Thanks for watching, yes it's a remarkable radio for it't size and shames the Tecsun and pretty much all DSP radios on SSB. DSP radios have a flawed design causing distortion and they cut off a lot of bass frequencies on SSB so the Belks is really good for ECSS on commercial shortwave stations to reduce QRM from noise sources or stronger close stations. The Belka also has a very good SYNC detector.
Looks good, been holding out on one of these or a malachite for a while not sure which to go for the malachite is easy to get hold of I think these are slightly more expensive?
Get the Malahit, the SDR is convenient, but get the original Russian version, there is a newer version coming shortly so it might be better to wait a while. The belka is great for ham use but the filters are sadly limited to 4 Khz so for listening to commercial AM stations the Malahit sounds much better. You can't beat the belka for it's tiny size. The malahit can also power an active antenna, I use it to power my Bonito MA305 and it reduces the amount of wires I need, the Bonito MA305 is a super receiving antenna, more for DX.
if you have an other Belka-DX model and bought the speaker kit it will would work fine on your new one, giving you access to the much larger battery.. I exchanged my new one with my old er DX model and it works fine.. 73
I think the battery lasts long enough, I should make more videos but I don't use the belka much because it really is too small and I hate so many multi function buttons, knobs etc but it is a good performing radio I just wish it was larger. I hate the way radios are getting smaller and smaller even base radios such as the Yaesu FTDX-10, it should be larger with more buttons but it has an amazing receiver with amazing audio quality. Even cars are removing knobs and buttons for much cheaper screens and it can be very irritating !
Imagine that you are a spy and you need to hide your radio from your enemies.... That's why some devices are very small, they are designed for spies, not you. 😉
Hello. In your opinion, which of the receivers is better for SSB - Belka or Sony ICF-2001D? I saw a Sony review on your channel, many people write that this is the best receiver for SSB. But there are also a lot of great reviews about Belka. I apologize for my English. I use a translator )
Hi and thanks for watching, the translator is working good 🙂 The Belka would be best for SSB, much more modern with better filters. The Sony ICF-2001D is wonderful to use and has probably the best SYNC detector in any portable radio, it has much better audio quality via the larger speaker. The filter in the Sony ICF-2001D for SSB is either too wide or too narrow, it is good but the belka is best here for SSB. The only issue I have with the Belka is that the filters on AM only go 4 Khz wide this is far too narrow for AM stations. Better again would be the Malahit DSP 3, the original russian model. Performance is great and AM audio quality too via headphones or external speaker + it has FM broadcast. The real issue with the Sony ICF-2001D is that they are very old now and my sony is dead and the LCD display is dead, you would have to get one that has been refurbished with all the capacitors replaced and even then you are not guaranteed that you won't have issues. I really like the Tecsun PL-680, with external antenna it's a great sounding radio on SSB but it does not have the filter options that the Belka has. It's a pure analogue design, which is why it sounds so good. Stay away from the DSP radios such as the Tecsun, XHDATA, the ATS-25 x1 and similar.
@@o00scorpion00o The filter settings in the Belka designate audio bandwidth (or "BW per sideband"), not IF bandwidth (like oldschool radios do). In other words, the Belka's "4kHz" setting on AM is equivalent to a 8kHz wide IF filter in a conventional radio, and measurements show that it's actually a tad wider so there is no difference in audio bandwidth between the Belka @4kHz and my IC-705 (which uses the oldschool IF passband specification) at full 10kHz BW. BTW, naming their virtual filters after their audio passband rather than the IF is what the Tecsun DSP radios and some of the SDR softwares confusingly do as well. On SSB, the audio bandwidth = IF bandwidth so there's no problem in that mode.
Yes the Belka has it's own speaker, at least this one does but it would not be very good for the video especially rear facing speaker but it does the job when out and about.
@@o00scorpion00o Such a big tecsun loses in sound quality to ssb of such a small Belka. It was possible to stuff several Belka into this huge h501 case and make an amazing sound, but for some reason tecsun didn't do it...
@@wavezone2566 it would have been great if tecsun stuck to analogue and no dsp for the 501, those big speakers would have sounded great on ssb with analogue design.
Very nice demonstration of SSB capabilities.
