There's this one good/informative guide by goldjongin, 'Introduction to Exo 2020' on yt (the most updated one) . It's only about 11min long. Yes, it's 2020 ver. but nvmind that bc the only difference in 2021 is that the members discharge/enter the military & Kai debuted as a soloist.

I just want to say EXO started this whole "concept" thing in Kpop. Back when they debuted with their superpower concept with their own lore and story and universe, everyone was laughing and mocking them. But now it's the norm for every new kpop group to have a backstory and lore.

T-ara had story lines in their videos, others told their stories in 1 video. I don't remember exo getting mainstream mocked over their storyline, there was a backlash against them because sm ignored all the other groups in favour of over promoting exo prior to their debut. Mainly people were just sick to death of all the teasers and couldn't be bothered checking out exo when they debuted, they felt as if they had been harassed to death with all the commercials, and the addition of prequels were often found to be stupid and ridiculous. The overall exo planet aliens with super powers, were overall just viewed as confusing. A lot of people liked it, whilst others just ignored it and were furious with sm at the time.

So, since you were wondering: Love Shot is about them figuring out there's an imposter in their group planted but the Red Force (the organization that's after them and their power). That part where Xiumin takes off his mask and him and Baekhyun pull their guns on each other is about how they don't exactly know who can be the imposter, so they're against each other, probably just as the Red Force planned. EXO has a rich and interesting lore and even after years in the fandom I still don't know exactly the timeline and all the hidden meanings in their MVs. Yes baby, kings of vocals AND concept.
we should not forget "the end=the beginning" in their concept so you don't know the timeline
I'm mainly a BTS and BLACKPINK fan but i cant deny EXO really is a good group. They are so good, even individually the members really are so amazing. They are one of the few groups i wont mind listening to 🔥

@Caitlin Benson don't be pressured about it. EXO's fandom are mostly grown ups now so literally no pressure, whatsoever when reacting, its like here we present to you EXO, you love them were glad coz same, then if you dont were still thankful that you checked them out.

Im so glad you are giving exo a try! They’re amazing vocalists and their concept is so good! Im gonna try and give you a bit of basic info on them:
They were originally a 12 member group when they debuted in 2012, and were split into two sub units exok and exom. I believe the original idea from sm was to have the group promoting simultaneously in korea and china, and they release their albums in both korean and mandarin. Thats why in mama there were a couple of scenes with all 12 members but mainly it was the 6 exok members and they released a Chinese version that was the same but with exom. I think after their first few releases they started just doing everything as a 12 member group.
3 of the chinese members have left the group due to various issues with the company and such, so there are 9 members currently. There are usually different members in their music especially in the past couple of years due to military enlistment and the remaining Chinese member lay having work and promotion in china. He is still in the music and does appear in some mv’s like their most recent one through a green screen.
The member you liked a lot was baekhyun. He is one of their main vocals and is an incredible singer. He has sadly just started his military service but he has a lot of solo music and music form the exo subunit cbx with chen and xiumin. Pretty much every member has either released a solo album or is in a subunit of the group so they could still release music while other members are in the military.
Exo have amazing vocals and their harmonies are on point! Sm is a company that is really known for their vocal talent, and it shows with exo.

Im not an exo-l, but when we say vocals in kpop industry, exo does it all, they are top tier. Even if I'm not a total fan, but I do like D.O so much.

Actually this group has,
3 Main Vocalists :- Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. (each of the three have different styles) one is known for his high vocal ranges, one for his falsettos and high and low notes and one is R&B king, known for his agile runs....
3 Main dancers :- Lay, Kai and Sehun.... No words for them, they also have different styles..!!!
2 Main rappers :- Chanyeol and Sehun.... Many say, their rap line is not good, I admit their raps are slow 'cuz of the songs but that doesn't mean they are bad, they are very good.
Chanyeol has the most unique rap flow... he raps as he sings. while Sehun has a very beautiful voice and a great rapper but doesn't get enough lines....
Actually both rappers are in the Visual line along with rest of the members... EXO is a visual group...
Also every member can sing and rap both....
Leader :- Suho who is the lead vocalist... He can easily be the main vocalist in other group but in EXO, its different... a beautiful MOM of the group.. a very selfless leader..!!!
Xiumin :- the hidden member, Ace of the group, can easily be put into any position. He is the lead vocalist, lead dancer, lead rapper and a visual... He doesn't like to be the focus of attention....

They are not failry promoted by their company, I mean they have such a big fandom in west but they don't have a single promption in west.... I guess they even got the invitation from Coachella but again that shit company refused it..!!
They are only promoted in China and Korea a lil bit, but still are the mkst popular there... Have a huge fanbase in China..
They are "The Nation's Pick", "The Vocal Kings", first group to land in Burj Khalifa, first K-pop group to perform in Olympics 2018, are the face of South Korean tourism... and much more.. I can't list all..
Also members are very humble and have a great personality.. They have a great bond but usually don't showoff in front of camera 'cuz they are very shy I mean very shy... 7 of the 9 members are introvert....!!!

yours is the first reaction of EXO which has done justice to their story line, appreciating their incredible vocals and stunning visuals for what they are without critiquing them using the "kpop" barometer. Even in kpop they are unique, they go the extra mile and are always trail blazers. They don't follow trends no matter how popular they are. That is why their comebacks are avidly waited for. All of them can sing, dance and when you combine all their unique individual sound...it is beautiful.
True....like all the reaction videos I've watch in Love Shot didn't react to that sliding down on the floor (which the part I like the most) she's the only one who was able to notice that. And also in the obsession music video where Sehun release the arrow and got hit by it, she also noticed it....

I don't even stan EXO but let me tell you, I picked up their Obsession album last year when I saw it at Barns n Noble. I loved the title track so much but I didn't know what to expect for the album.
The album was a godtdamn masterpiece and auditory heaven.
Watching EXO through your eyes was such a joyful experience! This fun is truly what's at the heart of kpop in the end, it might get out of sight in the midst of all the fandom drama but I love reactors who remind me so, and EXO is kpop excellence!

Okay so definitely take a quick look/listen on your own to the original because there is a huge storyline intro that was cut out of the one you watched that explains their origins.
The reason you felt the half/other half thing when watching was because you watched the EXO-K version which is half of the members. Towards the end you see a quick cameo of the EXO-M members (when you pause on Kai in black and Luhan in white). You should also check out the EXO-M version to see the other members powers. Oh and “mama” means “your majesty”.

Haha so for Love Shot the guy you immediately paused on in the beginning is Baekhyun again haha 😋. Of course you recognized Kai and yea, he’s always a problem lol. The “guy without a shirt on” is Chanyeol, main rapper (my ULT bias and the cardboard cutout behind me in my reactions haha 😝). Their lyrics do actually talk about love/relationships a lot. Although sometimes it will be a song for EXO-Ls a lot of the time it is about love.

You were once again getting attacked by Baekhyun (white hair, this is my favorite hair color on him). The red hair (devil that you called him lol) was our amazing leader Suho (currently serving). The guy with the pink hair who rose up from the ground in the beginning and had the fire rap (and did the fire fighting) is my ULT Chanyeol again. Of course you know Kai lol 😜. Sehun was the other one rapping with the bow and arrow. And the guy with the amazing high note in the bridge is Chen (currently serving).
You jumped into a video containing the craziest part of the storyline so far. This is EXO vs X-EXO aka good vs evil. But yes, they are each fighting themselves (kinda) in the video. I don’t really wanna give anything more away other than that for now.

In DFTF, the beginning and a few bits throughout are all storyline so no worries if you’re confused at times, that is normal.
The two members missing from this video are our leader Suho and one of our main vocalists Chen (both currently serving).
The guy who opens the song is D.O one of the main vocalists. He wasn’t not in Obsession because he was in the military and this is the first time we have him back with the group. 🥰

The tall guy who has grey hair and is playful and does the whoa with Baek is Chanyeol. As you can see, although he is the main rapper he has amazing vocals here (I love him so much)! 🥺
Both Baekhyun and Chanyeol just went into the military within the last couple of months and we miss them so much already!! 😢
Sehun (our maknae) was the one killing the rap verse! 😍
Xiumin (our oldest) was the one acting passed out and being playful with Kai. He was also not in Obsession because he was in the military and this is the first time he has been back with the group. 🥰
Once again, you know exactly who Kai is lol and yes, his smile is so fun and precious. 😍
Lastly, is Lay 🥺😍… He was the one who came in after Sehun rap verse and also the one wearing the maroon shirt in the party group shot at the end. Lay is the last remaining Chinese member in EXO. He is currently in China. He is a HUGE solo artist there and is a Youth Ambassador for his country. Because of the political conflicts between S Korea and China and his status in his country, he has been unable to participate with his group for years 😢. The last time he was able to sing on a Korean track was in 2017. We have missed him so much and always have to deal with antis or toxic EXO-Ls trying to saying he’s not a member of EXO anymore… but as you can see he very much still is and was just waiting for the right time for it to be okay to participate with his group once again. Of course due to COVID he couldn’t be physically there but he fully participated not only on the title track and MV but also on every B-side on this album!!
The was such an emotional and long awaited moment for EXO-Ls and we are so happy and thankful to have him back! 🥺😍😭
In conclusion, it is still super early but I feel you are leaning towards Baekhyun bias and Kai wrecker… but who knows how it will end up in the end. 😋

Korean audience are quick to move on when a new group is introduced or the group they stan gets older... but majority of BTS' fandom is international and from my experience armys are known for their loyalty and connection with the boys so I think even when they enlist... yeah Baekhyun, is one of their main vocalist out of 3, Exo is know for their amazing live vocals, people often call them the vocal king of kpop.
I have never once regretted becoming an EXO-L. they have raised my expectations immensely, no one ever comes close to them. Baekhyun is the ultimate bias, he creeps up on you and then snatches you up. it's already happening to you 😉

When they are together, they honestly don't care that the cameras are on them. They will call each other out and expose each other as easy as you please. They will talk about the most inappropriate things on national TV, and then instantly regret it. They will scold their fans when they misbehave, but they are also the sweetest with EXO-L's. Baekhyun (that's one of EXO's main vocals, and the one you kept recognizing but didn't know the name) gave us the nickname "Eris" (because it sounds like the cutesy way of saying "L" in Korean), so we go by EXO-L's, Eris, or L's. EXO is always coming with a new concept, so their MV's can give you whiplash. And EXO actually has 3 main vocals. Baekhyun (who you are familiar with), D.O. (the one with the buttery R&B vocals in Love Shot, and Don't Fight The Feeling), and Chen (he was the one with curly black hair and green eyes in Obsession that was going off with those high notes and adlibs. Also, the cutie rapper you noticed in Obsession and DFTF is my one true love and the maknae of the group, Sehun. He is a main rapper (there are 2) and a main dancer (there are 3). Dang, that was way more than I intended to write.
