Winny you make some crazy win in te last wave with only 15 seconds and you choose the right wave...with a perfect performance Incredible battle that is the important thing
Yeeew... amazing battle between two legends of the sport. Winny came through on top but GT put up a massive fight. Such a sick final! Congrats Dave Winchester!
I agree, the rules need to be made clear by the IBA and the commentators. I understand that there must be a lot of pressure on these guys, I wouldn't be able to fathom the way they are feeling in these moments while competing. But that doesn't excuse them. These guys are professionals and that is how they are expected to perform. I appreciate your decent comments; it's nice that someone can give their opinion without being a complete tool. I would love to hear and explanation from the IBA.
ALL other riders will catch the wave in this situation if they don't want their opponent on it, or at least make clear to the judges that they are showing interest and therefore losing their priority...
No, I will continue to be a fan and spectator and I will continue to discuss my opinions on any events that are interesting to me in bodyboarding... GT disqualified himself in my opinion. 'My opinion'. What he did was damaging to our sport and the whole idea of sportsmanship and respect.
sometimes i think it would be great if the luck factor could be eliminated... But thats how it is, all this guys bodyboard like crazy ! great comp great place ! (;
tamega should have been surfing more instead of trying to stop winny. the first wave he blocked winny on and kept priority could have been the wave that gave him a higher score. Surf next time, champ.Winny deserved that win and it would have been a lame final if he went out getting blocked.
When ANY other rider wants their opponent not to get a wave they use their own priority and take it themselves. I don't understand why anyone would purposefully sit in the way of someone else who wants to take off. NO ONE else blocked anyone in the contest, they all did the respectful thing and used their priority if they were nervous that their opponent would get a score. Same rules, yet ONLY GT did it. Given the chance to block I wouldn't and I have never done before, because it's fucked.
GT just used priority like all the riders do, i can't see any "blocking" on it. Winny didn't even paddle to the wave, he was taking a look! Also you can't tell if GT didn't want to go. Winny did right by not going on this shitty wave and findind that last wave. But wait.. Alex and Manny said the word "Blocking", so GT haters will take full advantage of it. If GT really wanted to block Winny, he would block on the wave Winny failed to complete the barrel, which was looking way better. No big deal
There is most definitely need to be hating, it's a very disrespectful 'strategy'. I am completely stumped as to why blocking is allowed and why it doesn't result in a disqualification or at least an interference. I am even more confused as to how someone could be so low as to actually do it. Competition should encourage concentration on your own riding, not sabotage of your fellow competitors. Moreso I am incredibly disappointed that any spectator would encourage or be proud of this activity...
TheReptilehumon I think you should absolutely be able to bloke but as soon as you do, especially as blatantly obvious as that. Priority should be immediately handed to the other bodyboarder. That’s the risk you take
So it's cool to win by stopping your opponent from catching waves rather than surfing better than them... I thought a bodyboarding competition was designed to try and measure who was the better bodyboarder in the allotted time frame. If GT had gotten priority at the start and then blocked for the entirety of the heat so Winny got NO waves you would presumably still respect the win. Do you not see how fucked that is? Yes I have competed before.
I respect your opinion, but i just think it isn't right to judge an athlete in a final where probably both riders were nervous. If there was a confusion caused by the situation of both riders looking for a wave, it was up to the judges to give priority to Winny. And i'm pretty sure GT didn't have any bad intentions. I think we all can agree that he just doesn't need that to win. All the riders on the tour respect that man. It isn't fair to make him look like such a dick for this.
We're talking about bodyboarding here, not soccer and I have nothing to do with the situation at hand. I have competed before and never blocked anyone no matter what the situation. It is a terribly damaging tactic to be allowed in bodyboarding. I like bodyboarding for fun, it is not a career to me but I applaud you for exposing your pathetic nature by getting personal with your assumptions. My argument has nothing to do with countries, merely the act that we witnessed during the finals at Arica.
go to 27.06 and tell me who has priority. It is pretty damn obvious that GT was sitting in front of Winny with the objective of blocking him in mind. He made no attempt to move out of the way while Winny was clearly paddling, showing interest in the wave. It is a big deal. I wasn't a GT hater until I witnessed this act. You have to make clear your intentions when a wave is coming in if you're in priority, you are not allowed to use 'confusion' to make to make your opponent miss a wave. pathetic.
how many times has Many V said the name of the contest?
me gusta mucho ese deporte auq no lo practique pero tengo amigos q si y los acompañó y excelente los videos.

8 seconds in and they're already shouting into the microphones and speaking over each other.

Be quiet and try to do half of what he did for the sport.
yyyyeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww winny!!!

Typical Brazzo horseshit. They're fucken ruthless.
Encourage cheap tactics, disrespect and sabotage of your fellow competitors... I would never try to do half of that to bodyboarding.
professional foam-laying. How lame
Bunch weird mates
lame. lame. lame. 30 mins and 3 waves. and hyped up commentary.
one of the most boring contests ever
wow screw you it was amazing
