Gotta love the big hub, instant torque surge. Puts a smile on your face every time. More flux/field weakening will up your top speed at cost of range. Adjust your battery amps until it starts to trip your BMS and back it off a bit. Increase phase amps for more off the line and initial acceleration.

If you're not going to reuse that hub motor on a rear wheel again you can shave down the outer diameter quite a bit to remove weight and the overall diameter. Your lathe should be able to fit it, I know my dad's manual Kent lathe to machine down the diameter of my 8Kw hub motor which was able to remove 3/4 inch all the qa around with sill having enough protection of the magnets. I was able to lower my mini side-by-side frame for a lower CG and have more clearance. It looks cool too when it's all silver. You gotta love that instant torque using the hub motor as a chain drive mid-mount motor. Your YZ 85 came out sweet.

Great build, really want to see how this handles in the dirt!
If you're looking for more power and top speed, go higher voltage. So a new battery and a controller will do that. The motor won't run in to trouble from a higher voltage, it will actually run cooler for the same power output (as will the phase wires). For example the 100V 250A Trampaboards VESC one is about a quarter of the volume of your current ESC and will easily double the theoretical max power and increase top speed with a higher voltage (and/or with some field weakening). Pair this with a Cycle Analyst display. I've used it in my own projects and its well worth the extra spend compared to cheaper VESC controllers. I run it at 90v +6kW peak and it is barely warm to the touch after an hour. Setup/tuning will be a bit more involved tho, but likely has a lot more knobs to turn than what you're on now. Consider it if this one happens to give up the magic smoke...
Heat buildup is a big problem for these large hubs, but injecting it with some ferrofluid and adding some cooling fins will help a lot there. Make sure to check the motor casing after some running time, ideally water/spit shouldn't sizzle away or burn a unprotected hand.. You could also look into regenerative brakes to improve on the brake performance and reduce wear.
Finally, I would be *VERY* careful with that battery as it is, I seem to recall you run it with limited or no BMS (also not sure about the cells in that thing)? This is a serious fire hazard both when charging and discharging.

Yeah you have a bit of weight on that back brake with the hub motor being heavy.
Better than the last design though with the mtb frame looks like fun.

Hy, Waaoouuuh, what amazing job you did. Very good thinking. I dont think that she goes so slowly. The speed seems OK. For the breaks, may be they need to use a little. I am waitting for the off road impatiently. Kris

Yz 85 can absolutely do that I raced 85cc and 125cc for years and a 85cc can rip a grown man off it if there not careful

The spinning mass of that big hub motor is like a flywheel and makes braking harder. If you can turn on regenerative braking, it should be easier to lock up the brakes.

This is probably your best build yet.
Rear suspension looks a bit over damped, front looks a bit under sprung

Have a play around with rear sprocket sizes. Just a few teeth at a time. You will be surprised at the results. Great build mate👍. Imagine it with a small front hub motor built-in also 🤔❤

@firstname9811 just curious as to what kind of divvy you are. I've only been riding knocking on 10 years. Wondered why someone else who proclaims to ride would be such a dick. Turns out it's because you're anti-ev. Can you not accept people like different things without having a tantrum?

Cutting that frame for the controller scares me. Need that triangulation there. Also the brakes need the right (and good quality) master cylinder. Piston size and quality is everything on that. Fun watch, thanks.

I'd love to build one of these, maybe even a 65 model size would be super fun around my house.
