I own statues made by all of the major players in the business, and i strongly disagree with this statement. While far from perfect, Sideshow still gives you the best bang for your buck. Sideshow understands the collecting hobby better than most companies out there. They keep their prices relatively fair and their statues are space friendly between boxes and base dimensions. Sure, there's companies that have some amazing statues at nearly twice the price, but i can also make the case that sideshow has made those same statues better for nearly half their price. Ultimately, there is no definitive best statue company out there because they all offer something different and have all made great statues and some bad ones.
i'd say they aren't doing themselves any favors with their HUGE edition sizes and waiting to announce them. If you preorder a sideshow statue, they could announce a 2500 ES and it'll take 4 years to sell out and be discounted. Definitely makes me hesitant to blindly preorder from Sideshow. Some people don't care though, more power to them.
I used to think Sideshow was bottom shelf until I bought their xmen line. I have to say the quality is there and the cost is fair. Their Gambit maquette is amazing and Cyclops under rated.
Sideshow is the OG. Prime 1 and all the others would not be here if it weren't for Sideshow. They laid the ground work for the hobby and were the top dogs for like 15 years, so no they are not garbage. Sideshows failure has been in the ability for them to evolve and to innovate. Large edition sizes and constantly recycling the same old characters is their biggest problem IMO.
Just finished yard work this weekend and had to come in here and comment. Absolutely they are, tossed a few in my garbage cans out back while cleaning out the garage. LOL. Hey man, Sideshow offers a great product at times. Not all are hits but when they hit, they can go toe to toe with the BIG boys/companies. Love all my Sideshow statues I own. Something doesn't have to be 40 inch tall to be considered "premium" or great. Lots of collectors getting lost in the hype sauce and the big pieces. My opinion is that they are not, however, they are no longer at the top of the the high end collectible market so for what you get from them often feels over priced and not as high premium. With other real high end studios/companies coming in albeit at a higher price but with the same licenses SSC in comparison comes in , very often, as the Neca or McFarland of collectibles. So still great but definitely not high end for their commanding price. They started high end even lead the industry for a long time but now they seem to be getting closer to in store “limited edition” mass produced collectibles. And as it stands with how they are doing business now they are becoming better distributors for other companies than an art studio that makes high end stuff themselves. But hey if they is what will keep them from going out of business, that’s cool. Need an example? Their Christopher Reeve Superman, I have him. Looks great and then you look at the head sculpt, and while I do like it although not a super great likeness to the actor, it’s got this weird seam around the jaw line like it was pieced together by children not artists. Not sure why it even has this considering it is a statue and not a figure. When you see this and you pay over 600.00 for that you kind can’t help to say “ I’ll save my money next time and get a Reeve Sups statue from a real high end studio” like….well you know. Ouch! Of course, one from those studios will cost you double that of the 600.00 price of SSC’s piece but you will be getting something a lot more special and it will look like Christopher Reeve. I will still buy from SSC because they do have cool stuff but they are just no longer high end and shouldn’t command high end prices for (almost) off the store shelf collectibles.

Like Sega was a big player in the Console days and then later did software only because they couldn’t compete, SSC is going the same route or maybe they should all together get out. They can’t compete with these other companies bringing super high end collectible for collectors, however, they can just be their distributors and still profit. And maybe they shouldn’t. Collectors still need a small to medium tiered collectibles company (we all can’t afford a 2k+ piece from Queen Studios or XM, right?) I mean, Neca and others do a great job at this for budget friendly collectors. So no I don’t believe SSC is garbage but they are not high end anymore and should be priced accordingly and market themselves as a low to mid tier budget friendly collectible company and/or studio with great distributing power for other high end partnered companies. That Reeve Sups should have been in the 450.00 range based on likeness/paint, costume design, and weird seam around the face, in my opinion.
My man! Sideshow’s NUMBER 1 problem to me is that they make 10,000 of everything, then they sell them at 30% off for the next 5 years. Lower the edition sizes for the love of god… Then they can work on getting a little better. They make some really good pieces but they need to get their shit together in a lot of areas!
It's not garbage I got a lot of pieces myself but I will not buy them anymore. They wake false expectations with their promotion videos like showing paintjobs etc. the final product is most of the time a let down compared to the shown material. Last time it was with the man with no name premium format...what a bummer. Face looks as flat like a 15 year old statue. When you write something critical (polite) under their youtube videos, they always ignore it. It does not feel like customers are important...only their €$ and yeah 600-800 is still a price were you can expect something!

Spent too much money on a week brother. Need to find at of my school loans first lol
Garbage? No, I think because Sideshow is the largest producer and releases so many products over a year that the number of flops seems high. Each statue company has an occasional mediocre statue but they don't output the numbers Sideshow does. For every Poison Ivy Deadly Nature that goes to an awesome factory we get the Darkseid Maquette that goes to a cheap factory. Now in terms of having a "collectible" this is where they suffered in prior years, having ES of 11k Darth Vaders, 8k Silver Surfer makes their value drop. Past few releases have been low ES we'll see how these do in the next few years, but definitely some pieces get better attention than others at the factory.
I have owned a lot of Sideshow PFs, sold them all, but recently po-ed the Berserker Wolverine (it‘s just too awesome to pass on). Even though QS, P1, JND or Infinity Studio are better with most of the stuff, Sideshow is the best at price-value-ratio. They are the only company at the higher end collectibles that have not gone astronomical with prices. That should be appreciated! 🥳 By the way: Love your show. Keep it up! 🤙
I have around 20 statues now,mainly by Sideshow but do have a couple of Prime 1 and PCS 1/3rd pieces too. I have everything from Lobo to Bane to Posion Ivy, Conan,Sabretooth, Venom and Wolverine. No specific theme,just if they look cool and it resonates with me then I'll buy it. Sideshow are awesome,their statues are just as good as any other competitors. The one thing I really like is,they don't have ridiculous pricing for 1/4th or 1/3rd unlike others...

Absolutely not. Sideshow has consistently been putting out spectacular pieces for the last thirty years. I started collecting statues in 1991 and have statues from nearly every producer ever. I am an OG collector with over 400 pieces in my collection and sideshow comprises the majority of my collection, which says a lot. Of course, you're always gonna have a hater here and there, and most of the time, it's newbies or D riders. But haters mean you're doing something right.
Side shows like a great entry level gateway point I use the analogy of people collecting like NECA or something like that before jumping to Hot Toys. I would say in the statue game the same as with sideshow you dabble a little bit with a couple premium formats and see if you're into the hobby once you get them in your hand and if you are people usually jump off from there and don't look back at least for me anyway there's nothing that I could buy from sideshow that wouldn't look at a place with my predominantly prime one collection there's just nothing side shows been able to do that can compete really and nobody's stopping them from doing like a $4,000 statue and just throwing their balls to the wall and see what they can come up with you know a lot of people in here defending sides saying they're so fair with their prices and stuff but for people like me I would use that same point against them and say it's just holding them back but teach their own of course at the end of the day it's all just garbage that our kids are going to have to sell when we die
