Getting the car in F2 was incredible. It wasn't required and when I was a kid I wasn't able to do it on my first playthrough. (Backtracking to Klamath and messing with the car there is what most people miss.) Probably the most epic side quest of all time. According to the Fallout Bible, starting up the car for the first time was supposed to be accompanied by a video but it was removed because it was "too shitty". I remember how excited I got just HEARING the Highwayman start up like this, if it would have had an epic video as well I think I would've gone crazy lol.
@@avzed1789 it's not on the internet as far as I can tell. But if the devs have been good about saving stuff then it might be on a hard drive somewhere. I think I will mail Avellone and ask.
@Algotnis Sadly no response. Either I have the wrong email or Chris doesn't want to answer inane questions about games he worked on decades ago. Besides, if fragments of the video exists, it's probably in some unfinished format that's near unwatchable/very rough.
can you imagine being a normal wastelander then you just see a car ZOOMIN a mile or so away with a deathclaw up on top? i would assume that was a message from god to change currier paths that day lmao.

Would recommend FNV The Frontier, but no, I can't recommend it at all. It's bad. Really bad. The only good piece from the mod is that it actually has drivable vehicles.
Getting the car in 2 is such a great moment the first time. You spend hours with it in the back of your mind, slowly moving from place to place until you finally get the parts you need, then go back and have it fixed up. Then the second you get in it you hear this awesome song, and watch in awe as distances that previously took your character days of in game time now took hours, as the little trail across the map screen zips by at like 4 times the normal speed. Suddenly traveling the wasteland went from being an arduous and dangerous journey, to a badass drive from place to place solving New California’s problems in record time. The excitement is doubled if you played Fallout 1 as well, since there was no car to speed up travel and the state of the world was much more unstable. Since that game is around 16-20 hours the first time through, I imagine you’d have had a lot of play time once you could get the car in 2, so it only added to how liberating it was. Basically what I’m saying is, for something as simple as a green line moving across a screen faster, it’s really cool.
