I recently bought the action3 and honestly, this review is one of the best reviews I’ve seen. I feel much better now as am going to use this camera for travel with the family.
I must admit I've got to appreciate it over time, for two main reasons: 1- Ease of use and peace of mind. When in "action", that's what you would want from and action camera. No fuss with overheat ( it happened to me once, but the scenario was pushy tbh) 2 - Since I do color grade a little bit my footages, I've been pleased with the fact that I can sharpen it in post as per my taste if I want. I rarely publish straight out of camera to social media, especially for business use cases And little free tip, you can start recording from off just pressing the record button and it's pretty fast. The side power button is just to turn off or switch mode in the end.
i just got the A3 and compared it to my A2. i say its 30% better video quality. the 10bit mode is a marketing joke. same terrible as on action 2. absolute useless. i tried to colorgrade it in davinci while watching scopes. you cant get any more details from over/underexposed clips back. so forget 10 bit. HDR is ok for normal users. low light is 20% better than A2 but as you said not much. this cam is made for ultra wide 4k60 footage with rocklsteady in normal color mode ISO locked to 100-200 and shutter auto plus WB manual. thats where the cam shines and i like it very much in this mode. i see you film inside the church in 4k50. of course it is noisy. outside 4k50 and inside you supposed to use 4k25 with low iso. picture enhancment is also doing nothing except force me to keep fps low. again. the A3 shines at 4k60 and thats what we need to use. no HDR or other magic modes needed.
After the updates it seem to be way better. Im a Dji fan but have not bought this camera yet, I have all the other cameras from Dji, action 2, pocket 2 and the good old osmo action. So Dji if you watch this I would love to test the Dji Osmo action 3. Great review👍
Since the wide angle is an issue, if you shoot in 4k how viable is it to crop into your 4k footage to get a better FOV? Have you tried this? I do this on my DJI drones so would be interesting to know how their action cams perform with some cropping.
Hi Chris. I have had two Action 3s. Significant focus issue on both. Both manufactured November 2022. My understanding is that there was (still is?) a manufacturing issue with the hardware, causing the focus issue / "soft images". IF the lens is set at the incorrect distance from the sensor, on any fixed lens camera, then surely no amount of firmware is going to correct this? I have seen suggestions that the firmware updates "sharpen" the image, but this 'cheat' has other ramifications. That said, and watching compressed footage on RUclips, in your piece specifically on close focus, the image looked good, but much of the rest of the video looked "soft" at best, if not out of focus. Have you completed testing with the camera 35cm from text, using different settings? I would love to see / hear about your findings. Thanks.
There is no guarantee that what they show is shot from dji action 3. Lots of positive videos all of a sudden is flooding in youtube means they are being paid. I am just waiting for new batch but in my country even November batch is having an issue so not sure is this an issue which even dji cannot fix.. Whether the lens itself is like that
Love the review and quilts of the video, thank you for sharing, as far as the comment about the wide angle and neglect of choices for focal differences, this camera is equip with a zoom feature, that I love great camera for price quality and features and it doesn’t crash software works seamless.
What was the production date of you camera as I've watched a fair few reviews on this camera regarding the focus issue .. apparently the 1st batch with the manufacturer date of the 22/9/22 are a problem
The Action 3 is a brilliant camera and better with all the new updates they had it going for this camera. The in-camera stabilization is I think better than GoPro's. Plus the interface and the battery life is amazing you'd sometimes wonder why this cam is priced much lower than the GoPro
timelspse folder is on the sd card. connect the cam to a cmputer or android phone.transfer via mimo app not possible.mimo app send only the video file you can select. mpeg,mpeg+jpeg and mpeg +raw jpeg and raw are in a seperate timelapse folder

Mine has just done something its never done before, when shooting in 4k 60fps the front screen goes off and says only 1 screen can be used in high definition always used to be both screens on, change the fps to anything less then 60 and its fine, just waiting for dji to send email with details after long online chat, anyone else now getting this? Mine has only started doing it since i did latest update yesterday and that was may firmware
Hey can you please tell me which memory card you are using for Osmo action 3? I am using SanDisk extreme 128gb UHS-1 micro sd card. But everytime I start the camera, it says "memory card speed slow. Shooting may stop." And the shooting stops after 20seconds or so. I am not sure what should solve this issue. Can you please advise?
24mins mine max's out due to overheating and thats in 1080p DJI don't seem interested in adressing this so far. I still use my action 1 for my motorcycle helmet as it can run all day while plugged into a usb power source
There is only one issue . . . the timelapse and slow motion output is NTSC (30fps) regardless of settings and there is no way to have the output PAL 25fps for timelapse or slo mo. Otherwise can't fault it.

I purchased mine a few days ago and whenever i take the sd card out and insert into my laptop the footage shows as grey, audio dont match sometimes video dont play and ive tried multiple new sd cards to see if they were the issue but i think its the camera, does anyone know why this is or is the camera itself faulty? Ive tried recording in 1080, 4k it records fine in the moment just the playback don’t actually play. Any suggestions?

@@iamrjabella I've just had a check for you and I think you can do what you're asking. If you go to 'timelapse' mode, swipe from the right and make sure your 'pro' setting is on. Then in the bottom left there's a button for 'Format' which by default is set to 'video' - if you hit this you can do 'video+jpg' or 'video + raw' which looks like it would save your raw photos. Let me know if that works!
Whats the production date of your model? Just sent mine to repair, was clearly out of focus. I've been seing lots of videos about the focus issue being fixed on 11/2022 units, but then they show examples, just like you did, and it stil doesnt seem super sharp. Like here, your face is definitely blurry 14:02. You could argue that the face is too close to the camera, but your hand is also blurry. So idk. GoPro's have their famous problems, but are still unbeatable in image quality, that's my conclusion.
Thats what DJI does with all its products, they come out, they get enhanced over time.. thats what makes DJI the goto brand imo. Sold my gopro, bought a insta360 x3 to go with the dji action cameras. I think its great stuff.
I have an insta360 x3 too. Would you suggest buying DJI osmo action3 or do you think I won't need it if i have the x3 already? Do you think they have to go both if I am to vlog?
@@yayingsalvador7236 depends, i have them mounted on my atv.. the insta360 footage isnt as sharp and is fiddly when you need to process a lot of video.. And if theres danger for the lenses i would add the osmo as it has replaceable lenses.

I'm torn with just using action cam or Sony zv1f, or just a phone like s23ultra coz a lot of vlogs says phone now is more capable of doing the job. I know it's all in different categories but I can't buy all of those because of the amount of money that I have to spend for all of that.
I still see one big problem for me ... highlights everywhere :( this is where gopro still better, dynamic range. For me is more important than distortion.
I am going to use it for moto vlogging and filming my family wenn on vacation. I don’t know to go for dji or the insta rs. I will not buy a GoPro.. again not sure what to go for
I think if you have any interest in 360 video or 1 inch sensor then go insta Rs 2, if not then the Action 3 is the way. You don’t want to be fiddling with modular system if you’re not interested in the modules. Hope that helps!
For me I was debating this one and the GoPro Hero 11. Ironically, just after I ordered my GoPro, I started seeing a lot more fairly good DJI videos from RUclips reviewers such as yourself. Previously anything I watched definitely made the DJI seem cheap and limited. I guess in the end, both are reasonable cameras at this point. Admittedly I prefer the GoPro colours and contrast with straight OOTB video-and that can be very subjective to compare. As far as price, with the GoPro discounts, they are both priced very similarly.
I have this action 3 and I love it. I have no regrets. If anyone interested in checking its performance in not so heavy activities I have a latest upload.
Huge downside to this cam and to dji products as a whole is that the companion app is no longer available in the app store. This may be due to China and spyware.
This "review" is basically the same as all the others out there that got a unit from dji. "honest personal" opinion, yet they all just repeat the same stuff over and over again, none of them being too harsh and glossing over the glaring issues but making sure they highlight all the good stuff, that's not what an balanced review should look like in my opinion. Smh
I actually hate those kind of reviews and I pride myself on being honest in my opinions. I have other reviews being quite negative about products (and they’ll never send me a product again). However with this camera I honestly didn’t find anything I hated or ‘glaring issues’, but again that is opinion.

It's obvious since you point out exactly the same as any other Reviewer and you did the same, highlighted what was told and sugar coated other thing. You said the wobbly magnetic release system isn't a problem. Well, it's an action cam, try putting it once on a bike or car, something that shakes and vibrates and you will quickly find out the footage is unusable and the rattling is transferring to the mic. And that's just one example of something that a proper review should contain. So either you're just like the reviewers you pretend to hate or you didn't do a good job testing it rigth, it's your choice. You also mentioned other companies not sending anything anymore when being to harsh. From over 9 years of youtube reviewing I can tell you that dozen of companies out me on their blacklist but I full knowingly risk that every time and go into every test with the thought it could be the last time I get something, it's the only way you can stay neutral. Of course if you wanna get popular or even make a living of it, that only works for a handful of people on each segment, all others can just continue "playing the game" to stay at least a bit relevant
@@TheNitpicker damage has been done so dji is trying hard. But to be honest action 3 is way better than go pro hero 11.. When wil go pro learn not to hang their device. I have a cheap camera called apeman 4k. I had no expectation and to my surprice at 1080p it ran around 50 minutes. Go pro also has serious heating issue. I am just going to wait few months and then get dji action 3
You may be right, but when several people reviews the same product it is pretty obvious why they say very similar things about specs, functionality etc. It is the same product they talk about after all.
In my opinion this is not good review of action camera. Just guy who walk, talk and make selfies. Only action moment when he tried to run…but even that wasn’t too much autentic. Basically he isn’t doing something interesting where he can use potecial of action camera. For posting selfies on social media just use your phone😉 What about test the camera during riding a bike or under water? Next time more own invention sir.

Shit camera. Way worse than gopro 11. I have it myself. Latest update, grainy footage and bad in low light
I cancelled my order. Too many negatives on the "slightly out of focus" problem. I will wait till I see that DJI has fixed the problem.

So the Problem with Focus, Light issue, were those Software or Hardwire issue.

Osmo Action 3 is really a good camera, and that it can handle the cold with no problem is great for us living in the cold north.
It can really handle anything, so versatile!

If 10 bit is off does it film in 8 bit as I use the free version of DaVinci resolve & you can't use 10 bit.
Standard Dewarp FOV is not the most zoomed in. There's also the Narrow FOV.

They’re very water sealed so as long as it’s closed properly, and I mean properly, then you’re good

I've watched about 15 RUclips reviews about the DJI Action 3....none of them shoot the entire episode with only the DJI Action 3....I wonder why?

Instead of removing mini-SD, rry plugging USB direct to computer. Worked on my Action 1, not yet tested out Action 3...

If I remember correctly, one of the Daniel Craig movies was shot in 2K or 2.7K or something like that, so resolution isn't everything.

I motovlog for my own use and to me this is the perfect addition to my original Action and my Insta 360 X2, this will be my primary helmet cam.
Seeing the improvements, seems it will give GoPro a run for its money.
Why wouldn't they make the lens replaceable. The look of the camera kinda makes you think it is. Would be nice to screw on a less wide lens..

The osmos do the heavy lifting and the insta360 is the cherry on top..with some special shots..

@@arlencarlson GoPro is the way to go lol. The sharpness in colors seems to be much better
OA3 has everything great going for it except for the video/image quality.
Problem is that if you don’t actually upload this video at 50 fps there is no point in displaying a 50 fps video example.

You may be right, but when several people reviews the same product it is pretty obvious why they say very similar things about specs, functionality etc. It is the same product they talk about after all.

In my opinion this is not good review of action camera. Just guy who walk, talk and make selfies. Only action moment when he tried to run…but even that wasn’t too much autentic. Basically he isn’t doing something interesting where he can use potecial of action camera. For posting selfies on social media just use your phone😉 What about test the camera during riding a bike or under water? Next time more own invention sir.
