A great game overall but a rather poor port from the arcade and other platforms this game was released for.
The voice samples had been removed, graphics seem slightly more bland.
This was done with two players.

I used to play it alot with my step dad, in the time when everyone already had PS1, I had only my Sega mega drive 2 and I'm happy that I was able to experience such a great game instead.

so ive been thinking of gettin a megadrive emulator, gonna look into which is the best. i know the snes roms are in .smc. what do the sega roms come in? seems like they could make an emulator that plays both..but im sure itd be harder than it sounds,

Soundtrack is really excellent. Especially Stage 1-2 03:39 and Stage 3-2 12:47.

I played both and I agree. Snes version is much better, longer gameplay, more enemies, better sound effects, etc. It was much similar to the arcade version. The Genesis version was like a reduced simplified verison.

Not at all, Konami screwed the pooch with this version by only going with a 4 Meg cart instead of an 8 meg cart.

back then I used to fight with my cousin about who got the blue cowboy and who the fat mexican. actually it wasnt much of a fight, most of the time I just took him.. I was so egoistic as a kid :(
Mexican got thick big bullets like in blocks but blue has one straight bullet and one diagonal so both had pros and cons

Here's the issue with this game, and it falls on Konami squarely, instead of going with an 8 meg cart, Konami cheaped out and went with a 4 meg cart. There was a fan remake of this game being worked on to bring it closer to the arcade, but I have not heard progress on it in about a year or so. From what I could see, they went with a bigger ROM size, and was able to fit more into it. The question is, did it become vaporware, or is it still being worked on?
Long and short of this, Konami were lazy and cheap on this game.
Can't watch this game without those sound effects and sound samples of the SNES soundtrack. Good to see that the core of the game remains the same, and still is a fun one.

This versión sacrifices a lot of sound effects. It's a decent version of the arcade game.
Thx for this, was too lazy to finish it myself to see if it's crappier than the SNES version. It is, still a good MegaDrive game though.

Contra in the Wild West before Little House on the Prairie.
The best port for this game was the actual arcade version. It was just a better overall quality. That being said, Sunset riders on any port was awesome.
The arcade would be the original, and not a port.

I have to admit, I prefer most of the music in this version as compared to the arcade & SNES. I always felt the "orchestra hit" sound was way overdone and it felt out of place in a western-themed game.
