    I think you should add an angel or a bigger size fish in as well. In my experience it helps keep rummynose schooling tighter in group when there’s a bigger fish around. A slow moving fish is good contrast with them

    Nature's blood pressure reducer . One of the reasons I got into the hobby when I was a kid is because it really helped my mom's blood pressure . One of the first things she would do when she got home from work was to sit in front of my aquariums and just relax for a good hour or so . She loved this hobby and eventually got into it herself doing selective breeding of guppies . We used to talk about the hobby for hours .She passed away a few years ago after a long battle against dementia . If it wasn't for her love and support , encouragement I don't know if I would have been in this hobby let alone worked in a tropical fish hatchery doing what I loved . RIP mom 😿💔

    For mail ordered fish, especially ones that spent an extra day in the bag, I would just use the "plop and drop" method rather than slowly acclimating them. This is what I have done for all my orders in the past 5 years or so with good results.

    • @adolescentmusic9784
      @adolescentmusic9784 3 года назад

      What’s the “plop and drop” method?

    • @jmunroe24
      @jmunroe24 3 года назад +2

      I agree. I cringed when I saw the slow acclimation, especially shipped fish that spent an extra day in shipping. It’s ok to do that on local bought fish, but should always plop and drop shipped fish. The ammonia becomes too toxic when air is exchanged in the bag the second it’s opened from the pH rising immediately. I’ve done plop and drop on shipped fish as well for years without any issue. One of the reasons you never see super sensitive fish like discus acclimated. Always plopped and dropped. This scape is beautiful and would be nice to spend a few hours sitting in front of.

    • @TankTested
      @TankTested  3 года назад +14

      That's what I would have done normally. Because the fish were already extremely stressed from 60 hours in the bag, I prioritized releasing them without more stress rather than best water practices. It worked out well, but it was a risky choice.

    • @RyanStonedonCanadianGaming
      @RyanStonedonCanadianGaming 3 года назад +1

      You gotta do what you gotta do.
      For the amount of water the tank has compared to what their being released from is a pretty substantial difference, I could see if it was a 10 gallon tank doing the plop and drop method but in tank tested's case I think it was better to do it that way as the risk of death is alot lower, if diseases arise, he'd do as he mentioned in the video for medicating.

    • @adrianaescobar6924

      On this situation, other reputable aquarist just toss them in the aquarium without acclimation and without the travel water, that water is already bad enough

      @@TankTested That's kind of the irony in the hobby..you can cram a big Pacu into a 100 gallon tank for 20 years and it never gets any disease even in lousy water,a poor filter. Put a neon into a God gorgeous natural aquarium where the 1" fish has 8-20' of big tank..and its dead 5 weeks later.
      I've kept the biggest species..and other than an Arowana jumping out,all my large fish were always healthy. Red Devils,Central Americans ,Oscars, dozens more-Koi outdoors..healthy..all of them.

    I wouldnt tell people that you can just cycle the tank and then release a bunch of fish. Yes if it's cycled you will have less issues with ammonia but you can risk an ammonia spike crashing your system as your bacteria are used to lower levels and will take time to grow their colonies to deal with this higher load

  • @Katerkleo7
    @Katerkleo7 3 года назад +1

    with all respect- but if you add about 50 nerites to a freshly set up tank with 12 sensitive ottos and 40 hungry amanos there isn’t even a close chance for all species to survive this as they naturally rely on the same food sources like algae and bacterias wich would take a long time to develop in a sufficient amount. and the named species can be very reluctantly accepting ordinary fish food, so best luck and be so kind to offer them some algae wafers...
    i would wish a channel like this would take more their educational effect into perspective as it usually has a lot to offer.
