Carbohydrates turn out to be addictive. You eat them and then you want to eat more! Good business model for food and drug companies as we are all fat and sick.
Hmm I’m on Wegovy .25 I feel great I am eating better less snacking and my inflammation has been crushed. I still feel hungry but cannot eat as much. I don’t know why there is so much negativity when this is helping so many people!
Great that you're eating better and less snacking. That's the part the people don't want to confront. If eating habits aren't changed, no weight loss is sustainable. Best to you.
How refreshing to see a doctor who calmly discusses the pros and cons without raising their voice to hysteria levels, flailing their arms and making generalized statements that don’t apply to every case. Ozempic is a game-changer for me. A1C has dropped from 8 to 6.5, I’ve lost 24 lbs in 6 months (still more to go) and bp has dropped to 128/78. I am lucky I’ve not experienced many side effects except brief bouts of minor nausea. I’ll take that all day long over constant sugar cravings. Best way I’ve heard it described is that semaglutide “turns off the food noise in your head”. That’s exactly how it affects me. I’m very lucky to have a doctor (tho not an obesity specialist) who is very caring and follows my progress closely. Also have never had a problem securing Ozempic where I live in Canada. My only regret is that this miracle drug wasn’t available 40 years ago.
Around 20 years ago, I started Atkins & was using a diet program. I remember eating a lot of bacon and eggs in the morning. According to my diet program, I was eating 3-4000 calories a day and yet lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks.
As I understand it, the very restrictive Atkinson-type high-protein, low-carb diets work well, but people don’t stick to them, because the diet is monotonous. Reverting to their pre-Adkins diet, people put the weight back on. Would you agree?
@@stillhere1425Well I don't know of any specific research as to why people revert but here are a couple of my own ( worthless 🤔) thoughts . I am not sure how restrictive Atkins is ? It restricts a lot of processed , high sugar , high bad fat , and carbs that are not really appropriate for human consumption, but mostly that is a ' good thing ' . One problem is that we live in a society where trash foods are highly available but following an Atkins diet needs a bit of planning . Difficult with our busy lives . Another aspect is that people still have a ' special diet ' attitude to weight loss . So you aim for a target weight and once achieved you can do what you like - weight gain is inevitable with that mind set . Low carb , High fat diets are meant to be adopted as a permanent lifestyle not as a temporary destination. This is particularly true for people who put on weight easily because they are particularly sensitive to carbs . For those people they might have some bread once they have reached their target weight, as a treat , but this can easily open up the carb addiction cycle - similar to an alcoholic who thinks having one drink will be ok . My own experience is that combining Atkins type advice with IF has been life saving . I used to be a high wholegrain vegetarian and despite being an sporting was getting fatter and sicker . It was reading , by chance , The Zone that I first read about insulin resistance. It saved my life , but the advice in there was a bit incomplete. The Zone recommends small regular meals . It was only when I found Dr Jason Fung and adopted IF that some very stubborn weight finally went away . Thanks for reading - have a good day ✌️.

Thank God we can do our own research. Your primary physician is not the expert on any medicine - your pharmacist is. They will explain to you and you can ask for the drug insert.
Thanks for sharing this with us and telling the truth! You have helped me a lot with weight and numerous health issues! I'm 72 and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Over 2 years ago I went keto then carnivore and lost ALL my excess weight, am no longer type 2 diabetic, anxiety and depression are gone, and my chronic pain is minimal!! Also no longer have fatty liver!! This way of eating is better than any medicine. Also now I am off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions!! God bless you for ALL you do!! ❤🤗🙏🙏
How do you know people are not eating healthy?Diabetic here. Off several prescriptions. No longer over weight. You have to change your eating habits no matter what diet you go on.Yes, I am on Ozempic. I am glad and I will always take it.Yes, I lost 50 without it.plus 60 with it.I had nothing to lose by trying this medication.Glad you are healthy and feeling better.
@@paulawalton4410 I'm glad ozempic is working for you, but I have read and heard about so many bad side effects of it. Lots of people, including friends, have a lot of nausea with it, and have heard of a number of people who have experienced paralysis of the stomach and gastrointestinal problems. And I have no doctors who tell anyone to change their diet, whether for diabetes or weight loss. Most people I know eat a LOT of ultra processed foods, carbs, and sugar. Just wish more doctors would tell patients that what we eat DOES matter. Glad you are doing well! God bless you!! ❤️🙏🙏
My friend was put on Ozempic to help reduce his insulin dose. He could not eat anything without stomach pain, headache and nausea, daily. Actually starving. He lost 90 lbs but has noticed major muscle loss as well. He's also become quite irritable and depressed. He's afraid to quit Ozempic for fear that his insulin meds will increase with inevitable weight gain. He didn't learn how or what to eat over the last 18 months. He knows the risks but is still planning to remain on it, for life, if need be.
The fact that he is still nauseous and sick daily is the direct result of him not learning how to eat. You can’t take this medicine and still eat crap food and expect not to be sick. If he hasn’t learned what to eat in 18 months, then he only has himself to blame.
Especially interesting how many of those off label uses actually had studies backing them for viral use, and even more studies backing them post pandemic
The high dose was for animals..Only an idiot would buy that at a feed store and take that high dose not meant for people! Ivermectin has been around for years and mainly for people traveling outside of the United States. My doctor never lost his license. Ivermectin kept me out of the hospital. One dose and a few hours later, I was fine.
I just finished my 3rd Ozempic pen. I am not getting a 4th. I’ve had headaches and ridiculous diarrhea and didn’t lose a thing. My pastor is convinced that his mother-in-law died due to complications from Ozempic. My doc did NOT tell me what to eat at all!! Nope. I’m done. Carnivore starting June 1st!! I can hardly wait!!!
Zepbound had none of the bad effects I had with Wegovy. No headaches, no nausea or diarrhea. Good loss at 5mg for months without needing to up the dose, and it helped me transition to carnivore easier. But your mileage may vary.
No one mentions peri and menopausal weight gain that is stagnant with weight training, eating healthy with high protein and in a deficit that this drug has helped.
Lost 70 pounds doing the Westman protocol and a 12 step food program to address the emotional eating and reversed my type 2 DM. Plateued for two years still at a high weight where I was neurotically removing everything nuts, artificial sweeteners, dairy, etc with no additional loss. Also, a previous gastric sleeve person that never really lost much weight. Started Zepbound two months ago in addition to still eating low carb and have now lost an additional 14#. I see it as an additional tool and it's given me hope back. I don't think it's about just eating less because I did that with gastric sleeve and still gained all my weight back. I stay on the lowest dose for now even though the weight loss is slow to minimize side effects. I am very careful about getting enough protein in and weight training to prevent muscle loss. I know if I return to the high carb way of life my T2DM will return. It is still a lot of work, but at least I am seeing results and I feel amazing. This is just my two cents but it seems to be helping this metabolically broken girl! Thanks for all you do!
Yup… that is why you go off meds for a week before scheduled surgery. For unscheduled surgeries you are at same risk as anyone else who might have just eaten.
Thank you Dr. Westman. You always approach the information from a neutral standpoint and try to fairly discuss from all angles. No hype just a calm look at the facts as we know them.
I know you will set the facts straight. I don't know if you remember me but we met in Houston and I told you how you saved me from a very bad experience with ketoacidosis and SGLT drugs. I understand you are spreading the word about that problem. So, I know you will set the record straight on GLP1 drugs.
@Ronlawhouston I ended up in hospital for five days with severe ketoacidosis (specifically euglycemic DKA) back in 2018, six weeks after I started a keto diet. I was on (you guessed it!) Forxiga, an SGLT-2 inhibitor!
@@masterchiefburgess I was lucky. I had a ketone meter and had heard Doctor Westman talking about this issue. One day, I felt so tired I could barely move. I came home and checked my ketones. The meter would read up to 9. All it said was "HI". I stopped the drug spent 3 days sleeping and recovered.
For me, Mounjaro which is a cousin of Ozempic, worked great. I *really* needed it for about a year. It took almost a year for me to be able to get my diet dialed in properly where I didn't suffer from *constant* hunger. I couldn't eat a proper human diet due to those cravings. It didn't matter that I was doing keto and tried to do carnivore, I was constantly hungry even when physically stuffed. Mounjaro cut the cravings down to where I could finally eat normal meals and be content. After a year of doing that and slowly transitioning from keto to carnivore, today I'm not constantly suffering. My weight loss has significantly slowed down compared to when I was on mounjaro but it's been nearly 6 months since my last prescription of it ran out (and no one had a supply so I slowly weaned myself off from that Jan 9th refill) and today I'm living 95%+ carnivore diet. I cheat occasionally to see how my CGM reacts but I don't have any "keto" treats in my freezer like I did previously to help with the constant cravings. My only real regular cheat is diet cranberry juice watered down.
@@emh8861 I do something similar to that. Grape crystal light liquid + malic acid and generic beef gelatin powder I buy in 3 lb jugs. Knock off sour grape jello is my go to treat.
I wish that we could come to a doctor like you who specializes in obesity medicine. When we go to the regular doctor or pediatrician for any health problem they ignore our concerns and say that we need to lose weight. We know that. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be taken seriously for other health problems, even though they're exacerbated by the weight. And the regular doctor/ pediatrician doesn't really have anything to say except to eat less and exercise. Duh. Yet it's not that simple when you are overweight.
Thanks for such an objective evaluation. I applaud your option choice of only look to medicate if lifestyle change doesn't work. My alarm bell sounded when I read the press releases that already talked about people putting weight back on when they stopped with the drug - "So they may have to take them for the foreseeabble future". Best case is a massive new financial drain on health care. Worst case is multiple inforeseen health problems to be developed over time.
Totally agree. I was thinking the other day that this drug, with it’s astronomical price, will further stratify us as a people. The poor will not be able to afford to slim down in this way. Fortunately, Dr. Westman has a easy peasy solution for that. :)
@@paulawalton4410I don’t need a weight loss drug and wouldn’t take it under any circumstance. I control my weight with a low carb/ketogenic diet. Thank you.
I had a disagreement with my G.P. He said that eating foods high in cholesterol raises blood cholesterol. I told him that I didn't think that's necessarily true, that this issue is presently being studied. He wasn't happy.
I am very surprised that no Dr nor any overweight people mention Konjac Root Glucomannan, it is a powder that you can get from Amazon, 2 lbs of the powder cost less than $30. will last for a year , it Isa thickening Agent you add to food.,no taste it is natural root from Japan. Just a little powder added to food like cottage cheese is very filling. I have Hypothyroidism, no matter what I did, could not lose weight. I am very happy to have found this a year ago. No side effects whatsoever ,
I had annoying extra poundage which accumulated over a couple of decades. I would have been agog to try a medication that would help me lose weight without starving, but it so happened i decided to try a cabbage soup diet, which i found worked well for me. It provided bulk which prevented me from feeling super-hungry. I lost 20 pounds in 6 week which was good enough for me. I was so impressed i kept up my reading and viewing on medical topics. Now i am versed in the issue of hyperinsulinaemia and chronic disease and have changed my diet for good, to a keto pattern. This doctor is correct, the overweight is not the main problem. Ozempic is not the solution that obese people need.
For me just limiting carbohydrates to less than 20g a day gave me all the weight loss I wanted. I was only a couple of kg over my desired weight anyway so not a huge change but for me there was no keto flu or any other down sides I can think of. Ozempic has never appealed to me.
I was struggling with atypical anorexia and had the misfortune of getting type 2 diabetes. At one point my doctor at the time was fat shaming me, she knew I struggled with starving myself. She prescribed me ozempic which I totally abused at one point. I ended up ripping up my script and asked my dietician to write to my doctor that it wasn't a good idea for me to be on ozempic. I was so sick with the anorexia that in desperation I started the carnivore diet. It was the best thing I ever did. I've been able to develop an awesome relationship with food, get off blood pressure medicine and one diabetes tablet. I think I've lost 30 - 40 kgs since July. I lost 17 kgs in 14 weeks of carnivore and will get weighed soon to see how much I've lost. I didn't lose a lot on ozempic. It helped me to starve. I love carnivore as it helps me to be healthy. 😊❤ this was an informative video. Thank you for it. 😊
I'm in the same boat. I relapsed into anorexia after 11 years in recovery and I was put on ozempic after I ended up on dialysis for kidney failure, now I can't get on the transplant list. I am with you. Start strong my recovery sister!
I took wegovy for around 8 months, lost 50+ lbs. I had nearly zero side effects, only minor nausea. I changed my eating and exercise habits. Then i went off the drug, been off of it for 2 months. The first month off it I lost another 5 lbs, the second month off it I maintained. This is the first time in 10 years that I haven't been in a overweight bmi. I believe i can maintain, and will maintain with out the shot now. I feel better, I'm active again, I'm eating better, has been a great help to me. Currently able to do 40 pushups consecutively, was barely able to do 4 when i started. So seems i haven't lost muscle, but I've been exercising 4-5 days per week.
I was eating bread again and I blew up ten pounds in no time. I was getting puffy. Stopped bread (not all carbs) and it dropped 10 lbs in a few weeks. I ate sweet potato and bananas. What is the deal with BREAD? I ate a lot of it all my life and I always gained weight. Last time I bought bread at the store it made me sad because it doesn’t even taste good and I know what the results are.
So many preservatives in bread these days. I'm 60 and I remember as a kid a loaf of bread would be stale and moldy after just a few days on the counter. Try that today. Put a loaf of bread or a bag of hamburger buns on your counter and see how long it takes for them to get mold. It will be 3 weeks at least before the mold starts. I don't eat a lot of bread, but I love good fresh bread from a bakery. Most of my bread intake consists of a burger bun or two a month and maybe some good pizza once a month. That's about it for bread. I definitely miss it. Almost zero potatoes, pasta or rice. Sugar is my biggest demon.
Bread is definitely my food problem, I would eat it every day and my weight was aways going up. I just stopped buying it, only having it as a treat when out occasionally.Have felt better since and found it easier to control my weight.
That initial jump in weight when you exit low carb mode is usually mostly water, if you’re not eating a surplus of calories. When your body breaks down carbs, it’s stored as glycogen in your muscles (and liver), to later be used for energy. Every gram of glycogen is accompanied with ~4 grams of water. That weight is not fat and drops off just as quickly after you deplete those stores
I appreciate you addressing this. I was so disappointed in that other RUclips doctor’s comments about who deserves this medication. I took it for avoid diabetes and to aid me through a heart condition that eventually led to quintuple bypass surgery. I was on it for 11 months initially and it helped me survive thanks to increased circulation. I don’t think I’m more or less worthy of surviving than anyone else, but I also made early mistakes in my diet and exercise and had to painfully rebuild muscle.
Talked to microbiologist who told me that a new chemo has been sent to fda for approval. That person was hoping that the chemo would be approved quickly bc pancreatic cancer is going to increase bc of the current weight loss drugs.
An obesity medicine doctor is a game changer! I am so glad I found one. Down 59#, 19.4# increase in muscle mass, 1.4# increase in bone mass. I feel great and I’m losing about 1# a week. And yes, Monjourno is a tool that I’m using to help, along with diet, exercise, physical therapy, and counseling. These meds need to be used in the context of an array of therapies to treat the whole person.
It was the pen that was in shortage no the medicine. I’m on my second dose and I’m glad I’m taking it, on the third day, my heart changes was amazing. All of a sudden I could walk and not be winded. So it does good things to our hearts also. I even golfed 18 holes first time in a long time. Can’t wait to see cardiologist, maybe get of metoprolol and flecaide.
I was doing that for years and think it will help me a lot to transition onto ozempic which my insurance had pre-approved I found in the Ent office. A week in I have lost 7 pounds and my ankle edema is noticeably less. I bet this will be very available and soon. I wish you well and wish everybody who wants to try it the availability.
That was a treasure trove of information. Im not needing this type of help but just learning about different medical issues are invaluable. Thanks doc!
Type 2 here, I’m 80. Could no longer tolerate metformin. PCP changed me to Ozempic, about 2 years now. Before starting, I read up on reviews from folks using it. One man wrote he had some issues with it and tried injecting in thighs instead of abdomen and it went better for him. That’s what I have done always. Some issues from indigestion-probably dues to not following bland diet. Never any nausea or vomiting. Have little appetite and have lost quite a bit of weight. In January/ 2024 my PCP upped my dose from the 0.5 to 1 but made indigestion much worse, so he honored my plea to go back to the 0.5 dose. Eating more meat, lost more weight. Hope this helps. Inject alternate thigh each week.
isn't this going to induce GERD over time? I had severe GERD + occasional stomach paralysis, which is not something you want to find out about in the middle of the night. Cured with carnivore (along with every other ailment, including NAFLD)
I agree, it sounds like gastroparesis, slowing of the gut. I had it, but am off all meds for it and per a GI Dr, after tests, I do not have it. I wouldn't want to take a med that can cause it. Plus the whole "take this medication to treat the side effects of your current med" is madness.
If it slows emptying of the stomach I would be afraid it could cause gastroparesis which is a devastating condition where you CAN’T eat hardly anything because it sits in your stomach so long it makes you sick. I know someone who developed this condition and it’s awful!
100% correct!! Gastroparesis is EXTREMELY PAINFUL!! And I ended up hospitalized with " stroke like symptoms" because the pain was so intense, that it caused those " stroke like symptoms." That was it for me...no more!! I gained half of the weight back that I had lost with Ozempic...I was taking it for Diabetes but combined a Keto diet with the Ozempic...Its only been a short time( a few months) since I stopped the Ozempic but have lingering side effects that pop up from time to time. I am now doing Keto more or less and am losing weight again and no longer taking anything for Diabetes...my A1C was 6.0...so I am now considered " Pre Diabetic."
My concern is the Gastroparesis it has been causing as well as gallbladder and pancreatitis. We had 11 employees in this drug 8 developed these conditions and required surgery. Two had gall bladders removed.
This video helped open my eyes to one of my own ridiculous practices. Too much (any) sugar and/or gluten which gives me joint pain that I take Tylenol for. I just change what I eat and I don’t need to take the drugs.
What a short memory we have. Didn't we learn anything from the Phen Phen craze in the 90's? If you want to be healthy just eat a healthy diet , stay away from the sugar and don't over eat. Everything is a trade off , nowadays people want to eat and drink like pigs , take a pill and think everything will be alright. What ever happened to will power , self control and also self respect?
Not even close to this horrible drug. Peptides are naturally occurring. If used correctly and low dose they are safe. They can’t even be patented by the pharmaceutical industry. The same pharmaceuticals that are overdosing and too quickly titrating people. Not the same as phen phen not even close.
My big issue with dr mike is just his lack of experience, he is in his early 30's. Most of what he has done up until now has been under a lot of supervision. He started his channel before he even got his license, which seems irresponsible to me. He talks about a lot of things that in practice he would refer to a specialist, but speaks with a lot of "authority" I much perfer the more seasoned voices like this channel that dont seem to be carrying so much water for big pharma
These medications are available by the truck load in Mexico. Without prescription. Dr. Mike is correct. People are using these meds to drop 10lbs for a wedding 😢. Anyone who wants it, take a trip to Mexico. It was difficult to get here in Colombia but now more and more available
I’m having great success with Ozempic and OMAD IF. I occasionally get into ketosis. I’ve lost about 30 lbs and looking forward to my next lab work results. I have NAFLD, high insulin, HgbA1C 5.7. My inflammation is way down. I’m grateful for this medicine but it should accompany dietary changes.
Dr Mike lost all of my respect when he was preaching about the importance of wearing masks, and then was seen partying on his boat without masks and multiple people on board.
We are humans not robots😢. We are not made for injecting toxic chimicals or taking toxic drugs😢. Proper Human Diet/ intermenting fasting workes great for humans❤ thanks to dr. Ken Berry, that he saves millions of lives everyday, including mine❤
Glad you are okay. Not everyone has a choice when it comes to prescriptions.Do you think a person with high blood pressure should not take their medication? What about someone with Type 1 Diabetes?Someone in chronic pain? What about someone who has cancer or a thyroid problem? Not everyone is overweight that takes medications. plus, you are assuming everyone does not eat healthy that is not always the case.I know plenty of people who are not overweight that take medications and they eat healthy.
That stuff is shocking considering what we learned over the years about how magical low carb is and how the body self regulates when you feed it correctly.
I took semiglutide for 5 weeks. I never lost my appetite or felt full. An occasional headache and never lost 1 pound. I exercise regularly and watch what I eat. What it did do for me, was cause depression. Not worth it.
So odd, I wonder why it didn’t work for you. I am on the second day of week 5 and I have lost 21 pounds, no depression at all. In fact helped increase my energy
@@April-xs9tk That is awesome! I wish it had worked for me. Just one of the side effects some people get. I will continue to workout and eat whole foods..

Slow and steady has to be the best I’m sure
I lost 100lbs just staying away from Carbs and eating salads to increase my fiber intake. My A1C went from 8 to 5.6. Then my Dr put me on Ozempic and sticking with low carb plus exercise I dropped another 60lbs. My A1C is now 4.9 and I only take .5 mg of Ozempic a week, down from 1mg. I gained 10 lbs but I supplement with Creatine, protein shakes. I get in around 8-10 miles a day at my job. I also do F3 boot camp workouts 3 days a week. My pants keep getting looser and my body is reshaping into and getting stronger. I'm 47 and can now jog and I can rip out 60 push ups without stopping. I honestly think if you're on this medication. You need to be proactive at getting your diet and exercise figured out first. My Dr wouldn't give it to me until I lost that first 100lbs. That enabled me to get my fitness goals in sight and the medication has put me over the edge to get the to my goal of 200lbs. I don't think I'm going to get there just because of how much muscle I'm gaining. I have veins popping out on my arms, legs and I'm starting to see abs. My issue is my loose skin now. I feel like a new man. It's taken me 2 years to get to 225 from 375lbs . My lowest was 212lbs. I make sure to eat at least 180-200 grams of protein a day. Whether it be shakes, fish, beef, chicken or eggs. I do it everyday and try to keep my carbs under 40 grams a day while getting in lots of fiber.
I wonder what the general hormonal profile is of a group doing multi day water fast vs a group taking Wagovi who greatly reduce their food intake. I would bet there would be meaningful differences.
Is Victoza the same type of drug? I'm curious because I was on it for 7 months but I only took half the dose because I was so constipated I finally quit taking it in january and had diarrhea for a month but now back to normal. I have been doing low carb and have lost 10 lb since discontinuing Victoza shots.
I think everyone is different on this drug. But I do think there are types of user. I’m the change everything about me type. I’m went from stationary to working out 4 days a week. Plus walking 30 mins off days. This is when I’m disabled and use a walker. I also changed my diet fast food only on rare occasions like my bday. Mostly meat and vegetables for diet. I would say my diet is 80-90%health food 10-20% treat. I need to add weight lifting on days not swimming. I’m a bit nervous being disabled. I think I might get a personal trainer. My point is there are some users that change everything. I also added fasting, tracking, taking vitamins.

I lost 110 pounds in a little over 6 months but starting me on mounjaro because my glucose didnt respond like we thought it would have. I have concerns but would rather risk complications than losing my eye sight or lose a foot. Hope nobody bashes me too hard for that choice in the comments.
I was on Victoza 6 years ago for diabetes type 2 and to lose weight. It helped me lose weight but it made my mouth so dry, I was going to the bathroom every hour. I would throw up after eating something that was oily even though I was told I didn't have to change my diet. I stopped using it when I got pregnant with my son ( now 4 ) and I am on ketovore diet now.
Although I am a T2D in remission for over three years, I would have never considered taking a GLP-1 agonist like Ozempic. Having stated that, i believe intermittent and extended-fasting are a better bet for treating metabolic syndrome. Having been hospitalized with DKA, from the day I took my first drop of insulin to the last was exactly 40 days.
A good doctor spotted that I was in pain offered me pain relief. I politely told him to shove his Analgesic s. I will solve the problem NOT the symptoms
Everyone recommending Carnivore diet, how do you afford it? In Canada meat is nearly unaffordable. Chicken, Beef, Pork above affordable unless you buy sausage, ground beef.
Asian markets like your local chinatown has all 3 meats you're asking for and they sell fish and other seafoods. Indian and other Middle Eastern markets sell Chicken, beef and lamb. Their prices are usually more reasonable than grocery chains owned by Loblaws and Metro.
I was on semiglutide w/B12 for about 4 months. I’ve never had indigestion until I started it. My bowels slowed tremendously. I took magnesium for constipation. I took zofran for the nausea I had all the time. No energy. I wasn’t loosing that much weight so I have stopped all of the above and gone back to keto. Yes I am now “keto Sick”, but hoping I will get over it soon. I don’t recommend it. I am a nurse for over 30 years and it just wasn’t worth it for me.
It is from Denmark. My ancestors people would not invent something to harms others. I am one week on and feel great, clear headed, no cravings or food noise and down seven pounds! Correction: Ten and a half pounds!
It helps in so many other ways but if you are not a diabetic or able to lose a certain amount if weight over a certain amount of time insurance companies will take you off. It is insane because they have no issue covering as many other meds including gastric surgery, the Dr. wan't to prescribe to you. My weight loss has been very slow and add to it supply shortages and my loss has not been enough for the insurance.
I’m on ozempic (or was, insurance won’t cover it and I’m almost done with the sample). It’s done nothing other than lower my blood sugar levels (which is great), but I haven’t lost any weight. I’m also kinda grumpy. Not really a fan. I eat ketovore, but still on insulin. Blood sugar is hovering around 145 average with no real fluctuations since I don’t eat carbs.
T2Diabetics are not always able to get these meds! Yet, many are using this drug, and are not informed of the complex harm they cause... People are desperate, and either don't know/care if there are posdible issues. 😮
Everything time I tried berberine I was vimiti g and awful stomach pain, I even took the capsule apart and dumped out half. Still nausea and vomiting. Back to keto.. slow and steady loss but hitting a plateau that is going to require even fewer carbs.
Yes, lots of misinformation about these GLP-1 / GIP drugs. I'm on Mounjaro for A1c and I have to fight against the weight loss effects. The reason is that I'm trying to do bodybuilding which requires me to eat more and to gain more mass weight. And yet I don't feel like eating very much. Ironic.
People are (as always) told a 'curated' version of the information. I'm seeing too many folks who are using semaglutide "so I can lose weight and don't have to give up pizza". Insufficient screening, surveillance and parallel support.
My wife was on Moujaro until the insurance company refused to cover it. It seemed to work better than Ozempic. She is T2D and not overweight. She been doing carnivore for over a year. We went on vscation recently and she forgot to inject Ozempic before we left. Her blood sugar remained good that whole week and so she didnt inject ozempic for the next couple weeks but her blood glucose started creeping up again without it. With zero carbs her fasting bg was often over 150. She is now back on Ozempic and her bg is better but not back down where it was before our vacation.
I would love someone with a medical background to explain this to me as I can't get my head around it 🤯. How can you have ok sugars and then not without a change in diet? 😬
Has she been checked for T1 diabetes? Dr Ken Berry has a video about this. Apparently some people are incorrectly diagnosed as T2 when they are actually T1. I am not a medical professional.
@@jobrown8146 yes, although the last 2 times her doc ordered insulin checked in her labs, the lab messed up and did not do the test for fasting insulin. It was very frustrating. The only issue I can think of is stress. Her job is stressful and I think it affects her cortisol levels. She is going to retire early and hopefully that will help with blood glucose levels.
Lifestyle changes should be the very first thing that a medical professional addresses with their patients. I feel that Oprah has dismissed the role of each person's agency in being able to alter their lifestyle choices (because these are lifestyle diseases except for genetic and mental health issues). This new class of drugs will not remediate the behaviors from continued poor diet and activity choices, and the resultant health consequences. Rather, the drug will address the symptoms as a first intervention--and creating a lifelong dependency on these drugs v. addressing the cause. Regrettably, offering an injection is much more expedient than lifestyle management counseling.
I had four kids and was nauseous and vomiting several times a day, even with medication to prevent this, for 9 months each time. I am NOT going there again just to lose weight. I am strength training, eating well with tones of protein. And I am loosing weight. Ozempic would surely make me sick because my guts is so sensitive. Too bad lol
Nobody is addressing eating for emotional reasons.
Carbohydrates turn out to be addictive. You eat them and then you want to eat more! Good business model for food and drug companies as we are all fat and sick.
I think the cab addiction doc does that. Dr. Cywes, I think is his name. You might check him out
Great point! I am a stress eater and getting ready to start Wegovy and am scared to death I’ll be sick and not able to tolerate it.
Or nutritional needs
More often than not it’s an emotional reason. Food is very comforting.
Doctors like you give me hope.
Glps work great for me! Did way more for me combined with Keto than keto alone.
Same. Also weight training like crazy. Never felt better. :)
It is not natural this is probably why or no?
Because some people have bad side effects. It can effect the Thyroid and Pancreas
So your being told what you wanna hear
Me too. If only it had been available years ago. However, I’ll be 60 in October and have a lot of time to make up. Congratulations on your success!
Thank you for being the voice of reason Dr Westman.

Just do low carb and keep protein appropriate for height and weight
The fact that he is still nauseous and sick daily is the direct result of him not learning how to eat. You can’t take this medicine and still eat crap food and expect not to be sick. If he hasn’t learned what to eat in 18 months, then he only has himself to blame.
Poor chap Tell him to wake up and do low carb. Yell him to rid himself of the BIG BAD FOODS First cheers
@April-xs9tk
His doctor is to blame too.
F that
How interesting how much picking and choosing takes place regarding “off label” use of drugs. Covid comes to mind.
Yeah, they said it was for horses, and Drs. Lost their licenses. Hopefully they were DEI grads from UCLA.
Especially interesting how many of those off label uses actually had studies backing them for viral use, and even more studies backing them post pandemic
If you’re talking about the deworming pills that’s because there’s no evidence it’s useful for treating Covid.
Doesn’t it tho lol
I just finished my 3rd Ozempic pen. I am not getting a 4th. I’ve had headaches and ridiculous diarrhea and didn’t lose a thing. My pastor is convinced that his mother-in-law died due to complications from Ozempic. My doc did NOT tell me what to eat at all!! Nope. I’m done. Carnivore starting June 1st!! I can hardly wait!!!
Best to phase in keto/carnivore over a couple if weeks. Or expect issues and have to go through them.
@@wocket42yeah slow transition is best.
Zepbound had none of the bad effects I had with Wegovy. No headaches, no nausea or diarrhea. Good loss at 5mg for months without needing to up the dose, and it helped me transition to carnivore easier.
But your mileage may vary.
I became very sick, I stopped using it and I still have bowel issue.
Slowing gastric emptying could be catastrophic for people undergoing general anaesthetics.
there are already case studies and new guidelines for that reason afaik
it could be catastrophic in other ways too, from nutritional deficiencies to cancers; we have little data on long term use
Yup… that is why you go off meds for a week before scheduled surgery. For unscheduled surgeries you are at same risk as anyone else who might have just eaten.
You have to eat clean, no ultra processed Franken foods, and do strength resistance training, which is what we should be doing on or off of the shot.

Its working for me no problems.
Make jello with that cranberry juice. Use Knox gelatin. Great treat.

As someone with insulin resistance and elevated A1C, Ozempic is very helpful for me.
Mid-term only fixing your diet will help.
Totally agree. I was thinking the other day that this drug, with it’s astronomical price, will further stratify us as a people. The poor will not be able to afford to slim down in this way. Fortunately, Dr. Westman has a easy peasy solution for that. :)
Here is your Lizzo prescription.
Go to the manufacturer. They will pay for it if you qualify.

No side effects whatsoever ,
They don’t like us RUclips Post-Doc students, do they?
Thank you for the analysis.
Grains are desperation foods

Bread is definitely my food problem, I would eat it every day and my weight was aways going up. I just stopped buying it, only having it as a treat when out occasionally.Have felt better since and found it easier to control my weight.
Try Ezekiel bread which is a sprouted food

Not only eat more meat, eat also fewer carbs
isn't this going to induce GERD over time? I had severe GERD + occasional stomach paralysis, which is not something you want to find out about in the middle of the night. Cured with carnivore (along with every other ailment, including NAFLD)
I agree, it sounds like gastroparesis, slowing of the gut. I had it, but am off all meds for it and per a GI Dr, after tests, I do not have it. I wouldn't want to take a med that can cause it. Plus the whole "take this medication to treat the side effects of your current med" is madness.
Sssshhhh u two
LOL
Messing with these physiological functions is CRAZY talk
Yet the Ozempic craze…
Thank You Dr Westman for this video! I definitely prefer diet to medication.
Ozempic saved me from a second heart attack
All of this is very enlightening,,
Awesome info, thank you! 71 here T2D in my last visit to my doctor he mentioned ozempic is the next treatment; now I have all I need to say no.
Doses are too high. Why on earth won’t they micro dose these peptides? Curious
Challenge: Do 1 pushup (for resistance training) for every time you hear the phrase "muscle mass" in this video.
Amen.
My big issue with dr mike is just his lack of experience, he is in his early 30's. Most of what he has done up until now has been under a lot of supervision. He started his channel before he even got his license, which seems irresponsible to me. He talks about a lot of things that in practice he would refer to a specialist, but speaks with a lot of "authority"
I much perfer the more seasoned voices like this channel that dont seem to be carrying so much water for big pharma
Carnivore!!!!!! I’m sold because of how I feel on it.
These medications are available by the truck load in Mexico. Without prescription. Dr. Mike is correct. People are using these meds to drop 10lbs for a wedding 😢. Anyone who wants it, take a trip to Mexico. It was difficult to get here in Colombia but now more and more available
Eggs bacon rib eye water yogurt all my blood panel on point. No colon no prostate no diabetes 54 male
Stay well clear and use lifestyle changes to achieve weight loss.
Loved it !!!
Healthy lifestyle, having a better relationship with food is important as well.
Not some pill or drug to make you lose weight.
That stuff is shocking considering what we learned over the years about how magical low carb is and how the body self regulates when you feed it correctly.
Some folks don't need a restrictive diet like low carb in order to feed it correctly.
Didn’t work for you but it works for a lots of people
Works fantastic for me.
@@April-xs9tk That is awesome! I wish it had worked for me. Just one of the side effects some people get. I will continue to workout and eat whole foods..
@@Jaysgirl53 I have noticed that for a lot of people they didn’t lose much weight until the 6-8 week time frame. I wonder if that is what you were going through too. That’s great though that you are working out and keeping with it! I think that way has to be the healthier way. I feel like it can’t be super healthy to lose real fast either.
❤ im inspired
I stick with FATTY RED MEAT 🥩
YES, ME TOO!! I'm 72 and lost 88 lbs and am no longer type 2 diabetic, anxiety and depression are gone, chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are minimal, no more fatty liver, and I feel better than I have in over 25 years!! Have had 5 spinal fusions, also!! And I am now off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions!! LOVE THE FATTY RED MEAT!! And so does my body!! Love your comment!!
@@bettyjohnson2964 I'm 66 with basically the same story , Was Diabetic A1C 4.9 NOW , BP 165/90 to 114/74 335 lbs to 235 lbs 6'2" Eyesight Noticeably Improved and lots of things improved or Vanished
CARNIVORE!
It's like no one is talking keto now, all talking carnivore. It's only few years ago everyone was talking keto, and still talking red meats are harmful. When we get the real knowledge, correct information, things really go on the right direction fast and get accelerated.
@@LittleRadicalThinker can I assume that you are carnivore and seeing the benefits?? Keto, if clean real food, is MUCH better than the SAD, but I saw such amazing benefits after going carnivore!! It sounded too good to be true to me, but I decided what did I have to lose by trying it!! I thank God that I did!!
Saw a commercial for this drug and it said lose 20% of weight in 12 months along with diet and exercise. That can be done without the drug. Carnivore diet and a bit of exercise and it’ll probably take less than 12 months.
Carnivore is too restrictive for me. I enjoy fruits and veggies too much.
Go Carnivore, or at least low carb clean Keto.
Yikes- drugs to lose weight and then more drugs to treat the side effects! I bet the long term effects are going to be worse than expected.
Me too. I don't think its going to be a bad fallout
That’s hard to do and stick with it for a long time
I enjoy the music jinggle...
My endo (i have T2D) made me prove i can make lifestyle changes before she prescribed the meds. I lost 110 pounds in a little over 6 months but starting me on mounjaro because my glucose didnt respond like we thought it would have. I have concerns but would rather risk complications than losing my eye sight or lose a foot. Hope nobody bashes me too hard for that choice in the comments.
Yeah... Look up Gastroparesis. Somewhat rare complication but even a chance of that? All no!
I just saw on the news that teens taking this have gone way up. WoW 😱. Future customers forever. 😭
Using ketogenic diets or fasting or both. You can maintain muscle mass
I would like to see something on ARTERIAL DISSECTION
I'm going to say this right now being this is fact checking..... This isn't a medicine. I don't know what it is but I know it's not medicine"
Technically it’s a peptide I guess 😊
I thought it was a peptide.
It is from Denmark. My ancestors people would not invent something to harms others. I am one week on and feel great, clear headed, no cravings or food noise and down seven pounds!
Correction: Ten and a half pounds!
It's actually a hormone. Obviously a synthetic one because it's made in a lab.
There is a lot of information on the dlp 1 like ozempic and sister drugs both good and bad. I always look up the information myself.
Is Berberine the same as Ozempic? This was a good video. Thank you
It's not the same at all, but there may be overlapping effects.
Berberine is a GLP 1 antagonist but a very weak one compared to the prescription drug. I use berberine. It’s very helpful in suppressing appetite.
Everything time I tried berberine I was vimiti g and awful stomach pain, I even took the capsule apart and dumped out half. Still nausea and vomiting. Back to keto.. slow and steady loss but hitting a plateau that is going to require even fewer carbs.
Lies …Obesity is a bigger problem than this ! I have no issues at all being on Tirzepatide am feeling my best, losing the weight 🎊 🎉
Those shots sound scary
Yes, lots of misinformation about these GLP-1 / GIP drugs. I'm on Mounjaro for A1c and I have to fight against the weight loss effects. The reason is that I'm trying to do bodybuilding which requires me to eat more and to gain more mass weight. And yet I don't feel like eating very much. Ironic.
Eating more and more, while slowing your stomach really does not sound like a good plan to me, but I hope it works for you
@@defeqel6537 It's not a plan. I have to be on it for A1c.
People are (as always) told a 'curated' version of the information. I'm seeing too many folks who are using semaglutide "so I can lose weight and don't have to give up pizza". Insufficient screening, surveillance and parallel support.
Dr Mike wins.
I am using it now I originally lose 12 lbs but after that I lose no more weight it seems like I don’t gain any or just 1 or 2 lbs here and there
My wife was on Moujaro until the insurance company refused to cover it.
If she is severe insulin resistant she would need to be on keto/carnivore a while before blood sugars go down. It took me close to a year
@@cynthiabahena9721 she was low for several months then carnivore now for over a year.
I.m very very sleepy and constipated.
Too bad lol
Need to try compounded on lower dose
I recently did a video on Ozempic vs. a Proper Human Diet.
