruclips.net/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/видео.html
The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Thank you. Really, thank you. Asami is the vocalist of a band I consider the best I’ve ever heard in 50 years of listening to music. She also happens to be my favourite band member…but the margins are extremely slender! I’ve been pleading with what few vocal experts I know on RUclips to listen to Asami because she is rock’s best kept secret when it comes to vocals. The reason I only know a handful of vocal channels is because night after night I try to catch every Lovebites reaction, especially first time reactions.
Honestly, I don’t think Holy War is the best song to introduce someone to her vocals. The band, yes, because it’s a great example of the wall of sound that they can produce, but it doesn’t give Asami much variety, whereas the majority of their songs do. There is a recording of a live performance of Holy War from the live DVD a little over a year later, and the improvement is noticeable. On their latest releases she’s even more impressive, seriously.
I would recommend you check out “Empty Daydream” from “Daughters of the Dawn” (2019) to see how sweet her voice is and how much passion she puts into a moving but still upbeat vocal performance.

The singer is Asami. She spent 2 yrs in the USA trying to start a singing career in R & B and Soul. She worked as a backup vocalist, but not much more success that she went back to Japan and auditioned for this band.

Since you’re a vocal coach, I guess you would be interested about the lead vocalist (Asami) background.
Before joining Lovebites in 2016, becoming a metal-singer, she was previously an RnB and Jazz singer (she has had vocal coaching), and she is also a trained (for a decade or so) ballet dancer, hence her fluid arm movements you could see and appreciate especially during live shows.
Asami’s voice is a classic mezzo-soprano. She doesn’t have the top notes of a soprano, but she can easily drop down to the lower range of an alto when necessary. She could sing whatever she wants - opera, pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, you name it.
Asami puts everything into every song. She said in an interview that she always sings as if it’s the last time she ever will.

In my opinion, Lovebites are the most talented musicians in a hard music band in the world today. They are elite level.
For some (Western) people, the vocals can be problematic, as the singer (Asami) is singing in a non-native language (English), and so her pronunciation and enunciation are imperfect. But to fans, her vocal style is a feature, not a bug.

The singer, Asami, started out as a blues/ r&b/ gospel-ish style artist.
Now you have to react to Band Maid! They have two vocalists, Saiki is the main vocalist, with Miku on backups and lead on some songs. I recommend the live version of Domination.
My formative years were mid 70’s thru mid 80’s and classic rock, hard rock, and metal was what I landed on. I would have never anticipated that by the 2020’s it would be little Japanese women carrying on the tradition. So much good out of Japan.

I'd love to see what you think of a couple of barbershop quartets. I recommend Bluegrass Student Union and Ringmasters (especially the latter's version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame medley). Asami is a force of nature
Love Bites are such a good choice. They make the phrase 'Girl Power' seem like a joke when you see some acts it has been applied to. LB's material just never stops, and it is rock solid on talent and skill. When you listen to Japanese radio, you hear a lot of really breathy, quiet female vocalists, where the sound has to be measured against their voice. They would be completely washed away in front of this much sound. It's obvious that Asami was never focused on developing in that direction as she has worked hard to develop a sound as strong and stable has she displays here (although her focus was not actually metal). The guitars have flair, speed and harmony and the drums...holy cow, does Haruna drive through this stuff at break neck speed. One song I haven't seen listed here in the comments is When Destinies Align, where give you ju~st a hint that the song may be resolving before the guitars absolutely howl like banshees against each other in one of the most intense duo solos I have ever seen. People heard the studio recording and assumed there was NO WAY they would ever be able to reproduce it live. Guess again.
You haven't reacted to Rachelle Ferrell till now? Seriously, she's the best there is, no one sings like her. Her technique, control, range and emotional expression is from another planet. I bet you've never seen a female singer like her. Have a listen to live at the Apollo "with open arms" or "I can explain" live. You won't regret it!

I wanted to leave a comment for a band suggestion you should make a reaction video for next. after I saw some video on your channel, it seems you also need to get to know them. they are Voice of Baceprot, a heavy metal rock band female trio from Indonesia. they have already made their trip for shows in europe 2 times in 2021 and 2022 and performed at wacken open air.
I recommend you react to their singles like, God Allow me please to play music, School Revolution, Not public Property, and PMS (Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya or Women are completely free in English). or you can also react to the songs they have cover like enter sandman, sabotage, or got the time. You can also watch them live like when they appear at the Rennes, Wacken, or Pasiwali festivals.

Lovebites are excellent, they and a related band Nemophila (they both have ex-Destrose members), have been getting a lot of attention lately for good reason. Destrose was a pioneering all female Japanese Heavy Metal band that never had commercial success and suffered from member turnover (about 19), which has spawned about a dozen bands and a handful of solo careers. The singer of Nemophila, Mayu, is also excellent but in a different way than Asami of Lovebites; NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION [Official Live Video] ruclips.net/video/6zH045LdjBo/видео.html .
Lately Lovebites has been promoting another related new band Lonesome_Blue (again ex-Destrose member) which is more of a rock/metal fusion/hybrid, and yes the singer, Maiko Nomura, is excellent but in a different way than Asami or Mayu; Lonesome_Blue「Face The Fear」 ruclips.net/video/57My6iSPBl4/видео.html (no live videos yet). They have been described as Lovebites Lite and as compitition to Band-Maid. Definitely both songs are well worth the listen I love Sail Away it is their first attempt at a ballad and it came out amazing and Mars I love Sam's solo to start it off.
