Even the lines of the support actors are outstanding and delivered perfectly by actors well trained in their craft.Bewes and Bolam continue with a script that continues to astound when compared with today’s inferior screen output.
Whoever took the decision to cast Bolam in the role of Terry Collier must have been a perceptive genius. I just can't think of anyone else who could have performed that role the way he did. Every episode a masterpiece of comic acting genius.
good story line, good acting, totally down to earth... and all that without the need for swearwords and sexually based comical remarks... refreshing...
I agree. James Cossins was one of those dependable stalwarts of British character acting. Magistrates must have been a speciality of his. I can remember him as one in an episode of "The Good Life".
I remember my granddad watching me climb a ladder with him footing it and he said “I wish I could still do that boy” I didn’t understand what he meant. Now I do 😂
This was first shown in April 1974, so it is 50 years old, but still worth watching ... unlike ALL the sitcoms that are made nowadays. I can't think of any recent comdieis that I find funny. RIP Bob & Thelma (sorry, I mean Rodney Bewes and Brigit Forsyth)
In 2013 she wrote Darwin & Fitzroy, a play charting the working relationship between Charles Darwin and Captain Fitzroy on the famous voyage on HMS Beagle. Still alive , i believe. Little more info i can see on-line.
I went to Romania last year, flights, Airbnb, transport, food and outings, it cost about that amount. But I never took a taxi and travelled by public transport. I went in low season, a summer beach holiday would have been much more.
14:46 I can't believe nobody in the audience laughed at "And you saw seamen?" Great ending, but I'm just sorry they didn't arrange a longer and more intense fight between Bob and Terry.

It is indeed a classic series that I never tire of watching 😅
I'm not a Brit, but this is the most awesomely written and acted show I've ever had the privilege to have seen!
It’s hard to believe that it wasn’t that long ago, young lads would wear a suit, shirt & tie to go to the pub on a Friday night…

Superb series , both writing and acting.

He was far too old.
@@MarkHarrison733😂
@@keithfenwick9992 Terry was supposed to be in his 20s. Bolam looked in his 40s.
He was supposed to be 28 but he was about 36 in this episode. People looked older in those days.

Apart from the comment about the girls chest
Comedy acting and writing in the 70/80s was superb.
You know this pub is never not full, it's never not full 😂😂😂
My husband repeats it all the time 😆
Saturday night in 1974. Doctor who, the likely lads, the generation game. Takes me back though but.
And on the buses
Dr Who?

Always great to see the great James Cossins, here as the magistrate
I agree. James Cossins was one of those dependable stalwarts of British character acting. Magistrates must have been a speciality of his. I can remember him as one in an episode of "The Good Life".
Well acted Well written and something else FUNNY unlike the drivel on TV today
My absolute favourite episode of all !
the contrast and sparring, but love between Rodney and Terry. aided and abetted by Thelma. is one of the all time comedy greats
Excellent! The flow of imagery and comedy is so dynamic and the delivery from the cast is seamless.
Never sure if I'm crying with laughter or crying at dismay that my life has passed me buy so quickly....
i can relate to that
@@Filbrit2018 Yeah me too, i find myself laughing my head off until the music plays at the end and then i feel a sort of crushing dispair.

Great show 🇬🇧👍
I was young enough to watch the first series and it was just like my friends and I. Excellent writing and so true to the time.
Mr Scaife!!!! Alan Armstrong
He got sent down after this, did some porridge
Alun. From South View Gardens, Annfield Plain. He obviously didn’t use that money he got in Get Carter for those Karate lessons.
He and Collier then became coppers and met up again in New Tricks
yes james bolam replaced him as trevor chaplin in beiderbecke, Alun was in the original called Get Lost
Best episode and that's saying something .
Dick Clement &Ian La Frenais wrote there best work here. Much better than the original Likely Lads series
Simply genius writing, casting and performances👌👏👏
Beautiful acting;impeccable script.

Forty three quid for ten days all in holiday in Romania. Cracking.
That’s £560 in today’s money. It’s still a good deal.

Somehow, you just know that someone called ' Dougie Scaife 'is probably a bit of a hard nut who knows how to look after himself.

Oh for the days when you could laugh at a programme and no one would complain they were offended.

You can see some of this in Auf Wiedersehen Pet with characters like McGowan
James was quite goodlooking here.
I always had a massive crush on him
