I loved ole woodman jack all the years he D.J.d for the Radio community ! I met him once as a security guard at Six flags of Texas, he drove up in a 55 Thunderbird convertible . He said ,.. ". Here kid .. park it in the shade, and he threw me the keys ! I was spell bound ,and sat in the driver's seat . My supervisor came up and asked ,". What in the Hell I was doing sitting in Woodman Jack's Thunderbird ? This was in 1983 ,Arlington ,Tx.
XERB wasn't restricted by the FCC because it was in Mexico, so the engineer would crank the wattage up till it would electrocute birds if they flew too close to the antennae. The signal could be easily picked up as far north as Chicago.
Must've been nice to show the middle finger to the unelected monarchy called the FCC from outside of their jurisdiction. Kinda like doing whatever you want on the other side of the chain-link fence where the Doberman can't get to you.
I was eleven years old and living on Southern California top forty am radio about this time. My dad used my little transistor radio one night to get the racing results from Santa Anita. Moved the dial from 1110 to 1190 and left it there. That night, I heard the Wolfman for the first time and my life would never be the same. So, how's your boogaloo?
Pat Benny, i am from Athens Greece. Almost 40 years ago (I'm 56 years old) i heard from my small transistor radio too, the "Wolfman Jack show",from the USAF Base in Helliniko (Hasani) airport in Athens. This radio show , "transferred"me to the land of my dreams ' USA! Thanks God a few days ago i came across this channel to remind me of my childhood!
In 1964 , I was 13, I listened to THE WOLFMAN on my little transistor radio, about 9:00 PM in a tree in Placerville CA, probably 700 miles away from TJ ! Rock on WOLFMAN
I, a native of Del Rio, Tx. and a High school Student (graduated 1965) at that time, used to listen to him when he was broadcasting from the sixth floor studio (Old Roswell Hotel downtown) from XERF Radio Station in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. Unforgettable Wolfman Jack.

"Woodman?" How can you get his name wrong if you loved him so much?

Are you it was 1190? Wolfman was on 1090. If you tuned to 1190 in Southern California, you'd have been listening to Anaheim's KEZY
Yeah, 1090

I remember hearing Wolfman Jack back in the 1970s and 1980s.
I Remember The Wolf Broadcasting From XTRA GOLD 690 AM In Tijuana Mexico Back in 1987.
Wolfman Jack Will Never Die!!!
There’s 2 separate clips here. First one is from 1966 NOT 1964. Wolfman started at XERF in 1964 and two years later he began broadcasting on XERB too.
