This is such a validation of my own art process. Once I read a magazine, I use it up. I buy them for pleasure and it gives me pleasure when I sit down with a glass of iced tea to pick out the bits and bobs from the magazine that inspire me and to use in my own journals. I used to treat magazines as if they were gold, but I eventually lost interest in the older ones because designs change over time, and I become inspired by new and different things. I say, use it, enjoy it, and don’t look backwards! It took me a long time to get to that point though, but I compare my attitude towards things now as in the way I used to be, and the burden is so much lighter for me. I just say that I’m an artist, not an archivist. It’s ok to use things that I buy.
I love the way you explained that. I have the hardest time cutting pages from books. My friend who just gifted me with about 20 vintage 1950’s children’s first readers text books said, “girl, as a junk journal maker, you’re going to have to get over that and use them in your art!” I have attachment issues to things like that and I’m working through it 😊. Thank you for the way you phrased this ❤
@@miarenee6703 it’s a process, not a light switch. I would be lying if I said I am like this all the time. One thing that helps me with books like readers is their condition. The readers I have are mostly in poor condition so I don’t hesitate to use them. If I have a book that I acquired to use and I’ve not used anything yet I will close my eyes and flip a few pages and then blindly tear out a page all willy-nily. If the book doesn’t scream you are all good. Btw… the book never screams.
I think this is the best idea I've seen ....for me in a looong time. I LOVE magazines. Now, thanks to you Cathy, I have a way to use them. Love, Love this! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Wow, is correct your journal is absolutely beautiful and the pictures from willow & sage are stunning. I have 2 of those magazines but it will be hard to take it apart. Lovely file folder with the doily print & gold spatters. Thanks for sharing ❤
Hi, Cathy I have been making a lot of glue books lately. I have so many pretty magazine images ready and waiting. Love this project. Your choices were perfect. So lovely. Nancy
This is absolutely stunning!!! I cannot wait to do this with my favorite magazine images! Did you coffee dye the file folder or did you use sprays/ink? Thank you do much for your videos!❤
Finally! A creative use for the five-plus years of Birds & Blooms magazines I've accumulated! They have such gorgeous images that I've hated to recycle them. Now I can take my favourites and create art for my journals. Thank you for the inspiration, Cathy! You always come up with the neatest ideas ❤❤
Cathy: this video is 5 thumbs up! A super idea. It’s very easy, has style, design, color, and is very sophisticated. The pics are just great together. Just think of all the themes you could create. Adding the tabs was the perfect finishing touch to this journal. I think you should made another video just like this using another theme to reinforce this way of creating it. Now, this is thinking out of the box with hardly any expenditure involved. FABULOUS! Carol from California
No I've definitely never seen anyone use magazine pages like this myself. I love it! Can't wait to make several using my flower magazine pages and my Birds and Blooms magazines. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing 😊
Those will make beautiful pages! My father was a gardener, after he passed my brother and his wife found a treasure of vintage farmers almanac and Organic Gardener magazines, I was so happy about that find, then found out they took them to the landfill 😭 - I wish they would have at least been taken to a thrift store. The organic garden magazines had some cool pictures! I’m looking forward to seeing photos in her Facebook group of this idea 🌺 🌻
Love it Cathy. Today's Quote: "Choosing kindness is the ultimate expression of evolved consciousness. Grow by being kind." -Amy Leigh Mercree. Huge hugs. Namesta 🐞🐞🐞
Another thumbs up video, Cathy!! Love it - I am so happy when I can take something that most people would consider "junk" and turn it into something that is not only useful, but BEAUTIFUL! I love projects using magazines, old book pages and junk mail!! Woot!! Thank you so for your endless inspiration and encouragement! I appreciate you and am so glad I found/joined your channel~!
Ohhhhh, this project made me a little sad. As a former maker of bath/body products who subscribed to Willow and Sage, I could not imagine tearing this magazine apart. I gave all mine away to someone just getting started with her business. But it is a pretty project.
I love this idea, Cathy. Kind of an update on the old staggered envelope projects, but I like this better. I've already made my prototype and have plans for my upcoming journal. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
So interesting that the magazine you used was "Willow and Sage". I believe a paper pad used by Edith at Scrapbooking With Me to make a beautiful journal was also called "Willow and Sage. ❤❤❤
Beautiful! And i would really like to know why junk journalists dont like shiny paper, like magazines? Is it taboo to use shiny ones in the journals? Also, did you make the file folder, or did it come with a doily and gold splatter print? Thank you!
Hummm I think it’s just a style. I did make that image on the coffee dyed file folder. I do have a video that shows you how you can get a doily image on your papers too. The video is in my playlist. 🥰💐
A good idea is taking a picture of the set up you like before you have to take it apart to glue it. Same with the tabs. That way you can refer to the picture to remember how you had it set up.
Cathy, I love the coffee dyed folder idea for your base. How were you able to get the design on it? Printer or stencil? It’s just LOVELY 🥰 I have so much been enjoying your videos and ideas. And as a side note: you have the sweetest and most calming tone in your voice. I enjoy each video you put out for us-thank you for all you do! ❤
How pretty! I was thinking you could just glue your magazine picture to a piece of paper that was just slightly longer on one side so your hinge would just be already attached. But I'm lazy like that. Your little lacy looking tabs are really cute.

Love this idea!❤

So interesting that the magazine you used was "Willow and Sage". I believe a paper pad used by Edith at Scrapbooking With Me to make a beautiful journal was also called "Willow and Sage. ❤❤❤
I think it’s the paper in these will and sage magazines and of course the pictures. The paper is lovely.
Love it

Or where I can buy it if it is a boughten item?
My tear ruler is in my playlist. Easy to make! 💐🥰
great video I love your ideas could you show us finished journal with pages inside & how you sewed them in
I have multiple videos showing the process of sewing signatures into journals. This video was already pretty long so I opted not to show that part. 💐🥰
A good idea is taking a picture of the set up you like before you have to take it apart to glue it. Same with the tabs. That way you can refer to the picture to remember how you had it set up.
Right 🥰💐
dear Cathy..you create such a beautiful little Journal...love it......I was in holiday ☘☘☘

It was an image left by a doily when I coffees dyed it. I have a video about how you can achieve this method. That video is in my playlists. 💐🥰
Thanks Cathy! I will search for that one. I’m a fairly new subscriber, so I have a lot to catch up on with your videos, which I’m looking forward to
