    I have a doubt. How can we say that ild for portion BC will be non linear when we apply a unit roller at B. Why cannot it be a similar triangle like how it looks like for portion AB, with 0.5 ordinate on AB and 0.5 ordinate for BC. Can you say when will ILD become non linear. The given sturcture is a determinate one but still why in portion BC we expect the ild for shear to be non linear and why we neglect it?

      ILD is non linear for indeterminate structures. We are not neglecting it. The ILD on BC part is zero because when the load is on the span BC there will be no shear force at B. You can confirm the same by applying a unit load anywhere between B and D and finding the value of shear at B. ILD just shows the actual behaviour of reactions, SF etc. Not having any value between B and D just shows that there will be no shear at B when the load is between BD. Saying the part cannot be nonlinear is just a way to quickly solve it and avoid the confusion.

      And it cannot be a triangle like AB part because C is an internal support. There is a single member between B and D, and it cannot simply lift like part AB. That only happens for an end support and cannot happen for an internal support.
