Many people complain about the cost of these missions, saying it's a waste of money (not here, though- thankfully!). I submit that gaining knowledge of our world and the universe in which we live is NEVER a waste of money! What never ceases to amaze me is the fact that almost every mission has far exceeded estimates. Three month mission that has lasted 15 years? Incredible! Thank you, Alex, for another great entry, and I write this BEFORE watching!

It also inspires young people to get into the sciences which is a great thing for the economy, not to mention the countries' standing in the world. Niel Tyson has spoken about this at length.
If I remember correctly one of his talks to members of congress was primarily focused on the role of government-funded versus private exploration and innovation, and the benefits of supporting the sciences (with a focus on space). Of course the talk was in part an attempt to sell lawmakers on the idea of funding NASA and the sciences, but that doesn't inherently diminish his points.

Pretty silly to blindly follow - you don't write a great review before you consume anything. That would be a preview, lol. I agree with the sentiment though. It was an interesting, high quality, and well researched video.

Hi Dane- having followed Alex's channel for a while now, I know every one he does will be accurate and great quality. He is the ONLY one I would do that for! So, in effect, it could be said that...
I can write a great review
      Even though it be preview
      His topics show research
      His name we won't besmirch
      I'll go away now.....

Hi Adallace- agreed! the great thing about Alex's videos is that they can be entertaining and informative for us, but at the same time, easy to understand for kids!

To be honest. You could argue that we as a human race have so many problems on this very planet, ie war, greed, corruption, poverty. Do we really want to spread that to other planets? Also we could allocate those resources to further help people who are in poverty. Helping the unfortunate, always comes before things like space exploration. Not saying we shouldn't do space exploration, but you could make that argument stated. Cheers.

@@pyrimad8 Actually it didn't say that at all. Well not in those words at least. Oppy actually said something much technical, and a science reporter who had spoken to 2 scientists working on the mission 'translated' that the rover "basically said 'my battery is low and it is getting dark". It was not what Oppy literally transmitted back to Earth.

Thank you Alex! This tenacious little rover has somehow managed to worm its way into the psyche of the astronomy community and endear itself to the majority of people on Earth. It ceased to be solely an American project after it blew past its projected mission duration and never looked back. I’m really looking forward to the next installment of the Opportunity Rover, so is my daughter. She has definitely gotten my love for astronomy and everything space based, and has little drawings of the planets, their moons and rings, as well as the dwarf planets and asteroid belt objects. She has already turned her attention to the Oort Cloud and is concentrated like a targeting laser on the New Horizon mission, waiting for any new information to put into a picture. She also watches every single episode of Astrum with her dad, because you make it interesting. Good work!
