My name is Anjan Shah. I am a orthopedic trauma surgeon and I practice here at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Orthopedic trauma injuries are usually high energy injuries, automobile accidents, fall from heights, the injuries that are usually associated with those high intensity, uh, types of trauma. Pretty complex that most of our patients in the field of orthopedic trauma surgery, the first time that we're meeting you unfortunately is often in the hospital, either in the ER or in the operating room. When we get that phone call, when I get that phone call about an orthopedic trauma injury from the hospital, it's go time, find that diagnosis, get after it. You've got to solve a problem. Seeing patients in the office is very satisfying. Most of my office patients are followups and your injury was down here and having to come back in here. Whether they're walking here or they're with their family, they actually look like a person.
Again, it's very satisfying to see that. When I'm not being a doctor, it's my family, a couple of young children, a great wife, and being in Tampa for us is absolutely fantastic. We spent some time here, so were years ago when I did my fellowship. Love the city, love the group. The biggest excitement for me in what I do is seeing the degree of an injury coming in and then looking at it when we're finished, either immediately or weeks later, months later, and see how big of a difference or impact your mean. To know that we can look back and say we've made a step towards getting them back to who they used to be. I love what I do and I couldn't see myself doing anything else.
Dr. Shah is a board certified and fellowship trained in orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Shah obtained his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, in 2002. He then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Following residency, Dr. Shah received his fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, FL.
Specializing in complex peri-articular and poly trauma injuries, Dr. Shah is a staffed trauma surgeon with Orthopaedic Trauma Service, a division of Florida Orthopaedic Institute, that he helped create. The OTS team provides expert care for patients with severe musculoskeletal injuries, including pelvic and hip reconstructions, one of Dr. Shah’s areas of expertise.
